We registered our son last winter for Oshawa Basketball (https://oshawabasketball.ca/).
When we registered him, we thought he would be playing on a team with kids his own age, but once he started, it was clear the children were much younger than he was.
When I asked about it, I was told that due to COVID, a lot of people cancelled, so they placed everyone in one group, despite the age difference.
We were not happy with this, especially because we did not get an email letting us know & rather than just cancelling the program or giving us the option to withdraw from the program, they decided to keep it going despite the major differences in age.
Once my son started to play, the coach promised the next time around they will be placed with kids their own age & this was just a one off because of the pandemic.
Come summer, my son asked to play basketball again, so I personally emailed this organization to confirm that my son would be playing with kids his own age prior to registering. She stated he would be. It was also stated on the website the different age groups for the teams.
This summer he started again & unfortunately he was playing with kids that went up to his waist. Clearly they were a lot younger than him.
This whole program is poorly run, barely any communication, ZERO money put into the program, it's simply not worth the money. (We spent close to $700 for an unorganized "program" with zero games.
It's my fault for putting him in this program again after what they did the first time around, but hopefully through our experience, no one else has to go through this. read more
