This was honestly the worst "care" I have ever received in a doctor's office. I was treated over a weekend, in the emergency room at LMH for a shoulder/clavicle injury, resulting from a fall. It was recommended that I follow-up with Ortho-Kansas on Monday. After 7 unanswered phone calls, and 2 left messages, I was able to speak with someone. I understand that Mondays are very busy, so I chalked that up as normal. I was just so happy to to be able to see a doctor that day, as I was in significant pain, and was hoping to better understand what was causing the pain... Fast-forward to the moment I met one of the physician's assistants. Upon entering the exam room, she stated, "I've seen your x-rays (from the emergency room), and everything looks fine". I tried to express to her, that I had additional concerns, including that the actual point of injury may not have been included on the original x-ray. At this point, she dug her thumb between my shoulder and clavicle - to the point that I was in tears. She did not ask me any questions regarding range of motion, strength, usage, etc., and there was no further "exam". I was basically told - in almost these words - that my shoulder may or may not be separated, I should expect to be in pain, and I should just move my arm as much or as I little as I wanted or could. I had approxmately 3 minutes of face-time with a physician's assistant, who did not even provide an exam, and was charged $119.00. Later that evening, I received an email from Ortho-Kansas, with the subject, "patient summary of care". The only infornation contained in this summary, was information I provided - demographics, etc. Under the heading, "Reason for Today's Visit", the form read, "No Information"... Under the heading, "Plan for Care", the form read "No Information"... And that pretty well sums it up! There was no reason for my vist with Ortho-Kansas that day! VERY disappointing!
I also realize that a whole practice should not be evaluated by the performance of one. And it does seem that many of the other providers at Orth-Kansas are professional, competent and caring. I also want to add that I had to speak with the business manager, regarding an insurance issue, and that interaction was absolutely positive in every way! read more
