I've been going to Passion Hair Studio since I was in high school. My stylist Chanty does ok…read morehaircuts, nothing special. Just your generic fades. At the time I loved them. Later on I would venture out to getting hair coloring services there. Mind you, I've been dying my hair since I was 12 so I know a thing or two when it comes to lifting hair. Just to make things short, Chanty will get you to the results you want, whether or not your hair is in tact at the end. My total would roughly come out to 140-160 for the coloring service and a haircut, which isn't bad compared to other salons (this will later bite me in the ass later on). The first two sessions she did a full bleach out and afterwards did a shadow root coloring technique, which she insisted on doing every time even though I would ask for something more on the balayage spectrum. Nevertheless, I still trusted her since she was after all the professional. She would put a lavender color from the mid to the ends of my hair so after a couple washes it would leave me with a silver/grey color i asked for. Even though I left the salon with a fresh color, the condition of my hair was so damaged and brittle. I had to do a lot of restoring to bring my hair back to a somewhat normal stage, which resulted in me spending more money on products. Regardless, I loved the results after tweaking the color myself and styling it. You can even see my pictures on their instagram, facebook, and yelp page (which they just took without asking but okay whatever I still look good lol).
What made me stop going to PHS was the third session I had with Chanty to get my roots touched up. She proceeded to apply the bleach normally, but avoided my sides where I get my haircut. I thought to myself "Oh she'll probably apply it after my fade it's fine." lol no, she did the fade and processed to mix the color she was doing to apply after rinsing out the bleach, which means she wouldn't be bleaching my sides. I then told her why isn't she bleaching my sides and she replies she didn't know i wanted it all over she thought i wanted just the top done, which I still don't understand because I came in asking for my usual which was a full bleach out and i've never came in just for the top of my hair to be done. Fast forward, she quickly mixes together some bleach and slaps it on my sides, KEEP IN MIND, the bleach that's on the top of my head is STILL ON throughout this whole process and has been processing for about a good 2 hours already. So waiting for my sides to lift added even more time on the processing time on the top of my hair. Lord when I tell you my scalp was on FIREEEEE...I had to call her over and say yeah my scalp is burning hahahah for her to rinse it out lol. So she was busy and had another stylist that was available rinse out the bleach AND OMFG SHE WAS SO FUCKIIINGGG ROUGH ON MY ALREADY SENSITIVE SCALP, WHEN I TELL YOU WHEN SHE RINGED MY HAIR OUT AS IF IT WAS A FUCKING WET TOWEL, I felt like she was ripping out hair right out my scalp. I wish I was exaggerating. Chanty was applying the color afterwards and I was sitting in my chair completely over it, just wanting to get it done and get outta there. She rinses it out the color and sits me back in the chair. At that moment, there were multiple walk-in customers coming in for services n such, so she proceeds to ask me if it's okay if I blow dry my own hair so she can cut another guys' hair. UHHH, HUH?????? Mind you, I was a client with an appointment scheduled ahead of time, but she would rather work on customers just walking in...child anyways...I was so over it so I grabbed the blow dryer dried it as fast as I can, looking like a complete idiot doing it myself. FYI, my hair felt like a halloween costume wig, not cute. It was very over processed and DRY.
Afterwards I paid and left as fast as I can, didn't even get to style my hair. I was over it. As a result of that session, I had chemical burns ALL. OVER. MY. SCALP. I kid you not. My hair was falling out and breaking off from just running my hands through my hair. That last session was in August 2019 and it's May 2020. My scalp has gotten better but still in poor condition and I have a tiny bald spot but luckily it can't be seen. My hair is falling out less as a result of my efforts to restore it back to life.
Happy to say I found a stylist and new salon that is actually professional and cares about the state of my hair lol.
***TL;DR***
- You get what you pay for
- A more affordable salon, but not worth it in the long run
- Doesn't take in consideration the before stage of your hair prior to service.
- You will leave LOOKING great, but your hair won't be FEELING great.
Take this with a grain of salt,
Good luck! :)
