I'd contacted for a Merida road bike, which turned out to be exactly as described. They fitted me with a water bottle and lock, and off I was. The best part is that you can return the bike any time of day or night. They give you the combination to the front door, and you can leave the bike inside in a secure locked area, and drop off the keys. A boon for people with morning flights who do not want to stop cycling at 6pm the previous day. Also, English was no problem. The people who run it are not touristy and talkative, but work gets done with no fuss.

There is also an option for tourists, which is a 3 day pass for 165kr or 18 euro. You must use the bike in 3 hour slots, which would be a burden If its wasn't so easy to just switch out the bike at there many stations all across the city. They don't come with any lock for parking it while you pop into a shop but this is something you can easy get yourself in many places around the city. You can rent the bikes between the hours of 6am and 10pm. This will probably be my main mode of transport here :) especially now that the summer is coming :)

I really wanted to spend a day out in the Archipelago to experience more than just what Stockholm's beautiful touristed areas have to offer. The Stockholm Archipelago is the largest archipelago in Sweden, and the second-largest archipelago in the Baltic Sea. The Stockholm Archipelago has been found to have slightly over 24,000 islands, islets, and skerries and covers approximately 1,700 km² (of which approximately 530 km² is land). As far as I was concerned, we just had to spend a day exploring it while we were in Sweden. I found Stockholm Adventures after another tour company cancelled our tour a couple of days before the tour we had booked with them. Stockholm Adventures made it easy to book another tour, so we didn't have to miss the Archipelago or rework our itinerary for the trip! The sailing tour was 8 hours long, and our guides provided a wonderful Smörgåsbord lunch and Fika in the afternoon. Our guide gave us a bit of a sailing lesson (he left this up to us, whether we wanted to learn about sailing or whether we just wanted to enjoy the day), which was great (might have piqued my interest to learn more about sailing now that I'm home). Our guides were very friendly and informative; we learned so much about the way that locals view life in Stockholm, the Archipelago, and Sweden. We also were able to visit an island that serves as our guide's boat club's Archipelago home, since it wasn't a weekend. Our tour ended up just being the two of us, so the tour felt very personalized to our interests. The information on the website and that we received by email before the tour was very helpful and informative (so we knew what to bring and where to meet once we arrived in Vaxholm). The day was a pleasure from start to finish, and I'm so glad we found this tour. It really added to our trip to Sweden. I wouldn't hesitate to use the company again if we are able to return to Sweden.

The machines are in great condition and the customer service was equally amazing. Peter had great communication from the very start and answered all of my questions quickly. The GPS Tours are amazing. Peter hand picked the routes himself. I did all of the routes in two days and many other side roads in the countryside. I would recommend exploring Blockhusudden near the water. You will accomplish twice as much by having a scooter. Be sure to know where you can park. Stockholm has designated parking areas for scooters and motorcycles. I had a passenger the entire time and we had a blast.

Time for a coffee first then, so after consulting the Lonely Planet, I steered my way to Bianchi Cafe & Cycles, which seemed appropriate. It's in Norrmalm, about five minutes wandering from the main hub and very easily found. It wasn't quite the setting for an al fresco cappuccino, with a busy road and only a couple of tables on the pavement, so I nipped inside to order a coffee and a chocolate croissant. The coffee was expertly produced with the requisite froth design, which went down a treat with the croissant. The place was quiet (it was just before 8am), so it was a pleasant stop, while I prepared for a morning's jaunt around Djurgarden. The coffee and croissant cost 52Kr or about £4. Pretty acceptable.

When riding the bikes, the seat moves and needs continual adjustment. Although not the bike's fault, the trail is crowded with joggers, strollers, lovers, and walking groups making navigation tricky. Finding Sjöcaféet is easy. While crossing the bridge, you can see paddle boats and kayaks for rent. Head over to that area and you will see a bank of bikes waiting to be rented. Although the building says Royal Djurgården Visitor Center, it's Sjöcaféet. After telling the friendly gal that I'm interested in renting a bike, she tells me it's $8/hour and there are various free maps and other info located at the desk. After paying, you receive a key to unlock the bike for riding and locking it when not riding. To store your stuff, all the bikes have front baskets. Because the trail is so crowded, you will not be able to enjoy the scenery, but rather making sure you don't run into someone.
