We are blessed to have them here in Waldport and the surrounding area. I actually enjoy my visits to the bank and the conversations I have with those who work there. Last year one of our bank accounts (we have six checking and one savings account) was hacked for several thousand dollars; the staff at 1st Security was very understanding, helpful, and proactive in uncovering the fraud and getting our money returned to our account. I opened an account at Oregon State Credit Union a few years back and then never used it. Turns…read moreout, after a period of inactivity, they will charge an inactive account $10 a month until all the money is gone and then close the account. I recently went into Oregon State Credit Union to break down some larger bills into smaller bills, thinking I still had an open account there. They refused because my account had been closed. So, in the simplest terms, my entire experience with Oregon State Credit Union was this: I gave them $25 to open an account, they eventually took the entire $25 in "inactivity fees", closed my account, and then refused the only service I ever asked from them. I'm sure the inactivity fee was disclosed somewhere in the paperwork when I opened the account. However, I've had free accounts at banks and credit unions for more than 40 years, and I've never had one slowly take the money in my account through inactivity "fees" and then close it when the balance reached zero. Maybe it's permitted under their account terms, but that doesn't make it a practice I consider reasonable or customer-friendly. In my opinion, charging an inactive account month after month until the balance is depleted feels predatory. It's especially disappointing because I've generally had very good experiences with credit unions. This one was definitely not among them.

Walgreens down the street sent me here when they couldn't get it for me. I walked in and Emmi, a personal banker at this branch, greeted me and asked how she could help then told me I could stand in line while she figured out where I should stand. She came to the line and pulled me aside very professionally and asked if I was a member. I said I wasn't. She apologized and said that apparently they could only do them for members. I explained I was frustrated and that Walgreens had just sent me over. She asked if I had a minute then called another store in town for me to see if they could help me. She confirmed the details then have me perfect directions to the store. They indeed were able to help me. I am a credit union member not a bank lover. But this experience alone impressed me greatly. The customer service and care with which she handled my situation was awesome others could take lessons from Emmi. I hope US Bank realizes the asset they have in her.
