The service is usually timely. But this particular service, the tech Erik, who 'spelled' his name out for me, moved some of my belongings.
I'd forgotten to move things behind a bedroom chair, so I told him I would move them. He said, "I already did." I told him I didn't see him do it. He said, "I'm quick like that."
We recently purchased a water distiller. While servicing the dining room, Erik suddenly dropped to one knee before I could realize what he was about to do, and began struggling to drag the distiller, which has rubber feet that were sticking to the floor, away from a corner plant he wanted to get behind to install a glue board. The water catching pitcher was still connected to the distiller and is plastic, so he could easily have broken the spout with all his unauthorized snatching.
Just as quickly as he started this battle with my distiller, I said to him, "What are you doing? Y'all aren't supposed to move things." He just kept trying and sounded frustrated that I said anything, continuing his struggle, even when I got down on the floor to move it for him. I literally had to say, "No! Don't do that. Let go of it. I'll do it!"
Needless to say, I found a very light dent in the side of it later (I'm the only one in my home who has ever touched it besides the Erik the tech), but it was a few weeks after servicing, so I didn't bother to report it. The distiller was about one week old and dent-free before the Orkin servicing.
I don't find Erik's behavior a reflection on the company at all. There are always going to be techs who do things they shouldn't and people who won't report them for the good of the quality control of the company. I am not that person. I am a good reporter whether the tech does a bad or a good job. My report is not personal, rather a professional for a company I respect. I owe that much to the company, so they can keep providing excellent service for many more years to come.
On their own ratings system, I gave the company a "9" which would have been a "10", but I deducted a point for the above mentioned encounter.
I give the tech, Erik, a "3" for his defensive attitude when I said things about what I wanted or did not want. It's my property. I have that right. I say to him, "Erik, it doesn't matter if you are quick if you damage the customer's property along the way. The property cost more than the servicing and I don't know about you, but I have to "save up" for everything I buy."
As it stands, I will continue to follow every tech throughout my home. I may even film the servicing next time. Everybody keeps it kosher when the camera is rolling.
