Awesome place. I needed a haircut last minute and they stepped up with a quality cut.

This was our second visit, we came 30 miles because we were so impressed with David the first time…read more I have a teen and a toddler, and he was amazing with both, but let's be real: it's the little one that is the challenge. My kid is NOT a fan of haircuts, but David took to it like a champ. This time was better, after my kid ran out of tears and snot, we convinced him it 'wasn't that bad' to have a haircut. David is sooooo patient and understanding. He's a good ol' boy playing rock music and loving his neighbors. Holy cow it's like a giant family, all of the customers he has. He knows everyone by name, they all love him. Here's what I loved as a mom: this is a family friendly place. You won't find posters of half naked women anywhere, just good ol Americana and a cat or dog depending on the day. He has nice hot towels when you're done. It's a hole in the wall place, not anything fancy at all. No appointments, but he'll put your name on 'the list' and you can show up when you need to. We love this place.

Mike was at Tom's for years, then he bought that business, then he moved to a new location. Anyway, I go the best haircut in years after trying many in the Spokane and Spokane Valley area. Reasonable prices and good service. Walk-in instead of appointment only which is great. Men give Mike a try and you will not be sorry. The gals there also give a very good cut.

TL;DR: 45-minute haircut for $20. Staffed by actual barbers and not cosmetology grads. Best deal in…read moretown. I've received haircuts from a lot of different places around Spokane: The Man Shop, Alexander York, Weldon, Strata Salon, and others (including Great Clips). I always try to get my haircut in Spokane because it's a fraction of the cost of going in San Francisco. I usually try to find some balance between price and quality depending on my priority at the time. My biggest complaint is that doubling or tripling the price of my haircut only offers marginal improvements and the haircut itself rarely lasts more than 20 minutes. So fast forward and I'm in Spokane again. A quick Yelp search brings me to The Yard and I decide to check it out. I'm not sure why Spokane isn't keen on quality male cuts but The Yard makes the cut (*chuckles to self*). I've previously paid upwards of $40 for haircuts in Spokane and $70 in San Francisco but it's The Yard that gives me what I want: enough attention to make sure nothing's missed and a perfect fade to top. Simple in theory but surprisingly difficult to find in execution. I didn't ask about price beforehand and halfway through I resigned to paying more than intended... until the barber said it's only $20. Anyway, definitely check them out. Coming from San Francisco, I enjoy the hipster sign, but don't worry about anything being pretentious (or even remotely hipster) once you get there except for the quality of the cut (hipsters like good haircuts). You get that hipster quality for the price and friendliness expected from Hillyard. Best of all worlds and recommended by 11 out of 10 people everywhere.

This is the best place in Spokane for a haircut. Kate is by far one of the best hair cutters I…read morehave ever found in any city I have lived in. Not only does she do a great job cutting your hair, but explains things specific to your type of hair and the style you are wanting. I have had so many "trendy" Spokane places butcher my hair by not listening or just not knowing what they are doing. Save yourself the trouble, head over to Kate's Barbershop. She's open during weekdays, no weekends - with cutting skills like her's, she can afford to take the weekend off. Its a little red building, you might accidentally drive by it the first time, just pay attention - parking in the back. This is one of those out of the way gems that you find once in a blue moon. .... My friend Dave sported a great haircut, so I asked him where he went, that's how I found out about Kate's.

Kate is the most awesome person I have ever had the pleasure of meeting at a barber shop. She makes…read moreyou feel like you've known her for a life time. Her hair cuts are global meaning she just about knows how to cut any hair style from what I have seen. She actually knows how to use a pair of scissors as where I have gone to a few other places where the person who was cutting my hair only knew how to use sheers. Now I like a good 70's style hair cut, (feathered and layered) and after they were done butchering me with the ole electric sheers I had to wait 8 months for my hair to grow out again. Thankfully I decided to try Kates which is just blocks from my home and I've known about it for a long time. Anyway, Kate knows her shit and is well worth a try and nobody in this town has more reasonable rates than her.
