Once in you see someone spinning alpaca wool into yarn. You talk to her and she explains the process and explains differences between alpaca and other wools. The whole thing is quite informative. Others explain that alpacas don't like being petted much, especially about the head. They are native mountain denizens, so keeping them cool during hot NJ summers is vital. 20 years is about their lifespan and they have usually just one offspring, occasionally twins, in an 11 month gestation period. Free snacks & apple cider & kids are allowed to climb on the tractors, plus there's a shop that sells yarn and other stuff women like. If you'd like to buy an alpaca, prices start at $500. Comments were made that she was off-key. She defended her performance by explaining that this was her first performance in 2 years and she was nervous. She has Lupus and has struggled with anxiety. At the same time, I am running around the house trying to get to work and my get house together for Thanksgiving which I host every year. I want everything in place to give my family a nice holiday. On my way to work, I started thinking about what I am thankful for this year. I am always thankful for my family and friends. I am thankful for their love and friendship as well as their health and happiness. This morning as I think about Selena Gomez and food shopping, I realize how grateful I am to be able to go work at Allaire Community Farm. If you haven't been to Allaire Community Farm, you have to go. Spend some time there, enjoy the animals, the garden and the peacefulness of the farm. I have had the privilege of spending my work day there. I don't work for the farm directly, but I get to do my work there. Their mission statement is "nurture through nature and helping people achieve their full potential..." They "support special needs children and adults, at-risk population, families battling cancer, veterans with PTSD and the local community..." When you go to the farm look around, pay close attention and you will see so much more. You will see Sean, JoAnn, and Allison wearing more hats than seems humanly possible. You will see that the farm relies on volunteers to run. Dedicated people who give their time for the farm to succeed and people who truly believe in the farm's mission. You will see contractors and businesses donate their time, money and services. You see school groups, recreation groups and therapeutic riding instructors working with people with special needs. You will see a place that expects you to come as you are and be who you are. There are no "special needs" on the farm. You are welcomed, accepted and supported to meet your potential despite your abilities, background or life choices. In a world where people are quick to criticize people struggling and appearance is valued, it is refreshing and humbling to see how the farm brings people together and best out in everyone. This is the type of place and the values, I want for my children. I got there by chance and very happy that I did. If you have some time, stop by to visit and see what I mean.

From there it was a short walk to the entrance and $5 ticketing. Bring cash as everything is cash only. If not there is an ATM by the port-a-potties (and another by the fruit weight and check-out). To the left of the parking lot is a $7 entry per kid playground. I couldn't drag my 4 yo away but once we did pay we discovered that a lot of the equipment was too hot to use. A short tractor ride leads to the picking fields; there's enough room and it wasn't too buggy but definitely bring a sun hat and apply sun block. There is one port-a-potty at the fields. Before getting on the tractor back you weight and pay for your berries and present a slip to get on. There are picnic tables with umbrellas and several "selfie stations". They sell local honey and some underwhelming burnt burgers and hot dogs. Skip that, and go to the BBQ trailer towards where the playground is, nice guy manning the grill when we visited and they have chicken, beef, and pork with a few sides available. Quick drive from NYC and will be recommending them to friends for a fun outing.

When you arrive, there's a hay ride that takes you to the festival from the parking lot! Very kid friendly and lots of photo opportunities. My favorite part was the corn maze and the pumpkin patch. There are a few things that aren't included in the price. I saw a pumpkin cannon launcher that was extra and it was pretty cool to watch! The food isn't amazing and a bit pricey but it's to be expected really at something like this! They had BBQ, lemonade stand, funnel cakes, Playa Bowls and one of the food trucks had seafood. Over all a good experience to visit once a year with larger group on nice fall day, support your local farms and farmers!

These vendors seemed to be picked for their close to nature wares which included natural soap and scrubs, the lady Who Made cork handbags, A man and woman who made beer bottle openers out of half horseshoes, and the lady who made homemade dog treats. I was thrilled to purchase 2 handmade items from Annabelle's Wish stand. Annabelle's Wish helps children and family struggling with rare neurological disorders. About a 50 minute drive from Philly and easy parking in a big field with folks directing you where to go. Definitely dusty so dress accordingly (and be prepared to take a shower after you get home). We arrived about 1pm and there was a steady stream of folks coming and going. Check-in process was very straightforward (showed QR code from previously purchased ticket). Highly recommend getting your tickets ahead of time online for a timed (but not strict at all) ticket. We were not interested in the boats, the tractor (dusty!) rides, we were just focused on the tulips. $1 per tulip if you pick more than 10 $2 per tulip if you pick less than 10 There were 4-5 different large sections that had row up on row of different varieties and colors of tulips. Stations with plastic containers to assist you with holding the tulips you've picked, then tables with rolls of brown paper to wrap your tulips and rubber band the bouquets. Checkout was super fast and easy and friendly, there are food trucks in a couple different spots (we got fruit smoothies which were excellent). All in all I had a really great time and look forward to returning for the sunflowers and zinnias!
