Ok, let me start by saying this: I grew up in Philadelphia. My family was from South Philly. I now spend most of my time in the Georgia, but come back to Philadelphia just about every week. Philadelphia is not the Philadelphia. I grew up in. It's nasty and angry and ugly and it seems that nobody cares about doing a good job or providing a good service. The exception to my recent experiences in Philadelphia is the Oregon Diner. From the gentleman who seated us, our lovely and friendly waitress, the spotless dining room, delicious meal, and prices that are more than fair, everything in the Oregon diner was wonderful. To help make my point, I have never in my life, eaten a side dish of spinach that was more tasty. Spinach. Who puts that much effort into a side of spinach? The Oregon Diner Chef, that's who. The French Onion Soup and burger were tops too. I cannot say enough good things about this place. It brought me back to the South Philly I remember from my childhood. From the moment we walked in and got to our booth we met Mary Beth our server and she was fantastic!! The place looks very spotless clean and everything looks wiped down. The menu is plentiful with many different choices. Everybody seems they really be enjoying themselves and there's a nice of conversation, but it's not overly stimulating and loud to the point where you can't hear yourself think We just placed our order and I look forward to trying the menu items that we ordered. We're gonna split a stack of blueberry pancakes and we're both getting an omelette and I'm really excited for the flavors and the delicious meal that we are about to enjoy. Haven't been here in ages and decided to stop by while dog sitting in the area. Close by with a nice big parking lot, plenty of seating and menu options. I was immediately greeted when I walked in by the cashier and hostess. The hostess then lead me to the seating area and asked where I'd like to sit, which is always nice. My server came promptly and took my drink order, and came back quickly to take my food order. She was efficient and knew the menu well, but was rather curt. I was planning on ordering some pancakes after my entree but she never came back after dropping off the food, except to bring the check, which was the only negative on my visit. Went with a western with American, it was fantastic. Nice chunks of fresh veggies, perfect hash browns, and rye toast on the side. Returned here after probably at least a year away, since moving to the next county... but revisited for an anniversary. It looked as if they did some renovations, though was way less packed than I remember... and on a Saturday. May have been because there were a lot of events going on in the city or because of the new buffet that opened up nearby, but I was impressed that their prices remained affordable and didn't go up like some other places with the current economy. read more

We're on our way to Wilkes Barre for a concert and stopped for brunch. Mixed emotions because of our now deceased married (practically 2nd) parents. This was "their" diner, that they frequented DAILY for breakfast! Some really kind staff came up to us with condolences and just to say hi. Very sweet and appreciated. Everything was wonderful- fresh "real" oj, eggs, breakfast sandwich and French toast. Their baked goods looked out of this world, but I passed, due to binkini season rapidly approaching! This was the worst food I ever received from the Oregon diner. My husband ordered a corn beef special and received a Rubin that was over cooked. The server did not get it right, and the cook did not get it right. I ordered a Monte cristo. I received that with lunch meat boiled ham. Instead of a piece of ham, the French toast tasted like it was cooked on a dirty grill. In my 50 years of going to the Oregon diner, that was the absolute worst meal I've ever had. We were offered the worst table: by the door, which is next to an outside waiting area that smells extremely strongly of cigarettes - I felt like I smoked a pack just walking into the diner. We declined the table and were seated elsewhere. Got a sausage and spinach panini with fries, pancakes, over-easy eggs, scrapple, orange juice, and coffee. Hard to believe it's been 10 years since I was last here. Got a sausage and egg platter with toast and hash browns for dinner on a Wednesday evening because I'm fancy like that. I was also in a cheap protein mood. It came out in 12 minutes. And everything was pretty good. The toast was a little burnt but I've had worse. It was straight up decent diner fare. I will also add that the guy near me at the counter got chicken pot pie that looked heavenly. And it came out in like 5 minutes. I kind of regretted my decision after seeing that. Now the menu said $7.55 for this platter. I should have known it was too good to be true because they wound up charging me over $9 at the counter before tax and tip. That's life nowadays I guess. I've been coming to Oregon Diner for the better part of the last decade and honestly it's one of my favorite places for a quick brunch! You walk in and are always seated promptly, with a server coming to grab a drink order within minutes. The menu is huge and has all your favorite diner dishes! Get ready for giant portions and delicious food! Diners can be hit or miss but this place has fantastic food. The portions were much bigger then we were expect and had plenty of leftovers. The service was pretty good and we were well taken care of. The restaurant is pretty large so we had no wait and got a comfy booth. DO NOT RECOMMEND!!! We used to come here every Saturday to eat. The food isn't that great at all, but it's close to our business and we enjoyed coming there to eat and talk shop. Today, however, my business partner was ASSAULTED. He is 85 years old and wears hearing aids. When the hostess went to seat us, she placed us in a section with a crying baby. My partner said, "Ma'am, do you mind if we sit in another seat so that we don't have to..." (word for word). She sat us in a different booth without issue. A moment later, another waitress stormed over to us and told my partner that he was rude and disrespectful for what he said. All of us thoroughly confused, he asked her to repeat herself. She again called him rude and began to raise her voice, drawing the attention of the staff and patrons. At that moment, we got up and decided to leave, citing our right to not be insulted. At that moment, another man (presumably the baby's father) approached and began to verbally assault my 85 year old business partner. He began yelling, cursing, and got into my partners face, claiming that if he ever said anything like that again he would put his hands on him. My business partner calmly replied, "okay then, do it", at which point the man became confused, then told him he wasn't worth it and stormed off. I have no idea what the waitress and the child's father thought that he said. The hostess never took issue, and she was standing less than 2 feet away when he spoke. What troubled me most is that the rest of the staff watched everything go down without any attempt to defuse, sort out, or otherwise mitigate the situation. They just stood there and stared along with the other patrons. No apology, no attempt to make anything right. No sense of responsibility to try and deescalate the situation. This speaks volumes about their character and potentially the way you may be treated if you go to this establishment. DO NOT RECOMMEND!!! read more

She is a joy to see and always brings a positive energy to my visits. I've been coming to the Oregon Diner for over 20 years, as I live nearby and visit often.
