The young ladies handing out the samples were friendly and so generous with the samples; they kept urging me to try different ones and, believe me, I didn't need much encouragement! I love nougat! I love the softer nougats with almonds best, but I also had some with pistachios and fruits. The best was the one with almonds and chocolate! The bars come in different sizes, so if you want quick and easy-to-handle souvenirs to take home, this might be it. I think the smaller bars were 3.95 Euros while the larger bars were 9.95 Euros. My friend purchased a large box of the round ones before she realized they had smaller boxes and they graciously allowed her to exchange her purchase. Service was very quick and friendly. Wish there was a shop like this near my home; I'd be there quite often!!

Originally founded in 1775 and still family owned, years of fame and intelligent investing allowing the company to expand into several International markets and styles of Nougat and Chocolate including a Sugar-Free line said to be indistinguishable from the real thing, it was just after 15h00 that the lengthy store on Carrer Provença was entered, a greeter at the door quickly leading patrons to a serving dish of four chopped treats, both the White Chocolate and Pistachio Block as well as Dark Chocolate and Hazelnut sort of like American Holiday "Bark" and pleasant enough while the hard and moist Torron were both very sweet, actually quite a bit moreso than Ramos or La Turronería Iváñez in Bilbao. Quite the operation, the company now with nearly three dozen stores including a Turron Museum outside of Lleida that many have said to be worth the drive, it was walking deeper into the space that guests found themselves tempted by Bars, Tablets and Chocolate Bon-Bons, a trio of samples from the ElBarri collection all delightful with the Gin & Tonic particularly well crafted and the Olive Oil filled version simple and clean while exaggerating the fruity flavors of the Cocoa. Picking up some gifts for others plus a few small bars for later it was finally en route to the register that eyes fell upon a package titled Gema Cremada, the Candy that is apparently quite popular around holidays without a doubt the most impressive thing tasted at Vicens with a creamy body made from Marzipan and Sugar beneath a brûléed exterior that helps to mellow the sweetness while also adding a remarkable texture that compelled the purchase of a weighty €7 package for the road.

Carlos thoroughly explained every single product in their store and answered questions like how everything was made, ingredients, quality, etc. We got to taste everything our hearts desired. I ended up buying a couple bottles of white truffle oil, hazelnut oil, date vinegar, and balsamic vinegar. I've never tried such a wide variety of oils and vinegars and trust me when I say this but it's going to be the best thing you've ever tried. Who the hell knew date vinegar existed? It's so sweet, thick, rich, and so delicious. I have no idea how to use it but I wouldn't mind drinking a spoonful everyday. Their balsamic vinegar seriously changed my life. It's so thick and so tasteful just on it's own. I need to throw out my market bought vinegar at home. Once you pick out what you want, you choose the type of bottle and size. If you're traveling, they'll seal the bottle and if you're gifting it, they'll wrap it nicely for you. Superb customer service! We were so hungry after shopping here, Carlos gave us some restaurant recommendations and even called the restaurant to reserve a table for us. He's so hospitable and awesome! This is a very old spice, nuts, and dried fruit shop in Barcelona's El Born district from 1851…read more Each time I'm in Barcelona I stock up on some spices and in particular their Herbes de Provence blend is the best of anywhere to be found. Coming from San Francisco, you just can't find anything as flavorful or fragrant as their blend. I'm not talking about those sweat shop bottles you get in the supermarket either, fancy spice shops in the Bay Area just don't deliver either. There's a back room with saffron that is unparalleled and quite affordable all things considered. Typically I'll grab a stash of stuff to take back and some nuts and fruits to eat as snacks for my visit. Really this is a gem not to be missed and if I were local, it would be my go to for everyday spices. Being a visitor, makes it more special to bring back which I do every trip to Barcelona.

Upon entering you'll see a huge array of nuts, chocolates, coffee beans and olive oils. It was actually kind of overwhelming. The two sales associates were very busy helping customers fill nut orders so I was kind of at a loss. A (what appeared to be) a random Catalonian couple took me under their wing and showed me around. Near the back of the shop there was a sign and a big oven that states that it's been in active use for 170+ years! and lucky for me he just roasted a fresh batch of almonds for patrons to sample. I don't think I've ever had roasted almonds so fresh and hot so it was definitely a treat! The couple said that they themselves ordered a bag full of roasted almonds that were cooled an hour and a half ago and asked if I wanted a bag as well - yes please! I got two small bags I believe for around €11 so I hope my giftees love them!

It's a more modern space inside with fresh seafood and produce stands alternating with spice purveyors and prepared food counters. All of it looked appetizing though there wasn't much seating on the premises. Through its various iterations in the atmospheric La Ribera neighborhood, the market has been here since 1848.
