I came upon this place trying to find an artist's work I saw at ArtiGras (stained glass night lights) and was delighted to see all kinds of art pieces from a variety of artists (it's actually a coop where artists pay for space to show their pieces). Everything from hand-crafted to oil paintings to knitted colorful scarves. Also, the place is laid back and the prices are reasonable - not your pretentious gallery at all. Framing I had…read morerecently moved, and one of my pieces had the glass broken and needed to be replaced. I was searching for something local to get it repaired before more damage was done by the glass and found Palm City Art & Frame. I called over the and the super helpful guy on the phone advised I tape the glass first before driving it over, and walked through the various glass options that they had, and gave me some ballpark pricing. I popped over there a few days later to get the item repaired and again - the person working there was extremely knowledgeable about all the various pieces / parts that made up the frame that I had (it was extensively matted etc.) Long story short- they did an excellent job of repairing the glass, re-framing it and getting it back to me in a few days time. They also have a large selection of frame styles available for those of you who need to frame something and as mentioned, they really are great with what works, and what might not, with a particular piece of art. I had the opportunity to watch them interact with a customer before me and they waked them through the whole process: choose a frame style, matting, choices of colors, what makes it "pop" and what doesn't etc. Highly recommended and I will use them again. Founded in 1980, the Arts Council of Martin County, is a non profit located in Stuart Florida…read more Their mission is to bring the arts to Martin County through education and programs for students and the public. The run an annual two day ArtsFest in Memorial Park every February. A complete list of their events can be found on the cultural calendar posted to their website. The Arts Council offices are on the second floor of the restored historic 1937 Martin County Courthouse which has been turned into the Court House Cultural Center. They operate two galleries with rotating free art exhibits on the first floor. I recently visited the gallery for the current exhibit, Horizons A Retrospective Exhibition of Jim Houser & Dan Mackin. The Arts Council current venture is the SHS Arts Campus Project. SHS is the Art Deco 1923 Stuart High School. The class of 1964 was the last to graduate from SHS. In recent years the building has been used as the Martin County School District Administrative Offices and the Instructional Center for Education. All offices have now moved out of the building and the school board meets in the former auditorium. The Arts Council would like to save this historic building and turn it into multiple mixed-use venues which will include space for working artists, performers, lectures, commerce, and office space. You can see updates of the project on Arts Council website. You can help them reach their goal by supporting their various programs and leaving donations at the Court House Cultural Center.

Certainly, a great place to buy a gift for that special someone. Plus, the proprietors, Rosa and Marshal, are incredibly friendly and helpful, and support different grassroots organizations helping animals and families.

Festival season is in full swing in Florida and this past weekend was the 23rd year of the annual…read morecraft festival in Stuart which is held over two days from 10 AM until 5 PM in historic downtown Stuart. The street is shut down so crafters and artists can sell their wares. Admission to the festival is free. There were many tents selling clothes, jewelry, art, ceramics, food, plants, accessories, and so much more. You can also shop and dine at all of the businesses lining the street and there was live music by the water. Parking was free and a breeze and Kiwanis Park. There are also many other free lots in the downtown area. Stuart is one of my favorite cities because it is so quaint and picturesque. They were the perfect hosts for a such a family friendly festival.

The Port St. Lucie Museum and History Center opened to the public yesterday. It is part of the…read morebrand new Port District which has a new playground in Pioneer Park, and will soon have an outdoor stage and event space, tiki bar, beer house. pizzeria, taqueria, cafe, fire pit, waterfront restaurant, hiking trails through the conservation tract in the southern portion of The Port District , and the boardwalk along the St. Lucie River will extend under the Port St. Lucie Blvd. bridge adding 3,300 feet of pedestrian walkway along the river. The Port St. Lucie Botanical Gardens are next door. The Port St. Lucie Historical Society is now operating out of two historic houses have been moved to the property, the Peacock House, built in 1917, and the Peacock Lodge, built in 1952. The Peacock House was owned by Oliver L. Peacock Sr. and his namesake son, known as Sonny. They are among the founding fathers credited with the creation of Port St. Lucie. The Peacock family owned a 4,614-acre ranch in St. Lucie West. In 1968 the house was moved to the family's ranch on Glades Cut Off Road in Port St. Lucie and placed next to the hunting lodge that was built on the property in 1952. By 2006 the Peacock house was abandoned and in 2015 the Hunting Lodge was being used for storage. The city was about to demolish the buildings when the historical society stepped in and had them moved to their current location. In 2019 both buildings were given new foundations, roofs, and fresh coats of paint. In 2022 the Port St. Lucie Historical Society began renovations on the hunting lodge to turn it into a town museum. The Peacock Lodge has two rooms of exhibits on the history of Port St. Lucie, a meeting room, and a kitchen. I have been watching the restoration progress on these buildings over the past 5 years and it was wonderful to step inside the hunting lodge and see how beautifully it has been restored. There is no admission fee to visit but there is a donation box if you can contribute. I was even gifted a copy of "Port St. Lucie at 50: A City for All People" History Book written by by Nina Baranski and produced by the Port St. Lucie Historical Society. The PSL is hosting a dinner on October 16 at the Santa Lucia River Club. Tickets are available online. If you visit Pioneer Park or the Port St. Lucie Botanical Gardens stop by the new museum and support the Port St. Lucie Historical Society.

This year was the 21st year of the Annual Hobe Sound Festival of the Arts. It was held on Saturday…read moreand Sunday, February 5th and 6th, from 10:00am to 5:00pm. The fair is located on Dixie Hwy across from Peninsula Coffee and Chuckles along the rail road tracks. It runs from Bridge Road to Venus Street, Admission is free but they were collecting donations to fund local programs. The event is hosted by the Hobe Sound Chamber of Commerce and produced by Howard Alan Events. You can catch a free shuttle bus at the Pine School but I was able to find parking close to the festival on the side of Dixie Hwy. The art for sale included sculpture, paintings, artisan jewelry, photographs, ceramics, wood, metal, and textiles. All of the artists are available to discuss their work. The festival also had food and drink vendors and other people selling plants and flea market items. The Chamber of Commerce was selling festival T-shirts. I saw earrings as inexpensive as $5 to large scale sculptures that were many thousands of dollars. Of course I love anything with mermaids, sea turtles, and flamingoes. The art definitely leaned toward the tropical here. There was a lot of beautiful jewelry that caught my eye as did the carved birds and purses made from book covers. I really liked how there was a variety of items to choose from. This is a dog friendly event and well behaved leashed dogs are welcome. Aside from looking at the art, dog watching at art festivals is my second favorite activity. The weather was beautiful and it was so nice to enjoy the festival and fresh air. It is too late to attend this years festival but mark you calendars for this fun February event when it comes back next year for it's 22nd year.
