Where to start... What a hidden gem of a farm shop! Really rustic and well off the usual beaten supermarket path (but far from inaccessible and under stocked, mind you)!
Here they hold a wide selection of carefully chosen local food and drink produce. I've been shopping here for well over 5 years now, and during that time it's been great to see the shop go from strength to strength. In recent years it's has expanded quite a bit with regard to the selection of food offered and now sells pretty much everything from fruit, veg, meat and fish, dairy, preserves, cakes, chocolate, wine and ales... Not to mention it boasts a fantastic deli range of tempting gourmet food!
As always, they really like to try to source all of their produce from locally based farms and butchers... And if it ain't possible to get the local stuff, then it's sourced from within the UK (though not sure where the lemons come from). As such, all the meat is sourced from the local butcher's, called "Pembury Porkers" and, as such, it's first class in every way!
And if that wasn't enough, when the summer comes around every year, the farm offers everyone the chance to pick their own home grown strawberries, raspberries and red currents... Which always makes for a glorious day out with the family and/or friends.
I can't speak highly enough of this venue! In fact, I hardly need to go to the supermarket anymore, as it's got everything but toiletries. Avoid your supermarkets as much as possible, I say (to avoid things like the recent milk price row) and show your support for your local shops and farms as much as possible. You really won't be disappointed you did! Especially at Downingbury Farm. read more
