This cohort of classmates were awesome- and our Sunflower facilitators were awesome- and my children loved every minute of getting to play in the Sunflower backyard playspace. This unique 8-week parenting class created community and definitely strengthened my relationship with my SO. I highly recommend this program for providing a safe space for parents to be able to empower each other, dig into their issues, and explore possibilities with like-minded souls. I wanted to be BFFs with every parent there, they were all so cool (and reminded me that I am not alone!). Just as my kids feel at home at Sunflower, so did I. How do they create such an exclusive, empowering space? intention, planning, respect, thoughtfulness - thank you for putting this together. Can't wait to see what you come up with next! Whatever it is, count us in! P.S. Also, thank you Sunflower for sharing Feather Berkowitz's incredible and important 'Parenting Safe Children' workshop - which we only took because you recommend it so highly - and it is absolutely an invaluable resource. The children are encouraged to have complete autonomy in choosing how they would like to explore the spaces. Angie was very attentive, always making sure the stations were refilled and mindful with all of the different play areas that she set up for the space. It's a very cute space and a great introduction to start thinking if perhaps you'd like to send your child to Coco Plum nature school for schooling someday . I gave it a four stars because it is smaller and slightly less time as some of the other facilities offered in the area which are priced at the same amount. And the mud kitchen was too high for the children to use no stepstool provided for them to reach. Tables for the crafts were also regular sized, which could work for older children, but smaller table sets with seats for children could potentially be better. However, it makes sense why they don't have these things as the school starts at kindergarten and the nature taught is a once a month occurrence. Overall, it was a fun morning and we will still return.

This is a stark contrast to his previous experience in a VPK program, which closely followed the traditional Florida public school system and left him dreading school. At Cocoplum, the kids enjoy 1-2 weekly trips, have daily al fresco lunches, and participate in interactive games and peer-to-peer learning for math, sciences, and reading. This unique approach has fostered my son's independence, thoughtfulness, and confidence. He's not only curious but also eager to share what he's learned. I also want to highlight the incredible leadership at the school, which is founded and run by two remarkable women. Melanie, the executive director, exudes a pleasant demeanor and brings a calming energy that the kids adore. Fernanda, the other founder, focuses on the curriculum, taking the time to genuinely listen to the children and connect with them on their level. Her approach encourages various forms of creative play and learning; she's like the Latina Miss. Frizzle! Being Mexican, Fernanda also incorporates a significant amount of Spanish in the classrooms, which is important to me since I speak Spanish at home. The teachers are wonderful and trained in the Conscious Discipline method. In teaching, they are observant and facilitate learning by tapping into each child's curiosity. An example from the other day: In Kindergarten, the kids were read a funny book. They were so excited by it that they took it upon themselves to rewrite the words and phrases from the book. When I was a kid, we were forced to write out sentences from books, but in my son's class, the kids WANT TO :) ! A few times a week, the teachers share anecdotes and photos on an app, which are linked to various learning objectives. While the school is play-based and creative, they do assess levels of competence across various subjects on a quarterly basis. This is something only the parents see and not the students, unlike traditional schools where kids are shown their report cards. It brings me great comfort knowing that my child is in incredibly capable hands and surrounded by kind and caring children and adults, eliminating the need for me to constantly hover over him. Truly, it's a fantastic school. Oh, and I almost forgot to mention the small class sizes, which is a huge plus!

I am sad to say that I let the $132/week fee sway my decision to send my 2yo son here. I had a…read moresuspicion that the school would be sub-par from the first visit. Not that the staff is mean or anything (the center director is incredibly nice and seems friendly), but the grounds are deplorable, the classrooms are lackluster, and I have, in two weeks seen my son's name on the daily status sheet only TWICE. There are also very few toys and NO books in the classroom. The teacher informed me that the children tear the books up . . . disturbing since we have about 50 books at my house, in his room, and not one is missing a page - he TREASURES his books!!! The normal "stations" in the classroom are just bare shelves. What is most alarming is my child's behavior since he started. He is an only child - and this is his 3rd fulltime daycare due to relocation. At his last daycare, I got constant reports that he was a great sharer, gave hugs all the time, and was kind and giving to all the children. They never reported aggression, fighting, biting, etc. But at this school, when I noticed on two occasions, two other boys fighting, punching and playing "guns", I became more alarmed that perhaps the environment is not as nurturing as it should be. My son knows his alphabet, numbers to 20 & colors in both English and Spanish, days of the week, shapes, and is an avid reader. His teachers at Youthland were AMAZED by his vocabulary. But in just two weeks, he has become downright impossible at home, has hit and pushed the other children and constantly plays POW-POW with everything he can get his hands on. And instead of his CONSTANT yapping, "Mommy, milk please. Mommy, potty please. Mommy, snack please" and "Thank you, mommy", I've been getting mostly grunting and pointing and meltdowns when I remind him to use his words. Out of character completely!!! I feel sad, and very sorry that I exposed my formerly well-behaved son to this madness. I won't skimp again, no matter what. Lesson learned.

They always failed to inform parents if other kids are sick. They would hide it and act as if your child is the only one sick when 5 other kids have already gotten sick and passed it to your child.
