This is one of those little designer boutiques where the work studio is also the shop. This means you can watch them in action, but you can also ask questions about made-to-order items and fittings. These are designer clothes for plus sized women. I'm guessing there are not very many independent, plus sized shops out there in the world, let alone in Liverpool, so you wear plus sized clothes and you want something really nice, you should really check this place out and show your support.

Items stocked include dresses, t-shirts, basics, jeans, lingerie, nightwear, cosmetics, accessories and much more. The items are all quite fashionable but do not have the cheap appearance of the stock from some of the other less expensive shops. The clothing is quite inexpensive and there are often multibuy offers on items such as vest tops and basic tshirt tops. There is usually a good range of sizes on the rails and stock up to a size 22-24 which is better than many high street stores. The staff are friendly and helpful and work hard to keep the store clean and tidy. Things can get a bit cluttered when a sale is on but this is to be expected. This is a great shop for buying something for work or clothes for a holiday.

In terms of clothing, I would say the nearby branches in Manchester and Liverpool are obviously better but the selection is fairly decent if you don't want to commute into one of those cities. The staff seemed OK, although I've experienced better in probably half a dozen other branches of Marks and Spencer, yet this branch is certainly much better than some dire stores within their network including the London borough of Islington and Rochdale in Greater Manchester. The shop sells clothing, shoes, soft furnishings, homewear, gifts, etc. The clothing is, in my opinion at least, aimed more at the older shopper and I would expect most people without a bus pass to come away a bit disappointed. A couple of negatives as well. Firstly the building is basically a barn and really needs redecorating inside. It looks shabby which creates a poor impression overall. Secondly the reductions aren't as generous as you would expect in an outlet shop. For example the last time I visited I found some Ben Sherman T-shirts which had been reduced from £29.99 to £24.99, a saving of only £5. Overall it's OK for the older shopper but not great.

Since then it's had a makeover and having visited for the first time in years I can now report it's a very clean and modern looking buildings selling clothes for the over sixties. Actually there were one or two small sections of clothing for younger people, brands like Brave Soul and Lambretta, but only very limited ranges. And there didn't appear to anything for kids at all which disappointed my eight year old daughter.

Birkenhead now has a nice shiny new branch of Poundland which has opened in the former Peacocks…read moreshop in the Grange Precinct. I assume this will replace the old shop just up the road although at present that one's still open as well. This new shop is everything the old one isn't. Whereas the old shop is small, narrow and cramped this new shop is large, bright and with wide aisles so no more struggling to get around the shop if someone stops to pick something off a shelf. There's also a decent CD and DVD section at the back. Ok, so the CDs are reconditioned second hand ones and most are of a certain vintage but there are some mixed in there which are well worth a quid of anyone's money. Hopefully next time I visit Birkenhead I'll have a bit more time to have a proper browse.
