Where to start, well for those that don't know at motorway services you used to just get ripped off for your fuel and a stale sandwich!! But not anymore and certainly not at a service centre branded as 'Extra'. This service station has in it (take deep breath) M&S Simple Food, WHSmith, KFC, Mc Donald's, Starbucks, Greggs, as the usual suspects you get at most services. However they also have Nandos, Patisserie Valerie, El Mexican (never heard of them personally), Chozen Noodle, Carvery Express, Eat In, Dominos and (controversially) a JF Weatherspoons (yes that service station which actually made the news a while back for having a pub on site). There is also a Days Inn on site if you decide to sample the pubs menu as well as meeting rooms available to hire. The complex is bright and airy and has been built to reflect its modern status. It is a little bit away from the motorway (depending which way you are approaching it from) but once you are in you are well and truly spoilt for choice. What about the prices I hear you ask, similar to most service stations, still all seems over priced to me but what can you do? Well obviously not stop here but sometimes needs must!! So I would suggest that no matter how fussy you are if you cannot find something to eat or drink (if you are that way inclined) here then there is no hope!!!

I love this new shopping centre - when in the past I may have gone down to London to buy a new…read moreoutfit I am happy to get my boyfriend to drive me over to High Wycombe and park him in the cinema whilst I go lookng for that perfect dress! OK, so maybe he quite likes it here as well, there is a good range of men's clothing stores as well. The M&S and Debenams are really large and have most of the ranges you'll find in the London flagship stores. There is also your usual Topshop/H&M/Gap/New Look range. What I like most is that I can go buy some bits and bobs and then go to Yo Sushi and have a nice meal to build up my energy again for more shopping in this lovely, clean, modern shopping centre.

Since the pharmacy in town was already closed, my host volunteered the local Sainsbury as the stop on our way back from the pub. Sainsbury is the equivalent of a Safeway here in the states. They are a local chain serving the suburban families out away from the hustle and bustle of London. I found the allergy medicine that I required in addition to a fabulous type of toothpaste called Cordosyl (3 pounds each). Checkout was perfect since they had self-service instated. The parking lot here is large and clean and it is only a short jaunt away from the row of shops along the street. Thank you, Sainsburys!

The Sainsburys Beaconsfield store is quite small but is a good place to shop. It has a large free…read morecar park and is always kept clean and tidy. It has a good selection of food as well as a surprisingly large choice of homeware and clothing. There is a dry cleaners within the store as well as a Starbucks coffee shop. The Starbucks is a nice place to stop before or after doing your shopping and you always seem to be able to get a seat. It has a cash machine and is only a short walk from the shops of Beaconsfield new town.

I remember while growing up in the area that the Pavilions was THE shopping centre to hang around…read morein like a mallrat. But the problem is that not much has been done to it since the 80s. So when the Chimes came along, rather than fighting the much more modern looking competitor it just slumped into defeat and now is a bit of a sad shadow of its former self. It retains some of the old stores from its hey day, but for the most part, the bigger stores are in the Chimes. But I still like it, it was important to my childhood but the days of going to the back corner for Zodiac Toys to see what Thundercats they had in is long gone. These days of goths started hanging out the front I don't think they would bother to pull out the newly installed raises flower beds so that they'd have to move on as there wouldn't be anything to lean against. These days they'd just be welcomed.

A great shop for bargains. Wish it was a bit bigger though. Only 2 aisles. :-(read more
