My friends and I came here for a spa break which cost £120 for one night's bed and breakfast, light lunch, three course dinner, a 60 minute treatment, and use of the facilities. Overall I thought it was well worth the money.
The hotel itself is very grand and the grounds are beautiful. Staff were very friendly at check in and after dumping our bags in the rooms we headed for our lunch. Lunch was served in The Claret Jug which is separate to the main hotel but just a minute's walk away. I opted for soup of the day (courgette, lime and thyme) and a salmon caesar salad. I wouldn't usually choose a salad over a sandwich but I just had a good feeling about it. My feeling was right - this was a decent sized salmon fillet, beautifully cooked with crispy skin, with lots of delicious parmesan. The soup was also really nice.
After lunch we headed to use the facilities which included a pool (with a specific kid's area), jacuzzi, sauna and steam room. After about an hour we retired to the bar area to get a drink while waiting for our treatments. Sadly the service was so slow we didn't manage to get a drink.
The treatment I chose was a back, neck, shoulder and face massage. This was very relaxing, there was your typical tinkly spa music, and everything smelled great. I'd recommend this treatment.
Then back to our rooms to get ready for dinner. Dinner is in the restaurant which is lovely. The menu offers three courses and I chose beetroot cured salmon, shoulder of lamb, and tiramisu. We shared a bottle of cava and a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon during the meal which were very nice and not too expensive. Service was great and the only issues came when settling the bill, which was a bit of a faff. It transpired that we should have set up a tab for each room in order to charge drinks to the room, but as nobody told us about this we hadn't done it and a number of us didn't have money or cards on us in the restaurant. Also they can't bring the card machine to the table so you need to go up to the till in order to pay. No huge issues really just a bit of a faff after a nice relaxed meal.
The bed was comfortable (for the few hours I slept in it before getting up for breakfast!) and the room was well laid out and there was no noise. There was a nice spread at breakfast with fresh tea and coffee brought to you at the table. I would have preferred the eggs to be cooked fresh but I realise how spoiled that makes me sound! Major TMI but I once had a bad experience after eating scrambled eggs at a hotel buffet... Still, everything I had was tasty.
Overall I enjoyed my stay here and would definitely recommend the spa break deal. read more
