Pets and Aquatics

Very rarely do I go into pet shops. But never have I seen reptiles being available to buy from a…read moreshop. I know that sounds crazy but what I saw in this shop was a real shock I have to say. Children under the age of 16 will need to be accompanied by an adult to enter this shop. From snakes to lizards, these are some of the reptiles on show at Pets and Aquatics. The shop itself is small and there is not exactly much room to move about in. Because of this, you are actually quite close to the reptiles on show. Children under the age of say for instance eight could be scared by the reptiles featured in Pets and Aquatics so my advice would be not to take them. However that is just my view and parents still might want to take their children to see the snakes and lizards. There are however fish tanks to see so it's not just about reptiles. Not a bad place in my view and Pets and Aquatics might well be a place where you want to purchase pet food from.

This is a really good pet shop and probably the one I use most when I'm in North Birmingham. When my folks, who live in the area, look after our dogs, this is where we get their food. The prices are reasonable and the staff are friendly. There is a fairly wide pavement outside the shop, which means that you can pull on and load up with your supplies. If these spaces are not available then there are a couple of side roads where you can normally get a spot, although this does mean lugging stuff across the sometimes busy Hawthorn Road

The man that runs it is very helpful and gave us loads of advice on a few different animals that we have had, he even told us to pop back any time if we need advice. Being a city dweller and rabbit owner,…read moreI've found it's hard to get supplies anywhere in town and that I have to travel out to the larger supermarkets to buy things like hay and rabbit food. These stalls are really handy if I happen to be in town when the markets are on and save me a trip to the big Tesco. As well as food for most pets they stock a large range of bird feeders, padded dog and cat beds from £6, collars, leads, flea drops, shampoos, dog chews from 40p, cat toys which can be used for rabbits too and, if you have a big dog, you can get a ginormous bone for just £2 called a 'postman's leg'; that's value for money right there!

Because the centre of Birmingham is a capital wasteland and people don't like to be reminded about real life, like picking up dog shit when walking around there is a lack of pet shops. This one hidden in the rag market (well not hidden its massive) has got everything you need to keep your non-human loved ones alive. And if your low on money the dog food is cheap and tastes pretty good.

We used to pop here fairly regularly when our pet rats were alive. It was handy having a reasonably priced and no-nonsense pet food shop so close by. It is a fairly cluttered little shop, but you can buy various pet foods by weight. This means that you get better value than when you have to buy bulk bags from places like Pets At Home. Service is fairly friendly and they'll happily point you in the right direction if you get a bit bewildered by the sheer volume of choice.
