Love the staff here and the bulk coffee area. The organic earth market has a coffee bean grinder you're able to use which makes buying whole bean coffee a possibility for me. But this is more than a grocery store, it's also features a delicious cafe! Some days I just crave a smoothie or a fresh juice and I know the Earth Market has me covered! Will say it's a little pricey but I find that's typical for any non-big box grocery store. read more

I often shop at this grocery store, they have the bulk organic products and lots of different supplements. I often find the price of same products that you can find at regular store much higher there. You will find other things that I have only seen there. There is a problem that is hard to find prices and sometimes they don't match the product on the shelf. I have bought flour at bulk section that was rancid. So now, I only buy products I know that rotate. There is one thing that is bothering me for a while and I hope they change it soon. Regular grocery stores are trying to ban the plastic bag, today I saw them offering not only the grocery bag made out of plastic but they put fliers inside each one of them. Is this store called organic just for profit or there is a philosophy behind? Please use paper bags instead and encourage less trash, no fliers and paper bags for bulk section. read more

I just deleted a long negative review because I happened to have had a bad experience today with a very snooty and condescending staff member. I deleted it and will take the high road of assuming it was one bad employee on one bad day. Here's hoping that customer service is back to normal next time I stop in. Organic Earth has lots of great products you might have a hard time finding elsewhere, especially if you want small quantities of bulk special flours, nuts or grains, etc. They are a bit pricey but the convenient location is hard to beat. read more

I've bought quite a few items here as its the only place in Halifax I can find certain items I like. They have some interesting products I've never seen before so it was interesting looking through the store picking up some items I've never tried, and usually they're all very good. The prices are definitely a lot more than similar stores I used to frequent while living in Ottawa, but I guess thats not atypical in Halifax. I get the feeling Organic Earth put effort into scoping out products that are environmentally friendly. The reason I'm giving it two stars is that on two separate occasions I witnessed both a cashier and the organic earth facebook page promoting an anti-vaccine website. As much as I appreciate and agree with, the need for awareness of carcinogens and by-products in what we consume, sharing conspiracy theories about vaccines to customers about why vaccinating your children is "what big pharma wants" isn't the way to be health conscious. They also recently posted a sketchy anti-vaccine article on facebook. For a store that seems to try to promote health conscious products they're doing the opposite. I'll stick to ordering things online. read more

We went shopping today for the first time at this organic store and was shocked to find out that our car wheel was locked when we came back to our car. So I would strongly advise people against shopping there. We are new to Halifax and was so excited to find the store, but it cost us $100 plus our groceries! read more

I used to shop at this store because of the selection and the fact that there were really not many other options, but will definitely not be returning. Upon entering, you can smell that the environment is not clean, and something is just not right...and after a recent trip in I now understand why...as I witnessed a rat scurry across the floor and saw rat feces on a few of the products I picked up off the shelf. Now I know what that smell must be! Please be cautious if you're going to shop here and consider other options. I don't know how they're still able to be open to the public with this problem. read more

If I ever win the lottery, I'll shop here every day. Good selection of organic produce. Great selection of supplements. If you're a vegetarian or especially a vegan, this is easily the best (if not only) place in the city you can expect to hook you up. Naturally, (no pun intended), it's a specialty store so their prices are high but what are you going to do? Nothing bad to say about this place, Halifax is lucky to have it and I don't mind spending a bit extra. They even have a cool bulk spice section! read more

The Vegan section is still good but they sadly don't have someone running it anymore so therefore not a lot of new exciting products have been coming in. I had a better-than-expected experience here. I haven't been in several years; my last visit the place was smelly, run-down and just a general mess. I'm glad to see things have changed for the better. Very good selection of local, vegetarian, vegan & GF items. I found a very good selection of GF flours, as well as samosas and veggie burgers. Prices are what I would expect to pay for specialty items. The cashier was very friendly and engaged. And fortunately, no boot on our car when we came out. ;-) We will be returning. read more

This store has the worst customer service every time we go there. The new owners have never been able to give the level of service that was available at Planet Organic which is what this place replaced. We went today and asked for help in finding an item. The girl said she would get us a salesperson and she did page someone. No one showed up .......and we waited.........and still no one showed up.......and we left. Sadly there are not a lot of choices in Halifax for organic markets so we end up shopping here for items. If there was a well stocked alternative, we would go there. read more

I was overcharged for half a dozen cosmic cookies by Daniel and he was apprehensive about applying the half a dozen price so instead he charged me individually for each cookie. It's all good, I would of appreciated him asking someone about it instead of overcharging me. Most of the workers there are awesome. I was a regular customer of this store for ~ 23 years in its various incarnations from Great Ocean at Vernon St, to Planet Organic and now Organic Earth. My family also gave many thousands of dollars of business to the veterinary clinic next door over the years in their various locations. Yesterday I had a terrible experience that ensured I will never give them my business again. I parked in the lot with my family. I went int to the store to buy samosas while my partner helped my son out of the car. There was a long lineup up the cash register, and he were also planning to get a coffee to go from Anchored Coffee across the street, I decided to buy the samosas on the way back. We went and got our coffees from Anchored, and on our way back, only about five minutes later my partner noticed that there was a pink marker attached to our car and a notice on the car window; on closer inspection we realized that they had put a boot on our car. The notice indicated that we were required to pay a $132 dollar fee to release the car. They've farmed out their parking lot to the sort of extremely aggressive company, essentially legalized criminals, that makes a killing by preying on people who park there and step foot off the property for even 1 seconds regardless of how long they're parked there or whether or not they are doing business with at the vet or Organic Earth, according to the lady who removed the boot. $132 poorer, we left with the certainty that we'd never do business there again. read more

I shop organic regularly. Not for health reasons, but more for sanity reasons. The section is smaller in the grocery store and I hate grocery shopping. I wish I liked grocery shopping because I have to do it so often. I wish I could go clothes shopping and just live on that. If you know anything about how the human body works, you know that's not possible, so here we are... in the organic section. I like having my 'milk' and cereal really close together so I can get in and out. Also, organic is better right? Or so they say, and I believe it. I've been into this grocery store a few times as my best friend lived across the street and it was convenient. On this day I was killing time and went in looking for dinner supplies. I like that they sell items from local bakeries and companies, I also like the size of this location and that it offers all types of organic options. Aside from food it has a large makeup section and shampoos, soaps, that kinda thing. I lived in the states for a short period of time and got use to shopping at only organic grocery stores. They're a bit more affordable, and huge. Which we have learned, from this review, I am not a fan of. I wasn't looking for anything specific so it was easy to find things to pick up here. Since it is pretty small, if you're looking for a specific item and are unsure if they sell it, chances are they probably don't. I found the selection small, but, you know I'm into that kinda thing. This store has gone through a few owners in the past few years and, sadly, it's never been the same as when it was Great Ocean. For awhile there, about 6 months ago, I thought it would settle down into a nice place to go even if it was expensive but today was a shock. It was like there was a whole other, lazy, impolite crew had taken over. The store was almost empty but I chocked it up to the rainy day. Now, I'm not so sure. I wandered around the store a little bit and *was* asked if I needed help but gone are the days when the employees really seemed to want to help! One surfer-looking dude asked if I needed help but it was obvious he was on his way to somewhere else and could have cared less. I was later checked out with my purchase by him and he wouldn't get off the phone with a personal call during the woman in front of me's checkout. When it was my turn I had to ask him to get off the phone because he started scanning a bottle I was returning which had the receipt wrapped around it! He called another guy over to do the return with not even a glance at me. That next guy wasn't really listening to what I was saying and just opened the whole bottle up but at least he credited me with the purchase. I couldn't exchange it because they didn't have another one. The reason I was returning it was because it had been very slightly opened, most likely by someone who wanted to smell it. It was an oil and required refrigeration once opened. The other person who asked me if I needed help was a cute young thing who could've cared less. It was apparent she was asking because she had to. I don't know. The whole experience was completely different. Like a whole other crew had hijacked the store. After reading reviews about the store booting cars, I'm guessing it's been sold again. It's a shame because Halifax does not have much competition in the health food arena as it is. The store does look beautiful with all the new refrigeration units, etc. but I miss Sterling and Great Ocean. The store is just too expensive to have to put up with rude behaviour. I'll be buying more online. :( read more

Very disappointed in Organic Earth Market. Recently I purchased a Tonica Scoby from this store. After following the instructions to the letter, I discarded the packaging. After a week, I found heavy mold growing on Scoby. Being rotten, I tossed it in the trash. I took my receipt to OEM in hopes of getting a new Scoby. The first question I was asked was. "Do you have the product?" Well no. I didn't feel that I needed to bring in a rotten Scoby. Well, we can't do anything without a product. Well, it's in the trash! Sorry, too bad. Well I've got the receipt that shows I paid! Sorry, too bad. At that point the weekend manager got very curt and ugly with me. Now I have been a long time customer at OEM. And I can't believe I got treated this way. So you saved 25.00 bucks. Congrats, you just lost hundreds. Poor customer service. I'll take my business elsewhere read more

This is the worst health food store in the city!!!! I used to shop here all the time when it was Great Ocean....it WAS an incredible store with incredible staff. Each new owner has been worse than the last. The only time I go there now is if I can't get what I want anywhere else. I will no longer shop here after seeing what I've seen on my last trip to Organic Earth. I have been shopping here for many years and love the products they sell even though it is hard to keep track of when they are in stock. On my most recent trip to Organic Earth Market this past weekend I saw not one but two RATS. I saw them by the produce and energy bar. And if that is not bad enough before leaving (and not buying any groceries) I decided to use the restroom. Once sitting in the restroom I could hear little footsteps and squeaks what I assumed to be from rats in the ceiling tiles. Many of my friends shop here and one of them has also said that they've also seen a rat near the energy bar. If the rats are this brave they must have been there for quite some time and clearly the owner is a capitalistic cheapskate who couldn't be bothered to shut the place down for a few days and get rid of the problem. The location and terrible owner means this place will continue to suffer from a huge rat infestation and eventually lose all its customers. I reccommened to stop shopping there now before its too late and you bring bread home with rat feces on it. read more

Went to get a smoothie for lunch. Paid $8 for a tiny below average smoothie. You should be ashamed to charge that much for such a small portion. Petes smoothie are the same price but at least double the amount. The check out line was moving so slowly I was blow away, so I just put my over priced garbage back on the shelf. Btw I'm not just some impatient A-hole, everyone in the line was visibility frustrated. The clerk made no conscience effort to read the mood of the customers, just lost in a patchouli dreamlike state. I just was in the US and went to a Trader Joes to grab lunch and it make this hackney store look like a pack of amateurs. I've eaten here a few times and have left in various states of unsatisfied disappointment. Either the food wasn't that good or the price was outrageous or both. Give your head a shake. I'll never set foot in this scam hole again. Oh and they respond to criticism like a 8yr old child. read more

Today I have received a worst customer service experience by a hippie looking girl who works there. When I finished paying my bill I saw that groceries are not placed in a plastic bag. I stumbled and asked her "Don't you pack the groceries here?". At the moment she was drinking water which is already unacceptable when customer is still there, but she responded "What you cannot pack it yourself?" I was shocked and regret that I did not speak with the manager right away but gave them a call when got to my car. I doubt this girl will be fired or be shown where her place is. I am a business owner and if my employee treated customer like that they would be fired in a second or at least given very harsh talk. UNACCEPTABLE! If you want to be treated like you worth nothing go to this store. Overpay for their products but also pack your bags, and be told by hippie girl " What You cannot pack it yourself?".
