The cafe is very popular but not noisy. I am disabled and this shop is a godsend as I cant walk around big shops and supermarkets but I can get most things here.

A great thing to support that adds to the traditional feel of the more independent aspects of Oxford shopping and makes the big town seem more like a local farming market.

I didn't think it was much at the time when I lived in South Croydon, but now I really do miss places like this. I miss wandering "down to town" and passing this market and then wandering pass it again on the way home. It was a great place, full of vibrant people, a decent selection of stalls including ones that sold fresh fruit and veg, bags, purses, books, watches, pendants, antiques, flowers, specialty foods and the list goes on. In general, the number of stalls increased during the weekends. As with most outdoor markets, there's potential for haggling if you're into that kind of thing. There's also a lot of trash, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder... keep your eyes peeled for bargains in the summer, such as freshly plucked berries at an amazing price! Towards closing time (around 5:00 pm), there were lots of bargains that could be had: 1 pound for this or 1 pound for that. That is if you can understand the locals, screaming in cockney rhyming slang. There is nearby street parking, but the best bet would be to park near the city centre and walk down. Well, it turns out it was worth it. This place is dedicated to local Farmers who are growing and raising the produce themselves. After reading 'The Omnivore's Dilemma' by Michael Pollan earlier this year (I recommend this book to anyone who wants to know how the food gets on your table) I have developed a keen interest in buying my food in this way, and it appears so have a lot of other people as these kind of farmer's markets are increasing substantially in popularity. This market is held weekly in the grounds of a local school and has a very good choice of organic vegetables & fish as well as free range meat (chicken, beef, lamb, pork, sausages, bacon). You can also find buffalo mozzarella, fruit juices, cold cuts and yoghurt. The stall holders are very keen to explain how it may have been grown, reared and caught and although it's a little more expensive than your local supermarket the pay-off is taste, quality and ultimately your health.

All these items are locally produced by stall holders who hold hygiene certificates, and who have to make and package their goods to exacting standards. Everything is freshly made the day before or even on the day, so you can freeze it at home. You can place orders for almost anything you want - sausage rolls, handmade chocolates, elaborately decorated celebration cakes, whatever - knowing that it will be made locally, from scratch and from quality ingredients, with no fillers, chemicals or preservatives. On various days and hours there are bustling people shopping for fruits, veg, meats, and other goods. While on other hours the lower level offers tables to munch on lunch items such as freshly made sandwiches, tea, coffee and desserts. Upper level offers proper dining with a rustic feel. Need a loo, that is here too! Overall a delightful experience with several visits during my stay in town
