I understand having return policies but theirs are unreasonable and the people in customer service answering phones would be better suited packing pickles in pickle jars without interactions with people. I found this company thinking it was a steal for what I was looking for only to realize that it was hard finding out what their products were really made from which should have been my first clue. I used to love Outback Trading Company. As a cattle rancher and outdoor enthusiast, I would like to think of myself as their target audience. I have bought hats, vests, and jackets from them that are beautiful and long-lasting. Unfortunately, I had the experience of engaging with customer service for the first time and what a let down that was. For Christmas, I received a trapper hat that was ordered in November from family. I used to own a river guide hat from Outback that I wore daily, but sadly the wind knocked it off my head and it was gone. I contacted Outback asking them if I could exchange my trapper hat for a river guide one (they are the same price online) and let them know I have been a loyal customer. Note, they have a 30 day return/exchange policy which I find really hard to swallow especially around the holidays as people travel and are busy. I did not receive the unworn, new with tags hat within the 30 day window. The response I received from the retail manager was surprisingly cold. Not once did she thank me for being a long time customer or voice her understanding for my frustration or confusion over their policy. There was zero empathy during the interaction. My husband and I actually considered at one point we might have been receiving AI emails. She explained to me that as a small business Outback Trading Company cannot afford to ship exchanges more than once because people abuse the system. First, I never exchanged or returned the hat. Second, I offered to pay for the shipping and still received a no. I cannot stand when companies punish loyal customers for people who abuse the system. Especially if you are a small business, does it not make more sense to retain loyal customers than to lose them over $8 of shipping which they even offered to pay? I called two days later to try once more, because truly I love Outback Trading Company's products and wanted to give them another chance. By the way, I never received a response from the retail manager to the last email I sent. The retail manager answered my call and was once again not empathetic. She informed me she asked the exchange department for an exception but they said no. She also let me know I could email Outback Trading Co voicing my concern but they would likely not respond. So let me get this straight, you are a small business, presumably trying to grow and compete against larger companies, and you do not have the capacity to interact with customers? This has been the worst customer service experience ever. I am genuinely disheartened over Outback's lack of effort to make things right. I will not support a company who does not stand by their customers. Buyers beware. read more

I have owned several leather cowboy hats. My best one someone ripped off. Everytime I watch social media here is OTC ads. Nice couple hiking in the woods beautiful leather products and hats. So I gave them a try. Ordered a leather cowboy hat 1377 iron bark and when it arrived it hat reinforced cardboard within the brim of the hat. Never seen that before, sio I thought it was to hold the shape of the hat during shipping. In addition there where mulitplie spots all over the had where the tanning stain miss covering the leather. I repeatedly treated the hat with top of the line leather products. Out here in California it's been rainning alot. The treatment only last a week or so, then I have to treat it again. Also the hat does not hold it's shap without the cardboard within it; however, I threw it away. I called OTC customer line and they deny any cardboard was placed inside the hat. I Emailed & called again to talk to a supervisor and they told me to get another piece of cardboad and reinsert it. WTH ! $90.00 hat that won't keep it;s shape! WHY because OTC skips on the the thicknest of the leather that forms the top. I would go on Amanzon and pick out another company if you are thinking about buying from OTC, or better stop in some Western Store, or Leather Store and check the leather Hat yourself for quality and craftsmanship. OTC customer servive is a JOKE. Once they sell a product, even if you return for another one the workmanship is sub-standard, massed produce with the thinest leather they can get away. I received a jacket. loved the jacket. then I washed the jacket according to the care instructions and the zipper teeth and zipper fell off. I contacted Outback Trading Company and they said no worries we will send you a replacement. they sent the wrong size replacement. at this point I was sick of dealing with them and just wrote an email to let them know of their error and I wouldn't be sending anything back I was just done with the company. they replied stating I have no choice but to send it back or I will be charged for a second jacket. this company is horrible to deal with. read more

I ordered a winter Jacket and it was to small. They said I could exchange for a larger size. They day it came it was just ill fitted on me. I'm short and it was a very bulky coat and the collar kept hitting me chin and I was very uncomfortable. I emailed them the day I received it and told them I would like to return it explained why. They said I couldn't do it because I already exchanged one... I was flabbergasted. They told me there was a notice that they don't accept refunds after a coat has been exchanged. I obviously did not see that. If that was the case I would have asked for the refund on the first coat. After going back in forth she said her Manager would only exchange it for the SAME COAT, DIFFERENT COLOR OR SIZE....Does that even make sense. I wrote to corporate and I never received a response. I have been a customer and fan of this company for years. However, recently I ordered two dog coats online the large fit fine, but the extra small was too small so I sized up and exchanged it for a size small which wound up being way too big, they have a ridiculous policy that if you order online, you were only allowed to exchange an item once and you will receive no refund. So I am now stuck with an $80 dog coat and will have to go through a credit card complaint with my bank to obtain a refund. I mean who does this? I used to love Outback products. I have vests, jackets, coats, hats, chaps... they were my go-to for horseback riding, barn chores, and even casual outerwear. I got a jacket for Christmas that I was really looking forward to. I'd tried one on in the store, and needed just a bit more room in the shoulders, so ordered the next size up on line. It is perfect in all but one way - the arms are so narrow that the sleeves, which would have been long enough were it not for the width, ride up and leave my forearms and wrists bare. I expected that I'd contact the company and they'd make it right, but no. I'm told that this is the way they're supposed to be! They seriously told me that it was normal for the bigger sized jacket I ordered to have narrower arms! I'm not happy when customer service people blow smoke up my skirt, and I'm not happy now. Plus, they want me to pay for a shipping label! If this were my company, I'd be trying to make things right with a long time, loyal customer. Nope! Outback is out to lose my business. Wow! What a disappointing experience. I sure wish I read the reviews before getting involved with this company who clearly couldn't care less about their customers. I bought my 6'8" husband a XXL insulated vest from this company. It was way too big. He has never worn an XL in anything, but I was willing to pay the restocking fee for the XXL and then try the XL as two separate sales, but.... As a first order, this XXL vest had a $14.00 discount. I could exchange it but the XL would be a FINAL SALE. Considering their sizing is off that seemed like a bit of a risk at $125.99 So instead of exchanging and risking a final sale, I decided to just return the first one, pay the $8.00 and order another one. Here's the catch. OUtback trading would now not honor the same $14.00 discount since they already had my email. Even though my 1st order was going back because their sizing is off, they would not consider the 2nd order as eligible for the $14.00 discount. It's been only 7 days since I placed the first order. The only viable option was to buy the second one for $14.00 more and pay the stocking fee of $8.00 for the return of the first one. A total of $$22.00 more for the same thing. I wanted to talk to someone. They took my phone number but would only email me back with the same story. In the end, there is no good option to do business them. I am returning the first one, the XXL and paying the restocking fee and getting zippo for it. None of this would have been an issue if their sizing was accurate to begin with. No wonder Jeff Besos is floating around on a 1/2 Billion dollar yacht. He knows how to do business!! Will never buy from this Co. again. I recently ordered a fleece jacket from Outback in 3X. When I received it and tried it on it fit perfectly around the chest, shoulders and upper body, but...the sleeves! Good grief! The sleeves hung down to below my knuckles and the cuffs were more suitable for boot cut jeans. I normally wear a 37" length shirt sleeve, so their sleeve length had to be 40/41 inches. A ridiculous length and obvious screw up. The gripe I have is that they still insisted on charging their $8.00 return fee! This isn't my first experience with Outback sizing and on that one I exchanged for a larger size which was only marginally more acceptable, which is why I didn't choose to exchange this jacket. I ordered the Sidekick wool hat from Outback Trading Company in size M. It was on sale at a deep discount. That should have alerted me there was something wrong with it. I have several hats in size Medium (including a different one from Outback) and they fit just fine. This "Sidekick", though labeled a M is actually a L if not an XL! And I paid $8 for the shipping and they insist on deducting ANOTHER $8 off of my refund for the return shipping! Not at all customer friendly. I asked to speak with the manager, Sharon, and was told she would call me back. She did not. She simply sent me an email with the party line rhetoric regarding the return shipping change. So I called back and was transferred to Sharon. More rigid policy rhetoric. She clearly was unwilling to execute any managerial discretion to retain a customer. I will never purchase from them again. I urge you to beware. And if they have an item that you feel you just can't live without, try to find it on Amazon in order to purchase. That way if the sizing is way off, you won't get hit with return shipping fees (since it would be returned to Amazon, rather than Outback Trading Company). read more
