They only thing that fails is the price, £15 skirts, £17 for dresses, it just seems a little steep for a second hand store. Also, can you haggle in a charity shop or is that rude? I went here with Larissa D and we questioned this as the skirt she wanted to buy was missing a button. Anyway, it seems to be that Brixton's hipsters have forgotten about this gem as it stocks some awesome 60s and 70s clothing, leather bags and quirky shirts. I just wish it was a little cheaper!

But when you go in there? It's all just the same. Hint, though: Hit the branches in posher areas of town, and they're filled with new/tagged suits and much nicer stuff. This is definitely noughty-Lambeth-style shab. Which is OK. I just want the store to live up to its claims.

You see, where I use to live in Dalston there was an Oxfam that was dedicated to music, books and films. Most vinyl was a pound an books started from 50p. I have never quite seen a collection like that in a charity shop until now. Not only does this shop have a mini fort made of fabulous vinyl but it ranges from classic David Bowie to modern trance. They know what they are talking about in this shop so yes things are a little bit more expensive with £4.99 for a Dylan album, but that actually makes me respect them more. Not only that though, at the back they have old working typewriters, antique travel chests, hand driven Singers and 1970s tea sets. It's like Narina, never ending!

This place has the best variety of goods that are reasonably priced; this is compared to the other charity stores in the area. They always have fantastic music playing and the volunteers are all so friendly and helpful (me included!). If you are in need trying to outfit your house or find an outfit for yourself on a budget (and who isn't on a budget in London?) this is the place to go. Also if you're just looking for a lazy weekend chat, swing by and come hang out or if you're interested, they are always looking for volunteers.

Take a guess as to which half is which. Yes, that's right, the store moves in mysterious way, undulating around you like the heat-altered view through the smoke of a campfire the minute you step through the door. Okay, so the store doesn't do that normally, but in might if you're on some serious hallucinogenics in which case I recommend you reassess some priorities. What does truly apply to this store is that "It's alright, it's alright, alright." The place is clean and bright and carrying a good selection of normal, modern clothes. It's doesn't seem to be a place you'd find vintage items or especially interesting stuff. The place smelled good too - like coconut - which made me want to put a bowl of fruit on my head and sashay around. This store is the basic London thrift shop; nothing mysterious about it.

Here at Saloon you'll find a huge selection of West London label Anami & Janine. These guys became pretty popular about two years ago when everyone just had to own a 'tea dress'. Saloon stocks some pretty decent vintage that is mid to high end prices too - a little odd for this area I will admit, but a lovely selection all the same. They also have hats, a great selection of jewelery and other items to browse through. If you like vintage inspired modern clothing this is a good place to come. Dresses start at £55 and unlike other 'tea dress' style, they are cut a little longer so you don't end up flashing your arse all day. One thing I was a little disappointed in, is that they were selling a few items that you can get directly from the website at full price when they were meant to be on sale. Maybe they just hadn't changed the price tag yet, who knows. There is a small changing room and the staff are super cute and helpful. Great if you are looking for a dress that is just that little bit special.
