There are a handful of Asian markets in Baton Rouge, with a majority of them being Chinese and Vietnamese owned and operated. Oriental Market may be the only Korean one in town, with a good selection of Asian goods with more emphasis on Korean groceries. Owned by a sweet Korean woman, this little store only has a few parking spots and has been around for decades. The place is well organized and has a good variety of everything from frozen foods to sauces. Prices seem to be relatively low here, enough to give Walmart across the street a run for it's money (#1). I couldn't find any produce here nor any soju (Korean vodka), but I was able to find plenty of other things (kimchi dumplings, korean sodas, etc.) most of the other stores are unlikely to have. If I lived nearby, this would be my spot for Asian groceries. As much as I like Vinh Phat, it's closer to Denham Springs than it is to LSU. I so glad that I found this store in Baton Rouge. I just moved here from Atlanta, where the Korean population is huge and I have plenty of Korean stores and places to choose from. That's not the case here it appears. But the Oriental Market is a Korean owned, business that has mostly Korean products and I am grateful for that. The store is very small, but it has the essentials that every Korean boy needs. The owner was nice and helpful. I will definitely be back and am thankful it's here and convenient to my home. read more

So charming I can barely stand it. Such a tiny but welcoming and reasonably affordable place. I've been frequenting Oriental Market for years. For a while it was the only even vaguely close store to me that sold a variety of hi-chews (I spotted them at target recently) and ginger chews. I think the store does a good job of balancing item types to best use their small size. You can find some frozen food items, cookware, drinks (calpico yes god!), candy, tea, prepackaged meals, and condiments. The workers are very sweet. I'm literally the only white person I've ever seen there but they couldn't be more helpful whenever I needed something so please don't be intimidated by specialty grocers if they are new to you. You're missing out if you don't visit. Single item recommendation- honey ginger tea that's actually strong. Finally ginger tea with a real bite that I don't have to buy online. Korean packaging but it's got a picture of ginger root and a honeycomb on it so figure it out. read more

I've been here a few times when I was very desperate for some Asian ingredients, so this makes things convenient. However, the place is too small to hold everything, but it does hold necessities like noodles/ramen/udon, sriracha, dumplings, pocky sticks, etc. A little bit pricey, but I'm definitely not complaining (a box of bowl noodles, a can of soy milk, and a bag of chips for $14.08). The lady in there is pretty nice, but just a wee bit hard to understand. Boo to language barriers. At least she understood what I was asking her. Probably the only Korean market they have in the baton rouge area. Supplies all the ingredients necessary for some killer Korean dishes along with a variety of snacks and ramen for the days you don't feel like cooking. Clean and friendly staff. Private parking is also a plus. read more

I enjoy this little Korean store. I able to get several items we needed including chopsticks, kimchi, and sesame oil. They stock all of the essentials and a little beyond. They have a decent range of ramen noodles although I didn't see if they have a pork or beef free version. It is clean and organized. I will definitely be back and I highly recommend shopping here. Good store for your basic oriental necessities. I came here looking for an Asian broom. Do you know what I'm talking about? The ones that make life so much easier? Unfortunately they didn't have them. I guess they were out because my friend actually referred me here to get one. Instead I found that this store holds a great variety of noodles, some Asian green veggies and bean sprouts. Everything that I'd need to try to mimic my mother's food from home! Although a bit pricey, it's understandable since they are the only oriental market I know in this area. It'll save me the trouble of driving to the other side of town by just paying a little more. The store is very clean and the owner and workers are very nice and friendly. Eager to help with anything you hope to find. Good store!! read more

One of the best places over ever been to when it comes to Asian stuff, and much closer to home then any other store. The only complaint I have about it is that the prices are considered premium in the area, but I believe that it's due to the location. The selections are very nice and the products that they serve are in date. They also carry electronics such as rice makers and steamers along with frozen selections. They have full package noodles as well which you should check out if in the location. read more
