I appreciate the steps that OSMC is taking keeping us safe from Covid. A patient came in voicing very loud how upset she was that she had to walk a few extra steps through the way to get to receptionist. Every one in the lobby heard her unpleasant words. She has knee pain, so she shouldn't have to walk farther for everyone's safety. It is not the receptionist doing. No need for her to be this way to them. All the staff at OSMC were good. read more

I have had NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS since I started my hip replacement surgery with this place!! Dr King is AMAZING, that being said OSMC is NOT!! They lost very crucial paperwork that cost me a BUNCH of extra money and when asked about it, you get nothing but, who cares! Are you kidding me!? Do not use OSMC unless you want them to do the same to you! Customer service is NOT their specialty for sure! read more

The physical therapy was really awesome. They helped as much as they could, but I had a failed total knee and a failed bilateral total shoulders. So there was only so much they could do. I am now going back in for surgery next week and I hope the outcome will be great. read more

Do not go to the OSMC in Nappanee, they overbook and you will have to wait 50 minutes to be seen and LITERALLY get only 5 minutes of the doctors time. Didn't even acknowledge the wait & delay or apologize, like it's the standard. read more

The doctor and people in PT are great. Very easy to work with. People from their business office and their collection policies are not. Most places will work with you, take payments bi-weekly, etc. They do not. read more

OSMC has no compassion for what employees go through. I was taking care of my mother on hospice. I was the main caretaker and would care for her before and after work. I would forget to punch in and or out for lunch occasionally. I was written up. When I was ambushed and talked to from HR I was told Oh I didn't know that. My boss did not tell HR what I was going through, HR told me I was a good employee and showed up on time everyday. I am now working where they have compassion and work with you when life issues come up. read more

i was supposed to have to have my big toe amputated on the 1st. of March. On Monday the 28th of February that afternoon they called me and said I needed $195 copay. At that time I didn't have the $195 . So I told I would my VA benefits to cover the surgery and they said OK. So I drove over to the VA clinic to authorization for the surgery and they faxed the authorization to OSME to Dr. Hennings office. I was told by Dr. Hennings nurse that everything was good to go. Then I get a call the morning of the surgery that they couldn't use the VA authorization because it hadn't been checked out. They ask me if I wanted to reschedule the surgery and I told them [ HELL NO ]. It seems they were more concern about the $195 than they was about the surgery. I had my next to the big toe removed and didn't have any problems at all. read more

I have been going to OSMC Elkhart and Middlebury for just under 5 months for therapy and rehab for full knee replacements. I have worked with 4 different therapists and yet I have my main 2. They have been nothing short of amazing to work with. They have pushed me to be my best and get back to a normal life and pain free. As far as Covid procedures I felt very safe. There are a lot of safety measures in place. Everyone was professional and friendly from the front office staff to the nurses. I highly recommend Dr Sonntag! He was friendly and knowledgeable. He took the time to listen to all of my concerns. I left feeling that I received the best care possible. read more

I've been going to OSMC for 5 years.it's sad that I would have to go there that long for any kind of medical attention, especially for pain management and they still have not subsided the pain after all these years, but just gave me narcotics. read more

My son fell from a 2nd story roof the night of Feb.11th (Sat.) and was taken to the closest Hospital, Elkhart General, with Tibia, Fibula and Pylon fractures of the left leg. He had surgery the next morning with one of the Orthopedic & Sports medicine doctors in Elkhart/Goshen, and then sent home with a Fixator in his leg that looked crooked (I'm an RN), and still actively bleeding on Sunday, with minimal dressing supplies. The discharge nurse said to not touch the dressings that covered the Fixator insertion sites; only change the absorption sponges and wraps, because they surgeon prefers to remove these himself and clean the sites on the first post-op visit, the following week. Monday I purchased nearly $125.00 worth of bandages, wraps, and one pack of disposable bed pads to protect bedding. The drainage slowed, but had not stopped. The leg was very swollen despite ice packs and elevation of it above his heart. It was not until Tuesday evening, when I requested a change of Surgeons to the Trauma team at Memorial Hospital, this doctor phoned me back to "discuss the request" that I was told my son needed another surgery--to actually repair the fractures. The hospital hadn't mentioned this. It was not on the surgeon's discharge instructions, either. However, the instructions for what to do in case of a heart attack, or stroke was. OSMC has rude, condescending office staff who refused to release him to Memorial'sTrauma team (where he should have been sent from Elkhart General's Emergency Department after seeing "the worst break I've ever seen,"), and knowing the OSMD surgeon assigned him specialized in shoulder and wrist, because the "leg specialist would not be available" to do the surgery. Thursday, his leg continued to remain grossly swollen despite leg elevation and ice packs. While replacing the outer dressings on the still oozing sites the gauze wrapped had loosened enough to see a bit of purple. Loosening the gauze a bit I saw he had a large bruise on his calf; one of the symptoms for a deep vein thrombosis (blood clot), and his foot was "still numb" from the surgery, a potential second symptom. I drove him to Memorial Hospital's Emergency Department, explain the chain of events to their ER staff. We left with instruction to phone the Trauma Dept. when it opened to get in ASAP--it was now 2 a.m., following the exams, X-rays, ultrasounds and assurance they would squeeze him in, but no blood clot. Once the Trauma Surgeon saw him his care was transferred over immediately. The Fixator was not properly done, thus requiring a second surgery to correct it on Mar 03. The new Trauma Surgeon suspected (and proven right) the Fixator was preventing drainage of the swelling. Once he corrected the placement and added on needed sections to it, the swelling subsided rapidly. Time was critical with this kind of break. The bone repair could not be done until the swelling subsided. And the longer the leg remained swollen, the few options the Trauma surgeon had when he repaired the fractions because the body starts growing new bone. There were bone fragments needing to be removed from the Pylon splintering and rods and screws placed to repair these fractures. This finally occurred March 13. During the Mar 03 surgery (to correct the Fixator) routine swabs were done on the Fixator insertion sites and sent off for cultures. The swelling began subsiding quickly once the Fixator was done properly. When he returned for the 3rd (and final surgery) the heel culture showed a MRSA infection in the heel. The Operating Room, and personnel now had to alter how surgery was done (more precautions in disposal of bandages, instruments, etc.), as on would for a highly infectious, quarantined patient. The surgery not took 5 1/2 hours instead of 3 hours, and my son had a vacuum pump inserted at the heel to contain drainage, and he began strong IV antibiotics. Due to this office my son needed 3 surgeries, rather than two, he contracted MRSA during the first surgery (it was a closed fracture & not from the fall), he required an Infection Control doctor to prescriber the three IV antibiotics and one by mouth, not to mention the anticoagulant (blood thinner) due to long term bedrest. Last week, the MRSA infection was finally gone, the heel closed off, and the vacuum and PICC line (for IV meds) discontinued and no sign of infection in his weekly blood tests. And his abnormal liver tests that had been a worry just before that went back to normal. Because of this office, my son's recovery took much, much longer (and so far he has been off work three months because of the life-threatening MRSA infection, he has additional hospital charges (an extra surgery and home care costs to follow his progress, and he is not to bear weight on that leg until May 23, when they anticipate he will be able to begin physical therapy to regain strength from bedrest, and range of motion in the left leg. Went to OSMC this morning, after having pain in my left shoulder for 2 months! Naturally they did x-rays...a big waste of time, when it's a rotor-cuff or ligaments! Doctor gave me a song and dance about my age and therapy...Gave me a cortisone shot and sent me on my way! 2 hours later, I'm in pain again! NOT GOING BACK THERE!!! read more

I had two surgery s on my foot it was broke two places ankle ball shatterd the first surgery wasn't right my foot wasn't strong enough then the second surgery two months they cut pain medication off my foot swelling still fills like I have my foot hanging from two nails on wall . Been putting little pressure on it.dont think I'm going back .I'm getting a second opinion read more
