They are so specialized that I have to see many different doctors and incur many charges (which I suspect is part of their plan) just to get approvals for refills on maintenance medications. When I call for any problem, I am usually on hold for a half hour or longer, before someone picks up, and then they often can't help me without transfering the call somewhere else with another hold. They won't send me text messages or emails or leave messages with any detail whatsover, so they make me call them back every time and sometimes the person who wanted me to call back is not available amd nobody else can help. The specialists don't know about each other - they only deal with their specialty and will not talk to each other directly- only through orders, so Coordination is slow and difficult. The worst office is urology on college ave. They never answer there phone, so your only option is to play phone tag with them, or drive over to their office. Appointments at all the offices are difficult to get within about 2 weeks. Even the emergency room and prompt care make you wait for a long time before you are seen. They aren't willing to help you with discomfort until you are Completely checked out by doctors whichay not be available for hours ( although I have heard them chit chatting in backrooms while patients are suffering in the waiting room). There is no sense of urgency there - they seem to work at a pretty casual pace. read more

My wife and I just had our second child on 8/24. Our first was born at Bro-Menn, and while the staff was awesome, the facilities were only so-so. We were thrilled we'd get to try out the new birthing center; the tour was awesome, and we were excited. Well, that excitement lasted about four or five hours. It IS a gorgeous facility, with tons of natural light, and more room than I expected for our accommodations. However, we found the staff very hit-or-miss, and overall felt like we were being generally ignored. I thought it was just because they were filled to bursting, being the new shiny OB wing, but based on m m's review from 6/23, we had almost EXACTLY the same issues. The good: The birthday cake was pretty delicious. Getting a silver spoon was kind of neat, but unnecessary. The rooms are big. Now the rest... First, a word on the facility. While it's new, it's often ... kinda cheap. BOTH of the lights in the Dad's Corner, and one of the lights behind my wife's bed were burned out. We let them know on Wednesday and again on Thursday. When we left on Saturday around noon, they were STILL burned out. Housekeeping came in one time, on Wednesday when my wife was sleeping. They said they'd come back later, but we didn't see them again during the three-day duration of our stay. They never even came by after Catering spilled a soda near the door, and the lady notified them. The food was another issue. We found Bro-Menn's menu to be much, much better than we both expected. OSF's is much worse. Nothing on the menu was particularly good, the soups were watery, the hot meals were tasteless, and it was overall poor to average. All of this could have been forgiven if the nursing staff had been attentive, prompt, or personable. I would say three out of over a dozen nurses we had made a point of introducing themselves. Almost none wrote their names on the whiteboard. They dropped by as little as possible, never just checking in, and took their time getting back to us when we called. They even needed US to call THEM to remind them when my wife needed her pain medicine. At Bro-Menn, there was one nurse for my wife and one nurse for our kid. I've been told this isn't the norm, but I thought it was great - both patients got the needed attention. Here, my wife and our new son shared a nurse. As a result, I felt like our new son was basically ignored, honestly. A few incidents kind of stand out, but this is getting over-long. I'll just mention two, because they were the same night. My wife was (finally) able to sleep, and dozing soundly with our new son nearby. A tech came in and rather than check back later, she actually woke my wife up - whose vitals had been fine since the c-section - rather than coming back later. Either that same tech or a different one just picked our son out of bed to run vitals, too, rather than waiting until he was awake on his own. I don't know who it was - like I said, they didn't introduce themselves. I'd say three or four out of twelve-ish nurses were anything like warm or personable. Most of the rest weren't. New facilities and neat ads or not, I'd recommend staying away. We thought the staff was simply overworked because there were so many patients going to the shiny new center, but it seems like this is standard at OSF. We are never going back there unless we have to at this point. Bro-Menn gave us five-star care; the care here was one-star. I added 1 star for the rooms being huge and actually comfortable. In nearly every other respect, this was a 1-star experience we don't want to repeat. read more

I had a baby here 5 days ago. Everyone is pretty laid back...not in a good way. There are a couple nurses out of the bunch that are really nice and accommodating. The others were almost rude, as if I was inconveniencing them. At one point, I asked for pain medication and had to wait 45 minutes for the nurse assigned to me to come with it. Nurses Laura and Jen were amazing. Nurse Jan, I could do without. The others didn't even bother to introduce themselves. What? At one point, one nurse was barking orders and yelling at me for not being able to move (b/c I had an epidural) and told me that I wasn't trying hard enough to move my body...HELLO???? I just had a baby 2 minutes ago and now you're yelling at me for not being able to move my numb body? Atrocious. I was also disappointed because the new birthing center wasn't open. When I found out last year that I was pregnant, I purposefully picked OSF St Joseph to birth in the new birthing center. They told me a projected finish date of May. Then it was pushed to June. Then July...and now they're saying any day now and then some people are saying in August. Who knows at this point. The room I was put in had nothing in it. I had to ask the tech on duty for a table to put my food on. Another nurse brought me a table and chair for my family to eat at the following evening. I didn't know what furniture was standard for a room so didn't bother asking. Where I had my previous children, I had really attentive and friendly nurses that made me as comfortable as I could be. Here, not so much. Just Jen and Laura. The others barely noticed I was there. At one point, a nurse said, "You're so quiet in this corner. We didn't even notice you." Um, is it my job to bring to notice that I'm a patient there? I didn't know that was protocol. read more

Was in the emergency room on Friday, 6 day of June in the year 2014. I was brought in by ambulance because of sexual assault of myself. I had a very attentive nurse by the name of Claire. She made me feel like I was welcome and never left my side except to get a shower. She always asked if I needed anything to make me feel any more comfortable. As for my doctor, I had Dr. David L. Bogolub. He treated me with the respect that everyone deserves. He was prompt at trying to get me taken care of and get me on my way. He knows what it's like to be stuck in a hospital and didn't want me to be there any longer than I had to. I would recommend saint joseph medical center to anyone seeking medical attention. Worst hospital EVER! My sister has been here over 3 hours in severe pain and no one has come to check on her or given her ANY pain medicine. The staff is rude and the only person they sent in was the registration person to get her info! All they can tell us is they are busy. Well...they certainly found time to cover their own asses for registration but they can't find time to attend to a patient?!? How about that blanket we asked for over an hour ago? These people couldn't give a shit about anyone! Please, go work outside of hospitality if you only care about your job and not your patients. I will be filling a complaint and will take it as far as I need to. read more

Was in the hospital lab for bloodwork and they were very friendly and organized. I got to the chair in the waiting room and they were already ready for me. The food in the cafeteria is delicious, especially the chocolate cake. read more

We had originally planned to deliver at Bromenn because it was closer, but after planning to induce, we scheduled everything at St. Joes to be easier for our doctor. She had stated that the nurses station was better positioned, and that it was much easier to find help when you needed it. The day before inducing, contractions came, so at 11pm, just an hour before we were scheduled to arrive, we checked into St. Joe's. Lucky for us, since we were the 4th family to arrive under the same circumstances. Sarah was our nurse and she met us at the door. She did everything from checking us in, to getting us settled. The room was all inclusive, and we could tell that everything was going to happen there. Sarah continued with us, answering all our questions, and making us feel very comfortable. We thought things were going to drag out, after hearing how things normally go. Nope, the Dr. woke us up just after 3am and the magic was about to happen. Both our nurse and Dr. were great. Very encouraging, supportive, and left nothing to be desired. Without going on and on with more long details, all the nurses there were great! The facility was great. The only 2 things negative we could say about the entire experience were minor. The shower wasnt very hot, and the hospital food wasnt that great. In the grand scheme, we don't care. We have a happy healthy baby, and a great memory! We highly recommend St Joseph OSF! read more

I have never had such a bad experience at a hospital in my life as I did on March 17th at St. Joseph's. We were at a cookout for my brother's birthday when my sister suddenly started complaining about chest pains. She only had one bite of food. As I was driving her home, she got much worse and said she wanted to go to the hospital. The closest one was St. Joseph's. She started throwing up and almost couldn't make it to the door of the ER. The person behind the counter was not very concerned. He brought us into a room and took her vitals and then told the other nurse to trade with him. I guess he couldn't stand the fact that my sister was in pain and throwing up. We had to go to another room where the female nurse asked a lot of inane questions. My sister was freezing and her fingers were numb. She had a terrible pain in her chest that went to her back and they wanted to know if she felt safe at home? What kind of stupid questions do they have to ask? She gave my sister a cold sheet because she didn't want to be bothered by going down the hall to get a warm blanket. We get all these things taken care of and the nurse tells me to push my sister out to the waiting room! My sister is on her hands and knees in the waiting room in more pain than I have ever seen her! I ask the person behind the desk when she can get in and he had his leg up on the desk, flipping his pencil and said that it was going to be a long time. For forty-five minutes, my sister was in horrible pain and every time I went to the desk, they wouldn't do anything to help. I finally called 911 and asked for an ambulance to take us to Bro-Menn. When the EMT arrived, the person behind the desk ran out and said that there was a room ready for my sister. What a coincidence! When we complained to the nurse, she had the lady in charge come and talk to us. We asked her if a man had come in with the same symptoms, what they would have done and she said that they probably would have taken him back right away and put him on the EKG monitor. WAIT! If it was a man, he would have been treated differently? Women don't have heart attacks???? We arrived at the hospital before 8:00 p.m. and left at 1:30 a.m. Thank God my sister didn't have a heart attack, but if she had, needless to say, she would be dead by now. Unfortunately, they couldn't find out what was wrong with her. They didn't give her any medicine until midnight. Please be careful which hospital you go to with your emergency. Even if it says emergency room, it wasn't that way that night at St. Joseph's. read more

I was in the ER this evening after falling and hitting my head on the concrete. I waiting 3 hours sitting in a chair in a room for a doctor that came in for 5 minutes. He order no CT, was not even caring or pleasant in any way. The nurses were uncaring as well. Totally a bad experience. Use the other hospital in town. It can't be any worse. They are supposed to be some kind of magnet hospital. All I saw was a magnet for uncaring staff and shabby care. My deductible will be $400 for that 3 hrs of waiting and 5 mins of dr. time. My husband had need to use this facility by first going into the Emergency Room. He was treated quickly and professionally. He was hospitalized from the Emergency Room and was taken upstairs to the Critical Care Center. All of the staff there were extremely professional and courteous. Out of all of the hospitals me or my husband have been in, this is by far in the top three. The room was a private one, with a bench seat that someone could possibly sleep on. All of the medical professionals there were top notch! They didn't hesitate to explain things thoroughly. If needed, I will not hesitate to return to this facility! read more

If I could give this hospital 0 stars I would. My husband was hospitalized here after coming to the ER for pain last Sunday. A week later, he is still there. He has been misdiagnosed, mistreated, profiled and discriminated against. He has been left to lay in his own urine and feces for hours at a time at night when I could not be there. He has a crusty infected rash on his behind from it. I mentioned this to the nursing staff and just like every other issue, it was ignored. The rudeness of the staff is unbelievable. One nurse "Heather" told him he was diagnosed as an alcoholic (NOT TRUE) and then decided to dish out her own beliefs to him. I complained directly and in person to the nursing director who made up excuses for their staff and I haven't heard from them since! I've been there 13 to 14 hours each day and if I had not been he would probably have infections and additional issues. I have pictures of all of this!!! He has not been allowed to see his own physicians (they are not affiliated with this hospital) and the in-hospital doctor who is treating him is a joke. I've had to ask him to read my husband's lab reports 3 DAYS IN A ROW because he didn't even bother to look at them. HELLO???? If you love your family member, DO NOT BRING THEM TO THIS HOSPITAL.
