Kooky Place with not obvious charm. The owner didn't speak very clearly in German so we switched to Italian. His wife or helper was even more muted. So why 5 stars? The food was incredible. Very fresh, expertly made and I'd have to say we had the best pasta carbonara I've ever had. The house red wine was unbelievable and at €10 per glass with a healthy pour we were happy. For locals only. Cash only. Not acceptable for business travel. The food was fantastic and although they claim to accept cards, they only accept cards billed to a local Germany address. Unwilling to even try to run a credit card set up for international travel. They directed me to an ATM and told me no one has an issue with ATMs. My thinking is -don't claim to take cards then send customers to an ATM. When I pulled together the cash to pay, they then unhappily requested the receipt I had just been given by them. read more

Absolutely wonderful and charming restaurant! The owner and his wife and simply lovely and the food was amazing!! The tuna tartar was beaming with citrus and the mixed salad was perfectly dressed and well balanced. We all chose the black truffle tagliatelle, which was filling and made with such care! Terrible experience here. Chose this restaurant as we were looking for a decent restaurant away from all of the tourist establishments in our neighborhood. As my partner and I entered the restaurant we asked if there was seating for two. The older lady working at the restaurant looked at us and said no, the restaurant was full. First of all, there was one table that had guests sitting at it and all of the other tables were open. While we didn't have reservations, we were a bit surprised to not get a seat at such an empty establishment. During our conversation with the restaurant's worker, an older couple entered behind us and overheard our conversation and that the restaurant wasn't accepting walk-ins. They made a comment that they too did not have a reservation. We started to walk out and to our surprise, the same worker at the restaurant that turned us away sat the other couple who also didn't have a reservation. To sum up what happened... 1) Two different couples enter a restaurant nearly at the same time and both did not have a reservation. 2) The first couple (young gay males) were turned away and told the restaurant was full. 3) The second couple (older man and woman) who arrived shortly after the first couple were given a table. This place may have decent food according to previous reviewers but they have terrible service and clearly employ staff members that are discriminatory. -------------- Schreckliche Erfahrung hier. I don't write many reviews but I am compelled to write on for this place. This family run restaurant is very charming and the meal we had was one of the best meals I've had in a while. The reason I enjoyed the food so much was that food is not over sauced or flavored, they cook the food perfectly and season it just right. The wine selection was also excellent. The husband is a chef and is a true artist, The staff and especially the wife can come off surely, when we first sat down we where not sure we where welcome. When we ordered our food, the wife owner said no our choices where bad and proceeded to bring out what she thought was best and she was right, To read that she discriminated against a gay couple makes my heart sink, as it definitely taints my experience as well. If you do go here, be open that your experience may not seem welcoming at first, but if you hang in there I think you will be quite happy. read more

As others have said, this is a first rate Italian restaurant, located south of Marienplatz. It's small and charming and the dishes and the wine list are both very high quality and authentic. Some in our party were very excited to see a 2004 Barolo on the wine list for a reasonable price. But when they brought it to the table it was a 2010! We settled for a 2013 Amarone della Valpolicella instead, which was delicious once it opened after being decanted, and was also reasonably priced. This was the only hiccup in an otherwise flawless experience. The menu is in Italian on a blackboard that they wheel to your table. There is a separate permanent menu with standard Italian antipasti and pasta dishes, but the weekly menu is more interesting. The tagliatelle with rabbit, and steak with mushrooms stood out among the dishes we tried but everything was well-executed. The desserts were good as well, with a pear tart and chocolate mousse as the standouts. The menu is not large but there is a lot of variety and very interesting dishes. This restaurant would be a standout in any major city. The proprietor understood a good bit of English and we were able to communicate in a mixture of English and Italian and it all worked out fine. We came with a party of 4 around 9pm in a Thursday with no reservation and were seated w/o delay. Note that they only accept German credit cards, not the standard Amex, visa, etc. So if you are a tourist you will need to bring cash. Our dinner for 3 with wine came to around 200 euros. There we were, two Americans wandering Munich on a rainy Mayday searching desperately for something to eat. After finding several places closed, we stumbled upon an open Osteria Veneta. Happily, we popped in expecting maybe a pizza or lasagne. Wow, we were just a little off. A beautiful little restaurant, Osteria Veveta is more than a step above. Although none of the staff spoke English, they were very kind in dealing with our clumsiness, taking our coats and seating us though we had no reservation. Yes.... This is a reservation type of place. With the help of a handy dandy translation app, we enjoyed a wonderful meal and were able to engage the gracious owner and hostess. They were so very kind and hospitable! My wife loved her spaghetti pomodoro and my Filleto di Rombo was outstanding. Add to this a good bottle of wine and the nice couple of locals we met while there and it made for a truly memorable evening! read more

Delicious and authentic Italian food in a quiet setting. Every ingredient is fresh. The staff is friendly and welcoming. Despite my extremely limited German they were so helpful. I had a wonderful tagliatelle with porcini mushrooms. They brought a complimentary bruschetta as well. Definitely choose this place over Eataly across the street!
