(Embarked 12/14/24 SA @ 2:00pm, Disembarked 12/26/24 TH @ 7:00am, and once many years ago): Passengers wanting to travel overseas by boat or ships gather at this cruise terminal!
Located in the heart of Sydney's iconic harbour, directly across from the Opera House and beside the Sydney Harbour Bridge, the Overseas Passenger Terminal (OPT) is New South Wales' original international cruise terminal. I was last here at the end of 2012 at the conclusion of my first cruise in Australia and my first time in Australia. Needless to say, I was ecstatic to be back again in this beautiful country and on another cruise. Was my return as a passenger for more overseas traveling as effortless as before at this cruise terminal!?
PURCHASE
Princess Cruises - 12-day Southern Australia Explorer Cruise ($977.03USD/pp): As Crown Princess https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&select=eJshZszr0nkv3M61ndtx5Q was docked alongside the pier, we didn't buy this cruise from the terminal; rather, this was directly through the cruise line company. However, this was the reason for being here in the first place. Once aboard the ship and you went up on deck, you had a wonderful cityview https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&select=-12kv8dhWYPR3UFcJBa-XA to gaze at. Otherwise, I didn't see anything at all that you were able to purchase here.
SERVICE
The Princess Cruises staff had their stuff together and easily had the ever-growing passenger line moving as quickly as they could (there were a ton of older and elderly passengers as you would imagine, so they could only move so fast). In addition, the port authorities and staff were equally adept. Everyone was cheerful, friendly, and extremely helpful. Lastly, all of the necessary signage was posted and easy to read and understand - well done from top to bottom!
PARKING (Varied; N/A this instance)
There weren't any onsite parking facilities on cruise ship days, nor were there waiting bays for passenger pick-ups. Paid street and private parking facilities were available in the area, as well as public transport. We simply took a rideshare (Uber) from our hotel. The passenger drop-off area was located outside the cruise terminal on the lower roadway at Circular Quay West. Access the lower roadway via George Street (cross street: Argyle Street). This entrance is available for private pick-ups and drop-offs throughout the day.
ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE
A modern and fairly typical cruise terminal with multiple levels, a spacious interior https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&select=uNl0b_DS99WaX1o1JNjS9g to accommodate the thongs of cruise passengers as they queued about. Other than the Christmas holiday decorations, the place was pretty sterile, clean, and free of any needless advertising. Plenty of natural lighting entered through the many large windows while many recessed electric ceiling lights filled in the rest. There were several informative TV monitors throughout while there wasn't any background music. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&select=76CJou0XEvk6zfJ7N_EbJw
ATTIRE
Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops.
OVERALL
Overseas Passenger Terminal was a straightforward cruise terminal in an awesome location with so much activity around, and I hoped to return again for another cruise! Heck, even if you weren't going on a cruise, there was still plenty to do and see in the surrounding area of the Sydney Harbour https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&select=704sk0h9n3gY0jtWnk4Thw where the terminal was located, such as the iconic Sydney Opera House https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&select=D984Y4MA4RElBF6nB_AQ0A off in the distance, and the landmark Sydney Harbour Bridge https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&select=yjrNl-Y6gBAaDD3uqh6XTw which tours were given to walk atop it. The boarding/unboarding process was seamless while the entire staff were professional. I found complete value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $0.00AUD / $0.00USD BEFORE any discounts/tip). And, I didn't see a need for acceptance of my credit card of choice... AMEX! 5.0 STARS read more
