But I have to say, I was SO impressed with the space. I'm no art aficionado, and I'm not even going to try to review this space for the quality as an art gallery or anything like that. I LOVE the fact that the owner has retained the "house" feeling. And the sound system was outstanding. The space was just charming, and the designated parking lot across the street was a lifesaver. I don't know any better as far as deciding how it was compared to any other places, but for what Miles, Kawai, and Trace Studios wanted to do, I can't imagine a better place for it.

I've been itching to take a jewelry making class at Amalgam ever since seeing a Groupon deal for…read moreit, and I finally got to go this weekend! I took the 4 hour workshop which was mostly metal working. It was an amazing experience. Wendy is an awesome teacher and explained each step of the process thoroughly. She made herself available to the students and did a lot of one-on-one work. Although we all made the same project (a ring), Wendy made sure there were many opportunities to customize it. You determine the band size of your ring, decide to have a patterned or smooth band, whether or not to have a stone set in the ring, and the color and shape of the stone. I left Amalgam with a beautiful handmade and custom ring! The 10am class went until 2pm with many opportunities for snacks and bathroom breaks in between. The way the class works is Wendy explains each step as you go along and floats around the room to help people complete that step. For the complicated steps (i.e. Soldering), Wendy works with students one by one to ensure safety and correctness. When you're waiting for your turn or letting your ring sit in the "pickling solution" as Wendy calls it, you can relax and do whatever. I snacked (bring food or buy it at the cafe right outside), socialized, and studied for an upcoming exam I had; so, bring things to do or not - just a heads up. Remember to wear close toed shoes, and be ready for an easy, relaxing Saturday at Amalgam if you take the 4 hour workshop, which I highly recommend. It's a fabulous activity for mom/dad and daughter/son dates, a girl/guy's day, or plain ol' self care. Location and parking: The studio is situated in a grouping of buildings that kind of look like bungalows. When pulling into the lot, you won't immediately see Amalgam. You will see a small cafe and a storefront with a big letter "D" on it. Amalgam is between those about 100 ft farther back. There's a small parking lot so if you're going to a class, I would highly recommend showing up early to nab a spot.

We left School of Rock a few years ago. Now that there is new management, we had hopes for families involved and were extremely disappointed to find out that a parent of a very talented School of Rock student received an email threatening enrollment because another student accused her of "blowing" at him. The student in question is very talented and has been a part of School of Rock for 5 years. There were no witnesses to this "blowing at," and it was not captured on camera. The complaining parent stated that the girl made her son uncomfortable because the accused student is on the Autism Spectrum. School of Rock could have used this moment to educate others about neurodiversity, but did not. FYI, School of Rock had no prior instances or concerns about the talented student prior to this one complaint

I attended the Saturday Chef's Market at Pullman Yards with his sister yesterday and we had a…read morespectacular time. This is a very popular and awesome experience for the whole family. There are multiple vendors, a Balloon Museum, and an indoor space for events and art with a chill lounge with images that pay homage to the history of the Pullman Porters. I strongly recommend this experience and that you arrive around 12 noon because it gets crowded quickly. Admission is free but you pay each vendor as you purchase. This is an every Saturday evening beginning at 1 p.m. through 5 p.m. EST. There is both paid and on the street free street parking on Arizona. There is no specific Yelp profile for Pullman Yards or the Chef's Market so this is the only option I could find about the venue.

I've been following facet on social media for a while. I was finally able to visit, and I was…read morepleasantly surprised. Facet Gallery is in Old 4th Ward, right off the Beltline. Parking is right out front for $5, but if you don't mind walking for less than 5 minutes, you can street park for free. Pay attention to the street signs so you won't be towed!! I attended the opening reception for "Tradition: A Tattooers Art Show." There was music playing, I'm not sure if it was a dj, or a playlist. Beer and wine were sold on the first floor towards the back. I like the layout of the gallery; there were at least 20 pieces on display. The prices were reasonable: $150-1000. That's pretty standard from what I've seen at local galleries. I really liked the ambiance; I was able to talk to other patrons and some of the artists. The show had pieces from Miya Bailey, Corey Davis, and Cake, but I also learned about new (to me) artists to follow. Overall, Facet is great a gallery to visit in Atlanta, I'll definitely be back.

I had to do far too much of the leg work after paying an additional $375 on shipping costs. I don't know where the disconnect was but the driver from Rancho Buck had the audacity to say, "I don't need your attitude on a Friday" and hung up. They also struggled to find my address when deciphering between Place and Avenue. The artist that I have been following has left this gallery, which made me happy that I can follow elsewhere with my business.
