Our ship was late to port & our embarkation was delayed. Info wasn't on the website, it was a confusing day. We killed time at the Rocks enjoying Barbie or BBQ and finding a few last minute gifts. We got back to the ship at 3:30. There were lines outside and lines inside as well. They had one scanning machine down to two were being used for all of the passengers and crew. We waited about :90 to get checked into the ship.
Definitely the most picturesque cruise terminal we've been to, with deep enough waters to have a 225,282 gross tonnage ship dock right next to shore, allowing travelers to come using different modes of transportation. It had to onboard over 5,000 passengers and it pretty well, allowing us to enter the boat from start to finish in less than 1 hour. Because our plane arrived so much earlier than our scheduled boarding time, we got to the terminal before 11. We expected a long wait putzing around the area, but instead heard an announcement that they were allowing open boarding for 30 minutes before main boarding occurred. So we hurried to get in line, and got through a typical process (initial passport and ETA check, official check-in, security with x-ray and metal detectors, immigration, and then final boarding. Each officer/worker throughout the process was firm but helpful, and got you in the mood of obeying orders just like at the airport. The gang-plank to get on the boat wasn't too long or windy like it can be at other ports, and with the gangway on deck 2, it was a relatively quick entrance. Once we got on the ship, I marveled at the amazing view of the Sydney Opera House that we had. It was a nice way to spend time gazing until the ship left in the late afternoon. read more

Located in the heart of Sydney's iconic harbour, directly across from the Opera House and beside the Sydney Harbour Bridge, the Overseas Passenger Terminal (OPT) is New South Wales' original international cruise terminal. I was last here at the end of 2012 at the conclusion of my first cruise in Australia and my first time in Australia. Needless to say, I was ecstatic to be back again in this beautiful country and on another cruise. Was my return as a passenger for more overseas traveling as effortless as before at this cruise terminal!? However, this was the reason for being here in the first place. Otherwise, I didn't see anything at all that you were able to purchase here. SERVICE The Princess Cruises staff had their stuff together and easily had the ever-growing passenger line moving as quickly as they could (there were a ton of older and elderly passengers as you would imagine, so they could only move so fast). In addition, the port authorities and staff were equally adept. Everyone was cheerful, friendly, and extremely helpful. Lastly, all of the necessary signage was posted and easy to read and understand - well done from top to bottom! PARKING (Varied; N/A this instance) There weren't any onsite parking facilities on cruise ship days, nor were there waiting bays for passenger pick-ups. Paid street and private parking facilities were available in the area, as well as public transport. We simply took a rideshare (Uber) from our hotel. The passenger drop-off area was located outside the cruise terminal on the lower roadway at Circular Quay West. Access the lower roadway via George Street (cross street: Argyle Street). This entrance is available for private pick-ups and drop-offs throughout the day. Other than the Christmas holiday decorations, the place was pretty sterile, clean, and free of any needless advertising. Plenty of natural lighting entered through the many large windows while many recessed electric ceiling lights filled in the rest. OVERALL Overseas Passenger Terminal was a straightforward cruise terminal in an awesome location with so much activity around, and I hoped to return again for another cruise! The boarding/unboarding process was seamless while the entire staff were professional. I found complete value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $0.00AUD / $0.00USD BEFORE any discounts/tip). The Overseas Passenger Terminal (OPT), also known officially as the Sydney Cove Passenger Terminal. Quality/Quantity - 10/21/23 - Organized departure and disembarkation from the cruise ship. 11/2/23 - Unorganized embarkation. Need to have clear signs for luggage tags, luggage drop off and boarding. The good news is that I think we have met a lifelong friend while in the long line. :) Atmosphere - 2 story port. Convenient to everything! Walkable to many of the Australian Tourist attractions. Close to many amenities. Huge clean port. Not so clean external toilets, if possible use the interior ones. Service - See above. Price - N/A. You know those cruise ships that either make you marvel in wonder at mankind's ingenuity or shudder with aesthetic horror when they're dominating our beautiful harbour skyline? Yeah this where they dock. I once went on a one-night famil on a giant cruise liner that went out of Sydney and came back the next day, on the day of boarding it's absolute chaos down there at the Quay, huge lines of passengers, signs warning about Norovirus (the world's most common disease!), and ship stewards and customs officers all doing their best to herd the great unwashed all desperate to be aboard so they can start getting pissed. read more
