I would give zero stars if I could. To keep it simple as possibly, a very close friend passed away and we had his memorial service today. We all decided to go to Oscar's for a drink and food to keep the mood light. The bartender AUSTIN was rude and terrible, making comments like his day was better a few minutes before our group walked in. I asked for a burger with a double patty, he said it was fine and started to put my order in. I realized it was busy and didn't want to inconvenience them. I got his attention and nicely said "I'm actually going to just do a single Patty I'm sorry buddy." I got a response of "Oh my fucking god!" I LOVE the interior design of the facility with the lights and how warming it is in this extremely cold state. I LOVE the Shelby's and Ashley! They're amazing bar tenders! Needed a quick drink and bite after a Friday night Home Depot run. Stopped at Oscar's instead of Old Chicago because it is locally owned. We won't be going back. Fiancé had a water and I had a bourbon (Makers) to start. Bourbon was NOT bourbon and, never experienced this before, it had a rubber taste. I took it to the bar and they said it was because it was Makers 46. It was definitely not. She replaced it with regular Makers but acted like I was being a snob? It's Makers ffs!!! Then we added a sandwich (Reuben) and Cobb salad. No complaints on the salad, which my lady ordered, but the Reuben had 2 slices of 1 inch wide Swiss on each side. Ok so it's bar food and I'm ok with that. I'm not expecting Michelen stars. But then the waitress brought us our check and looked at my fiancé, who had minimal interaction with her, like she was a high school mean girl! Straight up grimaced with pursed lips! Wtf.... We will not be going back and suggest that if you want to go to a local bar- try anywhere else in Rockford. Lame. Sucked. Ruined my Friday night and maybe the worst experience I've had in Rockford. What a fun place!!! Their fish friends (baked&fried) are amazing and so many options on good quality fish. Yesterday we went for 1/2 price apps before 6pm, got mouth watering cheese curds and their wing deal (the bourbon are the best around)!!! About an average bar in a strip mall on State Street in rockford. There are hundreds of bars that look like this and nothing special about this place stands out. Most people in Rockford likely do not know of this bar on their Main Street and this is more of a restaurant than a bar with spacious seating but a generic industrial look I didn't try the food here but in the pictures it looks very good read more

I hate to post this but Cody the owner of the establishmen, drug user and drug dealer to make extra money for his family was very rude on Thursday night. Let me explain what took place...I have never had an issue before and have visited many times before through out 6 years of living in the area but on 6/20/24 I was treated in a disrespectful way by Cody. The regular bar staff even replied that they had no idea what was going on with Cody and that he was probably using drugs and was out of it. Cody went to the bar and printed out a receipt and told me to leave. Wow what just happened I replied? I paided my tab and walked out to my car and he walked out after me and shouted profanity at me. This updated review is long overdue. Oscar's has changed a lot since my first review. I went from barely going to being almost a regular there. The interior atmosphere has changed. They got rid of the fish tank and the fake fish hanging from the ceiling. The crowd has changed a lot too. It's now a bit more of an older more settled crowd. The food here is pretty good. One of favorite to snack on items is the cheese curds. They're just really good. I've had multiple burgers and sandwiches there and why it's nothing to brag about, they were better than average. What I really like is coming here for Football. It's great! They have a lot of TVs and the games will be on different ones. Then you can get one of their wireless speakers for your table so that if your team isn't the one they have the sound turned on to, you can still hear it. BONUS! They have different specials during the week and themed parties. We went to a Zombie Prom themed party the other night just had a blast. The service can be hit or miss, just like a lot of places. They have their good waitresses and their less than stellar ones. We have our favorites. I'm not going to say who because I really don't want everyone coming in hogging them! So Yea, Oscar's made some changes and I need to give them a couple of extra stars for the adjustments. read more

Well, I've been coming here over 14 years. I've always gotten the same thing. All you can eat walleye. A while ago they changed the breading. I hate it, but I just peel it away and all is good. Tonight we came in again and I asked, as I always do, "am I able to have it dipped in the Tempura?". It's sometimes yes and sometimes no. Waitress came back and said no. Hubs ordered all you can eat haddock. It came out in the tempura batter I love!!!! Mine was the nasty stuff that hurts the roof of my mouth. I was a little mad. Then I tasted my walleye. For the first time ever...2x a month x 14+ years...it was fishy and a little slimy. Not my bag. Who is doing quality control? Yeah...tonight was a total bust. We just got back from Florida and we needed to eat. I looked up some local fare here on YELP!. I'm glad I found this hidden gem!!! We started out with a creamy chicken tortellini soup, which was perfect for a cold Halloween night. We both decided to get the AYCE walleye. ABSOLUTELY SOME OF THE BEST FISH WE'VE EVER HAD!! It was fresh, crispy and hot. 3 beautiful pieces each on the first round. We didn't need to order more. I was looking for a place to watch a specific basketball game and when I saw all the TVs I knew I found the right place. They actually put the game on a majority of the TVs for me. So, a great sports pub venue. My food was really good (Bacon Cheeseburger with fries) and plentiful. My wife said her salad was ok, but it is a pub and grill after all. The atmosphere was lively, though a bit echo-y. It looked like they were setting up for a DJ later in the evening. Overall it is a fun place to go with good food. read more

Better than the club down the street.... This place was great...I'm guessing this was one of the only hottest bars in Rockford. It had alot of people on Saturday night. It was a bit crowded but it was not bad. The DJ and music was great. Security was a bit strict...he stop all the asian girls for a while because we all look so young. But we still got in. I have been here twice. The first time was for a girl's night out and the second time was on a date. The girl's night was freakin' awesome!!! We came in a group of three at 8pm on a Friday and there were two other groups there besides ours. There was plenty of staff on duty and service was quick and attentive. There was a DJ playing every kind of music you could think of and also taking song requests from the bartenders and patrons. We danced, played beer pong, connect four, darts and had a few drinks. I wasn't overly impressed with their beer selection, but they have plenty of tasty mixed drinks to choose from. There's something for everybody -- and at a reasonable price too! We didn't end up ordering any food that night, but agreed that we'd eventually return to do so. The date night here was almost the exact opposite. While the same DJ was there, it was too crowded to move let alone dance. They had taken away the beer pong, connect four and dart games -- presumably to make more room? -- so everyone was just sitting around doing nothing. Service was absolutely terrible. Our waitress didn't even know the menu or specials. Ordered a simple appetizer, waited an hour. Had to flag down the waitress for refills on our drinks and find out what happened to our food. She brought our drinks and told us our food was ready, they were just plating it up so it would be out in a minute. Proceeded to wait another half hour, flagged down the waitress AGAIN, only to have her tell us that the chef burned our food and was in the process of making it again. I didn't know making MICROWAVEABLE BREAD STICKS required so much skill. Are you freaking kidding me?!?!?! My 4 year old niece, who can barely read, knows how to make those correctly on the first try! I understand that mistakes happen -- I work in customer service too, it gets crazy sometimes -- but out of the whole crowd that was there (150+), only 2 other tables had ordered food. Everyone else was just drinking. Which raises a few questions.... 1) What the hell was the chef doing back there that could take long enough for bread sticks to burn? 2) If a chef can't even make microwaveable bread sticks on the first try, how is he/she going to make anything else? 3) Why weren't there more people ordering food? Has this happened more than once or twice?.. I refused to eat the bread sticks, but my significant other said they were worth the wait... An hour after eating them, he gets a stomach ache.... The waitress offered a very small discount ($4.00 off our total bill)... Which was fine since we left her a very small tip.... Moral of the story: 1) Eat before you come here. The food might taste ok, but you'll wait up to 2 hours for even the simplest thing and you'll probably get food poisoning. 2) If it's not overly crowded, this place is fantastic! If it is crowded, go somewhere else because service will be terrible and you won't be able to do anything but sit around and drink (which you can do in any bar or at home). 3) Beer selection is nothing special, but good mixed drinks, good variety, good prices and good music. read more

Saturday night: 8PM. We were meeting a group there, and they were accommodating several groups overall that night plus others. They take reservation, which is nice given that they were packed. The only ding I will give it, and it's a small one, is that most of the tables are High Tops, and circle, which makes larger groups just a little bit annoying. Second minor quibble, the bathrooms aren't as clean as I would like, but they aren't dirty... Also, kinda small given the size of the place, only 2 urinals and 1 stall..... (for the men) Our Server was named Randi. Randi was AWESOME! She has scored the biggest tip I think we have ever left at an establishment because she was just so amazing, so on top of it, and her attention to detail was bar none. This Randi, in case there are others, is this petite little girl, with the "white/blond" look. Her attention to detail was amazing, and if your local and reading this, just stop... Call in, see if she is available, and go head there now. Once your sitting in her station, you can continue on with this review.. 1.) We checked out the menu, it's fairly standard bar food, nothing above the wall crazy and all the prices perfectly reasonable. The ordering was done all at one shot, other than our drink refills, to allow us to mingle with our group, and allow Randi to be effective with her time. 2.) The order is as follows 4 Rum Buckets (we had ours made with Vodka, and OMG OMG OMG they were good. I think we sold about half a dozen more at our table because of our 4) 2 regular drinks Regular nacho skins (customized to have onions and peppers on the side) crispy shrimp dinner (freshly hand battered, I believe tempura) baked potato (shrimp dinner side) mac n cheese (shrimp dinner side) Mushroom and swiss burger Sweet Potato tots (burger side) Total with tax 68.52 -- Our tip was close to 50 percent, because she was that damn good! We tipped her 31.48 (bringing the total to 100 dollars with tax/tip) Now as to how she earned this tip, and how the place earned an overall glowing review. The rum buckets were ordered thru the statement of my girlfriends. "I want something fruity with alcohol, the rum bucket was suggested by Randi, and my GF swapped the rum for Vodka. These rum buckets were priced at 6.50 each. I found them to be a great deal at this price. Our skins were yummy, delivered with the appropriate modifications, and there are four very nice sized skins per order. Given that I have my bariatric procedure, I typically share with people. So we made mention that myself and a friend were sharing when we placed the order. We ordered the burger, and the sweet potato tots. The burger was good, and cooked medium rare as we had asked. Quite juicy and yummy, and certainly enjoyed every bite. The sweet potato tots were glazed slightly as well, but could be finger eaten, and were very delicious. Now mega huge brownie point, without being asked, Randi split the order of tots, and cut the burger in half presenting us each with out own plate. This has not been done very often at all without actually asking at a restaurant so this was a very nice touch indeed. My GF had the crispy shrimp dinner. I believe the shrimp to be hand battered and tempura style. The breading was reminiscent of sweet and sour chicken. We shared a few of the shrimp between the three of us, while my GF enjoyed the baked potato, and we all had at least a bite of the mac and cheese. The mac and cheese appears to also be home-made,or at least of high quality, because unlike "fake" mac n cheese, this stuff was hardening as we left it for too long, before finishing it, or trying to take it to go. The mac and cheese was very hearty and quite tasty. Randi kept up on all of our drinks promptly, and was an absolute pleasure. I am not a rockford local, but I can see myself making the drive, just to have the food, and especially Randi being our server again. read more

Worst bar in Rockford. I go here as little as possible because the waitresses suck. I was here with two friends once and we were completely ignored. The waitress would ask if we needed a drink, we would order, shed drop the drinks off and not come back. We had to keep getting up and asking the bartender for our drinks. When we didnt tip well because the service sucked she gave us a dirty look. The manager then came over and started questioning us on how they could provide better service. Never in my life have I had a manager come over and question my tip on a bill. I understand she was trying to inquire about how to provide better service, but it should be understood that the waitress wasn't doing something right. Obviously it was because she wasn't tentative. What the hell else would it be? It's not rocket science to provide good customer service. The drinks weren't made well either. They tasted like we were drinking water. We had to get up and ask the bartender to remake our drinks because of the fact they cheaper out and because of the fact that the waitress dropped the drink off and never came back. read more

What a good place! Great food, the server, Jayson(spelling?) was so helpful and accommodating and the 25 cent wings were some of the BEST, trimmed wings with a whole lot of meat on them. I came for a Sunday morning Bloody Mary for like $5 with there Bloody Mary bar that was packed to the BRIM with great toppings to go with my bloody mary, or anyones bloody mary, to their heart's desire. My bartender was Jayson and he was so accommodating and helped me find the perfect wings to go with my bloody mary in the Sweet BBQ sauce, which was seriously one of the best sauces I have ever had for wings. Jayson even let me help myself to their free popcorn and allowed me to take some home to my son. I honestly had a great experience at this Rockford establishment and I really am happy to see it have so many great deals, and craft beer, for a steal, not even a reasonable price- this stuff was affordable. I will surely be back and I will rave about this to friends. $.25 cent wings and a great bloody mary bar and great service--what else do you need in a bar? read more

This local bar is great if you want to get a drink after work or even get a group together to mingle or even enjoy a birthday party. It's usually not that crowded. If there is a Bears game or a Cubs game it can get a little busy. The staff is usually nice and the service is great too depending on how busy it is. I'm usually not one to eat more than wings a bar but this place has good food. They even have a Bloody Mary bar so you can customize your own instead of a pre mixed version of one. We went for dinner on a Saturday afternoon which happened to be during the $4/10 wings hours. It was me, my hubby, and another couple...a table of four. We ordered 10 of the Jamaican Jerk and 10 of the Bourbon Glazed bone-in wings. Wow! Let me tell you, those jerk wings were authentic tasting (we've been to Jamaica 4 times), and just the right kick! The bourbon ones were also amazing, not hot and nicely glazed. We all ordered the Prime Rib sandwich. This is also to die for smothered in provolone cheese, onions, mushrooms and horseradish sauce. Really generous portions and endless fries. Those lightly battered fries were also so good, I ordered a second portion. Of course, I had most of them, half of my sandwich, and a few wings to take home. The only reason I'm not giving Oscar's 5 stars is the mishap with our meal. The waitress came out one entree short, and my friend waited about 15 minutes for hers to come out. Apparently, they didn't have enough prime rib ready for all four of us. Rather than delaying all of us, someone decided to go ahead and serve the three and let the fourth sit without a meal. We received no apology for this. It worked out as we had ordered the same thing. I simply cut mine in half for her, and we shared. The when the same friend order her drink refill, rootbeer was given to her rather than cola. She does NOT like rootbeer. Again, no apology. Food too over a half hour to come out. My shrimp came out with 2 less than what it is supposed to have. My salad came out after my food. And my husband's Italian sandwich didn't have it's onios and peppers on it. I sat with and empty beer for 20+ minutes. And it took her 20 minutes to pick our card up. There was only ONE other table in there. I will say the manager (who didn't even have the nerve to come to our table) did take my shrimp and salad off the bill. This was a fun little place to watch Sunday football. They had all the games playing and we just ordered a bunch of appetizers. We had a bit of a struggle with our waitress. She was new so I will give her that but she probably only checked on our table once every hour even if our drinks were empty. I get that you don't want someone constantly checking but just making sure we don't need anything else. When our food came, she also didn't come back to check to see how everything tasted/if we needed anything else. If they can get the service down, this will be a great bar. read more

I have mixed feelings about this place. The food is generally pretty good, and the wait staff at night is pretty good. The lunch staff kinda sucks though. I visited today for lunch, and had the walleye. It was tasty enough but was ruined by the hairs I found in my food. Plural. Hair in my salad and my tartar sauce. Yuck. Instead of having a manager apologize or anything, which I would consider to be the norm when you have a food safety issue, she just brought a new salad. My previous visit I sat and waited to order and for refills while the entire wait staff sat at the bar eating and chatting. Is there anything worse than ordering your "Go To" menu item and it falling short of what you have grown To love about it. The Banzai wrap was this for me. Unfortunately after my experience with it today I'm not sure I'll ever be able to order again. The chicken inside the wrap was NOT EDIBLE. The wrap itself was fine once I removed all of the chicken, but how disappointing. I'll most likely remove this place from my lunch rounds. I would recommend this place but have to suggest you stay away from the chicken wraps if they are anything like what I ate today. Hopefully this was an isolated incident. The fries were good as usually and their peanut sauce is great! The Staff was attentive but not welcoming or personable. I love coming to Oscar's when I'm back home visiting the parentals. Granted, it is not a place where you come for the ambiance, but the drinks are cheap and food is great. They've pretty darn good drink and food specials. Their chicken wings are surprisingly pretty damn good and so is their cobb salad. Yeah, I said it, a cobb salad at a bar is mighty tasty. They boast a 8 feet build your own bloody mary bar on Sundays, which I keep missing since it is only available from 10:30a-12:30p. I wished they extended it longer since I always end up missing it.
