We hired Outback Deck to build our backyard deck and spent nearly $60,000. What should have been exciting turned into a frustrating, seven-month ordeal of mismanagement and poor communication. We often had to act as our own project managers just to keep things moving. The workmanship is disappointing: misaligned and warped handrails, a floorboard cut too short leaving a gap, and a crooked concrete pad at the base of the stairs. Despite assurances these issues would be fixed, once we paid in full the follow-through stopped. Two months ago they came to inspect the problems, but since then we've had no response. We haven't been able to stain the deck because repairs haven't been made. For the price and their reputation, we expected far better. My wife and myself just had a sales rep Nate come out for three hours at our home, he was very professional and did a great job, until we asked for a detail estimate for our up coming project. He said he could not do this without us signing a proposal with him. told him I would not sign anything. He called his boss Kevin to ask about what his options were. Kevin spoke to me and said he would not give me that information, but would break down the materials needed for the project. still just a price on a piece of paper, with a better price if I sign today and not at a later date. Again just a piece of paper was my estimate and nothing showing me what the break down of the project would be like the rest of our estimates. We will not be using this company for our up coming project. Buyers just be aware its 1.5-3 hours of your time for nothing in writing. Next Please!! read more

I'll start off by saying that I probably wouldn't recommend Outback Deck to anyone personally. The finished product is quite nice, but dealing with the project was subpar. There were a few things that we had stressed for the project from the beginning. Starting with sales, then to someone else at the office who had stepped in for a sick project manager, and then to the project manager himself. Every step I told them what I needed to be done. The PM wasn't there to communicate what needed to be done the first couple days, leading me to step in many times. Eventually he was around more frequently helping to make sure the project was going as planned. Suffice to say, my having to be so hands on definitely gave me a lot of heartburn and frustration over the whole process. Understandingly it's my money, but the PM should have been out here more from the start. I should feel like a priority to him. I wanted a specific type of pergola on my non-rectangular deck. The manufacturer of this pergola only sold them for rectangular installations. Bryan took a look, and said that they could order extra materials and custom build the rest. He also worked out how to bring power in so we could install two ceiling fans, and also a switched outlet for outdoor lighting. They did a great job, with a friendly, highly competent and efficient crew. They did exactly what I was hoping for, working long hours each day, but knocking it out in two days. The pergola looks perfect, and you can't tell which section is custom. It turned my deck into a beautiful outdoor room. I hung the ceiling fan and ran café lights, and it is truly magical. read more

Had a patio extension and gable roof completed. Concrete stated deteriorating, after +6 months they begrudgingly replaced the concrete. In doing so they had damaged the existing columns. Replaced the columns but they were not replaced accurately. Have been trying for over two months to have this corrected. Only viable option to "fixing" this is laying thin pavers over the existing patio to even out the mismatched placement. They are trying to charge me $3000 to do this. I've priced the pavers.. they do not cost $3000. Now I'm left with a half finished, unpainted crooked patio. read more

Great people to work with. We got estimates from 2 other companies, that WERE cheaper, but, when Outback came, they pointed out almost a dozen things no one else had mentioned that would have cost us more in the long run. On time and on schedule. We had an issue with how the deck could (actually could NOT) be supported by the house and they came up with a solution. Both county inspectors that have come out to sign off have told us this is the most solid deck they've ever seen. Love it and we'll talk to them about the back deck when it is time. read more

Just had the wonderful crew at Outback Decks rip out, replace and expand the old deck that I had. Went from wood to Timber-tech and could not be happier! Sales guy Bill P was the best sales guy we met and not pushy or try to rip us off. Very thorough answered all my stupid questions, gave us tips to talk to other contractors, gave me like 5 different estimates I asked for and actually got to know us and what we wanted. The PM Jvarn was awesome, knowledgable and communicated with me a lot, which I loved. Had some unforeseen issues arise as the old deck was old and he walked me through them and the way the new deck was going to address those issues and the fixes that were covered in the deal and that need a change order (which you don't know what you cannot see). I could go on about the crew for days. Just two guys with excellent workmanship and work ethic knocked out the demo and the build in about a week. My deck is engineered to now expand the width of my house or if I wanted to add a roof or balcony above with ease. They worked their butts off and even were courteous to having a 6 month old baby and dog in the house. I am already working with outback on my next project and have a few more in the future lined up for them after paying this off. Will recommend to anyone i talk to. read more

From the initial presentation and planning, to periodic updates, to execution of a difficult project, to final punch and follow up. I could not have asked for a better experience. The products they use are some of the best in class, and though not cheap, I got exactly what I hoped and paid for - A beautiful, well constructed deck without the contractor hassle and excuses generally associated with projects like this. These folks only work on total projects. I wanted to have the frame of my second story deck removed and a new frame put up. They do not do this kind of work. I suppose it is a money thing but who knows. read more

Sadly disappointed. OutBack convinced us to rebuild our deck using a product they recommended called Tigerwood. Disaster. Stain washed off in first rain. They came out and said they would restain when in got warmer-- in 8 weeks. To their credit, they did. And it still looks horrible. Much lighter than originally promised and floor does not match the railings. Now they won't return our emails... what a waste of money. read more
