Phenomenal, remarkable, outstanding, and tremendous are just a few adjectives that come to mind…read morewhen trying to describe this little gem! Hyperbole? Maybe, but hear me out before you jump to that conclusion. I've written it before, and I'll write it again, sometimes eateries that you stumble upon turn out to be so much more rewarding than those you set out for. We were looking for a different restaurant and couldn't find it. So, when standing on one side and looking across the Naab River, in the the quaint little town of Kallmünz, we saw a small patio filled with people drinking and dining. So off we walked across the small walking bridge that was built in 1752 (BTW, this little town needs its own praise). It had been lightly raining, so some tables on the patio were tucked in under the cover, while others were left to the elements a bit. They were at full capacity inside, so out in the elements we sat. We wouldn't have it any other way as it was just beautiful! The rain let up, and the ambiance was just so inviting. The staff (Waitress and I believe the owner based on the fact he was drinking beer while working) couldn't have been more accommodating. I believe we were the only Americans (or any English speaking people) there, so they pulled out the English menus and took it upon themselves to go ahead and precut our pizza for us. Note to new European travelers: pizzas are not precut. Most folk will use a knife and fork to eat their pizza, so if you want it a la American, ask them in advance to cut it for you. Not to belabor the point, but that view was so special. They had a gate for entrance right onto the patio. The river was literally no more than say 10 feet from the edge of the patio, which played host to an array of wildlife. While waiting for our food to arrive my daughter and wife strolled out and about to pass the time away. Speaking of food, yup, it's time to whip out those superlative adjectives again. Ok, for context, just two weeks prior we were in Rome. Obviously we dined out every night and I'm tellin' ya, hands down, the food at this little German Pizzeria beat the pants off of everything we tried in Rome. In my book, that speaks volumes! We shared a pizza, I had tortellini, so did my wife, but with a different sauce. My daughter had rigatoni and obviously we all dug into each other's dish a bit. Individually baked in their own dishes, of course. Very cheesy, great sauce, just awesome. The pizza was spot on as well! Good beer selection and all at an amazingly low price. Trust me, we've been traveling and eating out for the past straight month and by far, this has been the best value to date. Three main entrees, one pizza, three beers and one soda all for 40 Euros. Yes, you read that correctly! Fantastic meal, fantastic ambiance, good service, and a fantastic price! We are so going back, and if you haven't yet, you need to go there. If you have, you know! And you know you'll be going back too. Cheers!

She also informed me of the specials and they sounded more amazing than anything on the menu. I ordered the minestrone soup. It came with a basket of small round freshly baked bread. It had lots of fresh veggies and the broth was simple in flavor. For the main course I has the Tonnarelli Scarface. It is black pasta with mussels. I had wanted to try black pasta for a while (it's made with octopus ink! So interesting). It was heavenly. I got 25 perfectly cooked mussels (I counted them in the end just for the review) with fresh al dente pasta cooked in delicious sauce that contained garlic and cherry tomatoes. It left me dancing and singing while walking home. I was very happy with my first black pasta experience. There are only two cons I can think of: I waited 15 mins for the soup and 15 more minutes for the pasta. Even though I was the only customer, it still took a whole while. The second thing was the little lamps that were the centerpiece on each table. They were super dusty! What's up with that? Other notes. There was a restroom but I didn't use it, so no comment. There were lots of steps and if there was a rail for strollers/wheelchair I did not see it. I'll be back here to try the pizza soon.

We don't eat fish, but they did have a lot of fish/italian plates if thats what you seek. We were in the area and decided to try this place for lunch. When we walked in the matron advised they were nearly closed, however, she has the manager if it was alright for us to eat and he came out and talked to us and said yes, we could eat. He was very kind. The matron sat us, supplied us with drinks and a bread basket immediately and also brought us the large specials chalkboard to review, a very kind gesture. After placing our order with the manager we enjoyed the atmosphere. Its bright and classy. The place settings at each table were beautiful done. I would recommend this place for a quaint romantic dinner date. The restrooms are also very clean. What I appreciated the most was the thoughtful display of a small glass bowl in each stall with free feminine products. Its not something they had to do, but its very kind of them to think of women in that kind of emergency situation. My husband ordered the RibEye steak and I ordered Ravioli Truffels. We each shared our meals and really enjoyed the steak the most. It was cooked to medium, as requested with a pink center and extremely juicy flavor. Finding a steak cooked to this level of "american style" perfection is hard to find, especially in a town so close to us. Now we know where to go for a decent Ribeye. As for the ravioli truffels, the flavor was decent, presentation simple and elegant but the sauce was overpowered with butter. I would order the Ribeye next time we go, and we will go again. As for the service, it was prompt and kind. We really enjoyed our first lunchtime experience (went around 1400 uhr) and we will go back again to try more dishes.

They also serve bread with garlic and peppers in oil so I guess we didn't need the appetizer ha! Both were yummy. Then we moved on to dinner. Spaghetti carbonara for me and lasagna for hubs. We thoroughly enjoyed both although I would say the lasagna was better. We didn't get dessert, but they had some decent options. Typically Italian offerings. We didn't see an English menu but we also didn't ask for one. It may be available. Would come back here. Parking lot is small.
