I've heard about these type of community gardens in places like New York city and always thought they were a great idea and wondered how it worked. Then after moving to Hollywood and being on our district neighborhood council, one of the board members actually founded this particular community garden and we happened to have our Candidate Meet & Greet for the HSDNC and I attended since I'm running for a board seat in the upcoming election. It's a great area where people can rent a plot for $10 a month and grow their choice of organic fruits and vegetables. They also have community trees like lemons, pomegranates, and such where the members could grab whatever they needed. As we were meeting, one of the gardeners who joined us had two artichokes in her hands. I bet it tastes awesome! My step-father had been a strawberry farmer in Ventura County and he still grows all kinds of vegetables and fruits in his backyard, so I've tasted first-hand the difference in eating freshly grown and picked vegetables and fruits. Such a noticeable difference! They offer instruction on how to grow different types of vegetables and fruits and how best to tend your crops. I've always wanted to learn to grow my own produce so hopefully, I'll be able to get in although I heard there is a waiting list but we'll see if my colleague can pull some strings for me ; )

Not squeaky clean, but a public restroom in LA. It's not Santa Clarita so don't expect much as far as newness and cleanliness. I would definitely come back if ever I am in the area and wanted to take a walk. It's near the freeway so it's not going to be peaceful, but if you're looking to get some steps in or place to lay on the grass and maybe read a book, this is a nice place. There is a solar-themed playground which is under repair right now. You'll find a large parking lot and parking along the perimeter. Not sure how busy it gets during the weekend or warmer weather. I would definitely return and like that it's not exposed to a major street.

For years I've been coming to my beloved Brand Park, but have…read morenever been able to make it on a day this area was open so it was a treat for sure esp on the gloomy day that needed a little sparkle. The lawns are manicured beautifully and the tea house, koi pond, gazebo, and Dr's house are all beautiful to see. I can't wait to experience an authentic tea ceremony there (call to reserve) and take a tour on one of their Sundays. Brand Park and all that it has to offer is truly a TREASURE in Southern California and should not be missed. (I'm even typing this review from Brand Park right now lol What can I say? FormLA was taking care of my front yard since January 2018. I fired them recently for flagrantly…read moreignoring my very specific, detailed instructions on what _not_ to cut back in my yard. Over the past 18 months, though, I had several problems with them. On their first visit, they removed dormant milkweed plants. I had specifically pointed out that these plants were dormant, not dead (although, being "native plant experts", you'd think they wouldn't even need to be told). They replaced the plants, but the replacements still haven't gotten as big as one of the ones they had removed. I asked them to focus on weeding the parkway areas. Being on a corner lot means there's a lot of parkway, and while I do have lippia planted there, the weeds were also quite present. Months went by and it didn't seem like they were doing anything about the weeds. When I finally asked one of the workers to focus on that, he complained, "That's going to be a lot of work!" Um, that's literally what you're being paid to do (and paid nicely -- $375/month for 18 months is almost $7000!). The workers would cut back my plants far too much, even though I really like the jungle look in my yard (and said so from the beginning). They also didn't pay attention to the seasons, so some things that should've been cut back when dormant weren't cut; they just like sculpting and manicuring the plants, as far as I can tell. The last straw for me was when I specifically told them not to cut my artichoke plants (not native, but still had edible parts growing on it) and my coyote brush (overhanging a path that isn't used much, and probably could be tied back instead), and only lightly trim the black sage. What they did instead was a complete massacre of my plants, and now that we're entering the slow growth season, I see my horrendously bald front yard every day and regret not firing them sooner. If you don't care much about your plants, or your money, you found the right landscaping company!

Without further ado let's begin the adventure…read more Deukmejian Wilderness Park is a public park which occupies a rugged 709-acre site in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mts at the northernmost extremity of the City of Glendale. There are 10 trails throughout the park which varies in length, elevation and level of difficulty. They are as follows: Le Mesnager loop, Rim of the Valley, Dunsmore Canyon, Vineyard, Mummy Rock, Crescenta View, Cooks Canyon, Haines Canyon, Mt Lukens and Pickens Spur. Moreover, trails on the site provide spectacular views of the Crescenta Valley and the Los Angeles basin. I arrived early morning and decided to do the easy Dunsmore Canyon (elev gain 600 ft) is a mile long with extremely rocky trail; this canyon intersects with Crescenta View, Le Mesnager Loop, Mummy Rock and Vinyard trails. The view was amazing! Dogs are allowed as long as they're on a leash. Public bathroom is available. Parking lot is free albeit limited. Overall, it's a great park to go on a hiking adventure. I highly recommend you visit.
