This mini-chain is very similar to my favored "The Grocery" up on Kingsland Road but I just so happen to be down by Spitalfields often enough that I've popped in to this market a few times for the (not-so) essentials. Let's face it, it's a bleak state of affairs down Commercial Street at Tesco Local. I can't even bring myself to go in there. The amount of plastic wrapping and pre-packaged foods just makes me want to barf, no joke. I just can't most of the time, I'd rather go anywhere else. So yes, while As Nature Intended is a bit pricier -- it's also a LOT nicer, has WAY better food things in it and if I want to pay 100 quid for a bag of (basically) snacks, so it shall be done. Sometimes one just wants to feel wholesome, right? Yes. Of particular interest here is their health and beauty section -- well stocked and comprehensive. They carry REN, which I adore and also full range of Wedela which I buy often for the little person in our house. The soups are great, and they have CO-YO (coconut milk yogurt) which is my favorite thing of 2015 thus far. Staff is friendly. You'll be broke but you'll be happy. To add the staff are super friendly and delightful whenever I visit, always displaying a smile on their face and asking if any help is required (it is always the small gestures that count). I can literally spend near to an hour browsing the nut butters, chocolate aisle and fruit pantry, and last but not least - they even provide a sink for you to wash your fruit and veg if you wish to consume it straight away. Also, if you are lucky you may be greeted with a sample of peanut butter or other tasty snack to help you through your shop. And if all that isn't enough to give you a healthy glow, there is also a juice bar where you can load up with a shot of health-boosting vitamins. It's a shame they don't stock fresh fruit and vegetables as that would really make it the perfect shop.

Many people associate Whole Foods with organic - which it is, but not everything here is organic. So you have to have that expectation. The prepared foods are top-notch. They are small but have many lovely organic products, milk and yogurt, beer and wine, cereal and pasta, fresh fruit and veg, even some foreign products like Thai curry paste and Japanese udon noodles. The sitting area for the cafe is on the upper floor, looking down on the shop, and I intend to try it out very soon--the coffee and pastries look wonderful. And if you want to grab some lunch near Finsbury Park there are takeaway sandwiches too.

The regular hop shop sells produce from castle farm and the surrounding farms. But during lavender season, they put up a second shop to cope with the sheer loads of visitors and all the lavender products on offer. They distill their own lavender oil on the farm and sell it as an essential oil and also as a cold or hot flavouring. Lavender products ranging from scented bags for your cupboards to some amazing lavender shortbread cookies are available for purchase. They also have massage sessions set in the middle of the lavender fields which get booked up very quickly. I'd love to return to pick our own pumpkins or apples later this year and if I'm in town for Christmas, I know where I'm picking up our protein from.

The premise is simple, a place which serves fat free frozen yogurt, and an optional topping of your choice. I had just returned from LA, where I had been introduced to the famous Pinkberry store, which operates on the same principal. I had loved what I had ordered there, and found it very good value for money. I had hoped for the same thing with Yogo, so ordered a small pot with an extra topping. This came to £3.00! the small serving is extremely small, and there was not a huge choice of toppings - about 15 or 16 different types of fruit and a few sweet things like granola, mixed nuts and coconut shavings. It just seems so expensive for something so small. a large serving with a couple of toppings will bring it up to about £5.00. Who can afford to spend this much on frozen yogurt? I went off feeling a bit short changed. I still had my pot when I walked into the health food store around the corner, and the guy behind the till asked my opinion of the place. I told him my gripe, and he said that a lot of people have made the similar complaint - that it is just too expensive. The fact that this place seems quiet when I have gone past echos this; I hope that the prices can be amended, because in principle it is a good, and healthy idea.

When I first saw their logo and chanced upon this place I thought it was a new yoga venue with a 'clever' name Since my first visit and having discovered more I'm not sure the Paris link is a major selling point but I am a fan of frozen yogurt and theirs professes to be organic and pro-biotic, with just 94 calories in a 100g portion. It's refreshing on a summer's day and a healthier alternative to traditional ice-cream; try it au naturel or go further and up-the-taste by adding a virtuous fresh fruit topping (berry, banana, kiwi or mango), if you're in an indulgent mood add-in chocolate chips, coconut, granola or mixed nuts. (The basic product tastes just like what it is - frozen natural yogurt without a huge amount of flavour.) Then again, you could simply come in here for an organic Fair Trade tea or a reviving Brazilian guarana-fruit bar. It's not the cheapest snack option around (a small portion starts at £1.85) but if you're looking for something cool, healthy and satisfying, it fits the bill in a relatively guilt-free way. You can take a break from your shopping exertions or riverside wandering and eat-in here at one of the simple white table settings or just purchase to-go. Staff are enthusiastic, helpful, patient and happy to offer suggestions or wait while you make your choice. I guess it will be the first in a line of several branches.
