Health care provider (M Warning) refused to provide us with a sports physical for my son for school…read moreafter waiting 1.5 hours to see someone. We have a regular pediatrician we visit annually but unable to schedule appointment with our regular provider in time for school sports form that was due. Health care provider told us we needed to see our regular doctor, despite OSF noting that they will provide sports physicals for school. We asked what we could do and health care provider kept saying see regular doctor "if you have one" (as clearly she didn't believe us and insulting us as caregivers, and we repeatedly noted we see Dr. Toohill and she kept saying I don't know that person), which was clearly not a solution. She then insinuated that our primary care physician was incompetent. Incredibly rude, insulting, uncaring and unhelpful.

My height was entered wrong & she wrote a weight higher than what the scale said. The doctor said I had to have a throat culture. I have significant childhood trauma from throat cultures. So I started sobbing uncontrollably. She left the room and sent in a nurse who told me I scared the doctor. The doctor charted that my mood was good. What?!!

Great service I was…read morein the process of traveling across country and my allergies started to cause me to wheeze and my chest tightened pretty bad. While I have tried several times bringing awareness to this situation before posting, I don't feel…read morethey're taking it seriously and I received the usual brush off from everyone I contacted. So now I'll go this route instead as a precaution to others who visit this Emergency room with head/brain issues. On 8/7/23 I was transported to the ER by ambulance. I had very sudden extreme pain in my head along with complete right eye blindness, severe neck pain, vomiting, and confusion. Once staff spoke to the EMT's that transferred me and getting only half my issues and symptoms, the nurses and doctors took it upon themselves to diagnose me with a migraine, like the EMTs had stated, without any tests or scans and only checking with EMTs for symptoms. They spoke to me asked me a couple questions and left me in a dark room dazed and confused. Once they spoke to my husband and he advocated this was in fact not a typical migraine and that I had gone completely blind in one eye, he stated we were NOT leaving without a scan to find out what was going on in my brain. Doctors finally ordered the scan only to find out I had a ruptured brain aneurysm, also known as hemorrhagic stroke. I was bleeding in my brain and it was on the verge of taking my life. Unfortunately this is not the only time this has happened. My Mother was also transported to this ER after collapsing at home several years ago and while they spent several hours testing her heart, they didn't scan her head for several hours and she also had a ruptured brain aneurysm that they failed to diagnose for hours. Unfortunately my Mom wasn't able to survive her rupture and passed away hours later. The reason I'm writing this is because this ER and many others do not recognize Hemorrhagic stroke symptoms! They play guessing games with matters that affect your brain instead of ordering the scans needed to diagnose these issues quickly. More education of hemorrhagic stroke symptoms need to be implemented and their medical staff need to order the necessary scans to detect such issues. If you arrive at this emergency room with unusual head/brain issues, or any of the hemorrhagic stroke symptoms advocate for yourself to get a scan!!! Unfortunately I've learned the hard way we have to educate ourselves because we can't rely on this ER to recognize or help us in that area.

We didn't find out about this until more than a week had passed. My sister, a nurse, took her into the ER and our followup included a visit with the wound care team, specifically Shelby, RN and Teresa, PA. When we went in, the wound looked bad-they took good care of her, abraded the wound, Teresa even took the time while we were in there to talk with my sister on the phone about what they were doing and what had been done previously. We arrived late-it took me 45 minutes to get my mother out the door and they couldn't have been more gracious or helpful.

Forget pretty much anything serious or dealing with family planning, it's a hopeless morass of bullshit and referals. The head desk folks are friendly, though. Also, bring a book or two because, although all these places are empty, you'll still wait until after your appointment time. You will also never see an MD, just a RN. The staff is friendly though. The referall call center will also likely take a week or more to get you to a doctor because they don't check your insurance properly. It's a useless middle step that adds nothing. People are friendly though. In short, if you live here you have very few choices and the people here are friendly.

My wife and I just had our second child on 8/24. Our first was born at Bro-Menn, and while the…read morestaff was awesome, the facilities were only so-so. We were thrilled we'd get to try out the new birthing center; the tour was awesome, and we were excited. Well, that excitement lasted about four or five hours. It IS a gorgeous facility, with tons of natural light, and more room than I expected for our accommodations. However, we found the staff very hit-or-miss, and overall felt like we were being generally ignored. I thought it was just because they were filled to bursting, being the new shiny OB wing, but based on m m's review from 6/23, we had almost EXACTLY the same issues. The good: The birthday cake was pretty delicious. Getting a silver spoon was kind of neat, but unnecessary. The rooms are big. Now the rest... First, a word on the facility. While it's new, it's often ... kinda cheap. BOTH of the lights in the Dad's Corner, and one of the lights behind my wife's bed were burned out. We let them know on Wednesday and again on Thursday. When we left on Saturday around noon, they were STILL burned out. Housekeeping came in one time, on Wednesday when my wife was sleeping. They said they'd come back later, but we didn't see them again during the three-day duration of our stay. They never even came by after Catering spilled a soda near the door, and the lady notified them. The food was another issue. We found Bro-Menn's menu to be much, much better than we both expected. OSF's is much worse. Nothing on the menu was particularly good, the soups were watery, the hot meals were tasteless, and it was overall poor to average. All of this could have been forgiven if the nursing staff had been attentive, prompt, or personable. I would say three out of over a dozen nurses we had made a point of introducing themselves. Almost none wrote their names on the whiteboard. They dropped by as little as possible, never just checking in, and took their time getting back to us when we called. They even needed US to call THEM to remind them when my wife needed her pain medicine. At Bro-Menn, there was one nurse for my wife and one nurse for our kid. I've been told this isn't the norm, but I thought it was great - both patients got the needed attention. Here, my wife and our new son shared a nurse. As a result, I felt like our new son was basically ignored, honestly. A few incidents kind of stand out, but this is getting over-long. I'll just mention two, because they were the same night. My wife was (finally) able to sleep, and dozing soundly with our new son nearby. A tech came in and rather than check back later, she actually woke my wife up - whose vitals had been fine since the c-section - rather than coming back later. Either that same tech or a different one just picked our son out of bed to run vitals, too, rather than waiting until he was awake on his own. I don't know who it was - like I said, they didn't introduce themselves. I'd say three or four out of twelve-ish nurses were anything like warm or personable. Most of the rest weren't. New facilities and neat ads or not, I'd recommend staying away. We thought the staff was simply overworked because there were so many patients going to the shiny new center, but it seems like this is standard at OSF. We are never going back there unless we have to at this point. Bro-Menn gave us five-star care; the care here was one-star. I added 1 star for the rooms being huge and actually comfortable. In nearly every other respect, this was a 1-star experience we don't want to repeat.

I had a baby here 5 days ago. Everyone is pretty laid back...not in a good way. There are a…read morecouple nurses out of the bunch that are really nice and accommodating. The others were almost rude, as if I was inconveniencing them. At one point, I asked for pain medication and had to wait 45 minutes for the nurse assigned to me to come with it. Nurses Laura and Jen were amazing. Nurse Jan, I could do without. The others didn't even bother to introduce themselves. What? At one point, one nurse was barking orders and yelling at me for not being able to move (b/c I had an epidural) and told me that I wasn't trying hard enough to move my body...HELLO???? I just had a baby 2 minutes ago and now you're yelling at me for not being able to move my numb body? Atrocious. I was also disappointed because the new birthing center wasn't open. When I found out last year that I was pregnant, I purposefully picked OSF St Joseph to birth in the new birthing center. They told me a projected finish date of May. Then it was pushed to June. Then July...and now they're saying any day now and then some people are saying in August. Who knows at this point. The room I was put in had nothing in it. I had to ask the tech on duty for a table to put my food on. Another nurse brought me a table and chair for my family to eat at the following evening. I didn't know what furniture was standard for a room so didn't bother asking. Where I had my previous children, I had really attentive and friendly nurses that made me as comfortable as I could be. Here, not so much. Just Jen and Laura. The others barely noticed I was there. At one point, a nurse said, "You're so quiet in this corner. We didn't even notice you." Um, is it my job to bring to notice that I'm a patient there? I didn't know that was protocol.
