Apple cider isn't usually something I'm gonna go running for but when I got that first smell, my legs just started going. Once I obtained the delicious morsal of sugar I headed down the walk way and was in constant awe of the handmade and local treasures. From hanging bug eating plants... yes plants that EAT bugs... to pottery, honey, spices, veggies, free range eggs (second best find of the day)... One of the best markets I've been too. The farmers market was bustling when I arrived at 10am. There are many vendors, inside and outside featuring clothing, organic foods of all types, tea, fresh flowers (some only 25 cents a stem!), honey, ferments, mushrooms, and so much more. I loaded up a basket with organic cabbage, green beans, kohlrabi, kale, squash, zucchini, broccolini...I was SHOCKED when I unloaded and the cashier added everything up- $13! If you buy organic-this is your spot. I am officially a regular now.

I also had a homemade brownie which had the perfect amount of sweetness and walnut ratio to it. I wanted to try the Possum Pie but just get the nerve up to ask what was in it. I mean it couldn't have been real possum could it? They do have limited outside tables. I was lucky enough to snag one but you may want to pick your food up here and then plan for a nice picnic on one of the parkways scenic pullouts.

He had fingerling potatoes & "ugly" pumpkins before any stores around here carried them. He works with Va. Tech, so every year he has something unique like the delicious corn I got, & a tomato hybrid. He grows the tasty little round cherry tomatoes I'm so fond of in varieties the stores don't have. His pepper assortment is awesome! His plant assortment is vast, & carries plants no one else has. We got our hardy banana trees from him. He is only farmer I know who grows my fav crowder peas. Over the yrs, I've also tried the black eyed ,& pink eyed peas. I got beautiful Octobers last yr also. Fresh & no sprouts!! What I like about his produce, is that it is always fresh or freshly picked. I bought a huge box tray of strawberries to make freezer jam & they were gorgeous. Same with his blueberries. I've never had a plant purchased from him that has died on me, or been so root bound, it cracked the container. He is now offering 100% pure Muscadine grape juice in small & large bottles. Several health benefits, look it up! It is absolutely delish, & has the jelly too. I am a big fan of his CBD oil, Virginia Pharm Health, started out from the VT Industrial Hemp Research Project.
