I originally stopped by in search of pottery classes--and was delighted to find not only that they offer them, but also that a new session begins on October 13th. In addition, there's a Fall Break Art Camp for grades 2-5, where children will experiment with a range of media including watercolor, acrylics, and collage. As I walked through the space, I was able to watch artists at work and enjoy the current gallery exhibits on display. The atmosphere was inspiring and welcoming. Adult fall classes--running October 6th through December 13th--are also available, covering both visual and ceramic arts. Each class is taught by individual instructors, making it approachable for students of all levels. Best of all, online registration makes it simple to sign up. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that such a wonderful resource has been right in my neighborhood all along. It was a great experience, and I've already registered for pottery classes--something I'm really excited about! If you're looking for a place to explore your creative side, I highly recommend checking out the Art Center. Great value for 8 weeks art class at $280

Hudgens offers a great variety of artist's works in many different formats. Those artists who contribute a great amount of work to the center even have their own sections dedicated to their works. Although I am not too big on "art galleries," I did find the Hudgens center to be somewhat interestingly captivating. Some of the paintings actually made me hallucinate just looking at them, because of the vivid trance causing design the artist created. The teachers and staff truly know each child and work to meet them where they are academically. One of my daughters has faced some academic challenges, and the school has provided the right resources and support to ensure she stays on track with her classmates - all while helping her build confidence along the way. As a parent, I also appreciate how welcoming and involved the community is. There are so many opportunities to volunteer with varying time commitments so parents can be as engaged in a way that work for them. Most importantly, my girls love going to school. They're always excited to see their friends and teachers, and the sense of community extends beyond the classroom -- they play soccer and do gymnastics with many of their classmates, which has helped strengthen those friendships even more.

The pace was perfect and I never felt as though we were moving too fast. There were only 4 people in my Sunday afternoon class which allowed plenty of opportunities for him to walk around and help us individually. We also had opportunities to take little snack/bathroom breaks. The building is shared with the library and since that's closed on Sundays, there was usually ample parking. Sometimes there would be a children's performance in the theater near our studio but it was never really disruptive. Although sometimes, there would be less parking spots near the studio entrance on those days. I genuinely enjoyed taking this class at Spruill! I hope to take more classes here in the future and I even told my friends about it. The classes are reasonably priced for the quality of instruction that they offer, and there may be a few need-based scholarships available on their website. I believe there is a donation-based supply closet available to students who are currently enrolled in art classes, but the closet itself is only open during the week. Overall, I think Spruill is a great place hone any craft and I would love to take more classes in the future.
