I visited the restaurant last Saturday while touring the Factory Expo Center. I ordered the Catfish dinner with the two sides. To be honest, I thought I did not have enough food as I only received one filet versus the two filets I am used to. It turned out the portions were more than enough, and I had plenty left for leftovers. Notice the size of the filet. The food was very tasty and seasoned right. The sweet tea was so good I ordered 3 glasses. The carrot cake concluded a wonderful evening of eating. The service is great and wholesome, and the restaurant was very clean, and I enjoyed the oldie but goodies Soul and R&B music playing in the restaurant. What a filling and delicious meal! Fried catfish slaw fries hush puppies and tea. A poster meal of the south ;-). The building looks tired but the food is certainly fresh. Get the chocolate cake to go as you're going to be too full to eat it there. read more

We traveled to Rocky Mount VA to see Jimmie Vaughan at the Harvester and found this gem. The best turnip greens and catfish I have ever eaten. The homemade carrot cake was also fantastic. Extremely kind and attentive staff. Immediately welcoming as you enter and a clean, attractive interior. We travel all over and I give Mama Sarah's my highest possible recommendation. read more

Our first thought was that this place was closed down until we finally seen the blinking open sign in window. We got cheeseburger and hot smoke dog combos along with a catfish dinner. All was good. Service was quick. Had a beer with my dinner. Did suggest to keep frosted glasses on hand. Very comfortable atmosphere. Will return if ever in the area again. read more

While traveling from Atlanta to Roanoke, me and my Jeep group stopped here to eat. As we walked through the door, they greet us like family. Servers were very attentive, and went through the menu with us. We ended up going with the catfish meal. Arguably top 3 in catfish that I've EVER eaten! After the 2nd bite of the macaroni and cheese...we all immediately asked for an additional container to go, lol. Again, top 3 in theeeee best mac&cheese I've EVER eaten!! The catfish and fries were cooked to perfection! We were told that these recipes have been passed down through generations. The comfortable atmosphere, food, service (even the chef came out 2x to check on us) and learning the history of Mama Sarah's cooking...this place is amazing! read more

What else can I say besides this feels like a Grandmas hug! The food is amazing! Make sure you try the catfish! Better yet, get two pieces! The portions are HUGE and I promise you won't leave hungry. I went to this restaurant with my family on a family reunion. We had a large group with some rowdy kids. This restaurant had amazing service and interacted great with the kids giving them crayons and paper. The food was also amazing. The BEST fried catfish we've ever had. We also couldn't choose a dessert so we had almost every one and passed them around which was the best idea because they were all delicious. Would recommend this to anyone, even to drive to get to this place. If I lived anywhere close, this would be a regular place for me. read more

Myself and two friends went to Mama Sarah's this past Sunday based on the experience we saw on "Hometown Eats" with Logan Sherrill on WDBJ7. It was warm, cozy, and inviting layout of the restaurant. The staff were welcoming, friendly, and knowledgeable of the menu. The restaurant itself had a good amount of seating, well lit, and cozy for a nice Sunday lunch after church. The menu was simple one page (which is always nice) chalked full of wonderful appetizers, diverse main dishes, and desserts. For example: hamburger steak, hot dogs, hamburger/cheeseburger, and catfish. The sides were delicious vegetables, light pasta, and/or fries. The staff was welcoming, friendly, and got out food to us in a very reasonable time frame and checked up on us twice. So glad locals are investing their time and talent in a great place like "Mama Sarah's. Great to see more local owned restaurants in Rocky Mount !! Definately going back very soon 1! read more
