I don't usually end up buying from charity shops. They're fun to browse through but a part of me usually thinks I'd get a better deal on eBay, especially in these credit crunched times. However, one fine Saturday morning, when I was feeling particularly pumped from a great work-out, I walked into this Oxfam in search of a book, and walked out with a summer outfit on top of the book. I know I told myself I was only going to spend on classic clothes (i.e. clothes I could wear to work) but, at under a tenner (in total!), a Puma zip-up top in oh-so-on-trend bold colours (tosses hair) and a pair of Paige denim shorts (of a good length too, not the skanky types being sold everywhere) were too good to pass up.
Also, the man running the shop was just so cheerful that it was impossible not to buy something. I'm serious! It's really nice to see such good service from volunteers, particularly when the weather's so good outside.
I read in Time Out that this shop's range of accessories, particularly bags, is meant to be quite good. Possibly everyone else has realised that as well, as there weren't all that many bags at all.
The women's range isn't too bad. The men's collection is about 25% its size in comparison. My only comment is that it would be nice if the clothes could be arranged by size as it would make the browsing process a little easier and a little more appealing. read more
