Despite me "making" them go, we all had a great time and picked 3, ate one, picked 3, ate one and so on and so on and so on until our bellies and our boxes were full of berries. At this visit (mid-July) there were many varieties of red raspberries, blueberries, and yellow raspberries ($3/lb), a bouquet of flowers (50 cents to $1 a stem), and the freshest green beans ($1.50/lb). Other veggies and herbs were also available. The garden is surrounded by rolling hills and backed by snow capped mountains. Just beautiful! Less than 30 minutes outside of the city, but a world away.

I was pleasantly surprised, if not shocked, by the beauty and country feel given the proximity to Portland: farm after farm for 4+ miles to the destination after crossing the bridge to the island and the long extended view of farmland as I walked the fields with the beauty of the Forest Park trees as a backdrop: not bad at all! The operation was well organized and staff was informative of what was available, and where to find the best bounties. I found that they had a variety of raspberries and they were truly differentwith regard to taste. I have gone berry pickin' for over 40 years and have sometimes found the berries to look great but be bland on taste. Their raspberries both looked good and did justice to the look with the taste. As for price, I found the price to be extremely fair. All in all, a great hour plus of pickin' fantastic raspberries.. In addition, the kicker is the farm offered an additonal benny on this particular day: from 6-8 pm two members of the Portland based bluegrass band Whiskey Deaf performed for free at the gazebo on property.

There were several activities to do here besides pumpkin picking. The staff was nice as we were greeted with friendly smiles. The admission price is $18 at the entrance. It's $16 online, but you have to reserve a time slot. Children under two years old are free. I don't go to farms regularly so I don't have much to compare to it. We visited on a weekday, which wasn't too busy. It was mainly made up of school field trips. It was an enjoyable fall activity for my toddler. He was too small to fully enjoy the big slides and other playground areas. He still had fun seeing the different types of pumpkins and farm animals that he recognized from his books. He liked running around and going through the tunnels. There was a corn maze and carnival style games without the prizes. There was also a hayride, which you can also use to go to the parking lot. It's not a long walk to the parking lot, but it's good to know it was an option. There's a store if you want a souvenir or some apple cider. I forgot to take photos to post with this review, but I guess we were just caught up in the pumpkin patch fun. Seeing my son's happy face and hearing his laughter were worth the price of admission for me.

***Updated review after going to this farm for pumpkin season***…read more During Christmas time, you get to explore the grounds without paying an admission, but for the fall season it's $18 admission per person at the gate or $16 if you purchase tickets online ahead of time. There are a few more activities included during the fall season, but most require an additional cost anyway. For example they have pig races and pony rides on the weekends, but the pony rides cost $9. They also have apple and pumpkin cannons, but they cost $5 each. There are some activities only available on weekends, but if you're trying to avoid crowds and go on a weekday, admission costs the same. And on top of all that you still need to buy the pumpkins that you pick out. And you need to buy some pumpkin donuts before you leave (do not miss out on these donuts!) So, while I love this farm, it can turn into quite an expensive day depending on how many people you are coming with and which activities you choose to do.

We…read morewanted the freshest possible tree because we like to keep them up until 12th Night, and it seemed like the best way to do this was to have one that was in the ground the day we took it home. We were concerned because I've never cut a tree down, my knees aren't great, and I didn't know how much crouching and lifting I would need to do. I didn't need to worry! They gave us a business card with their phone number and directed us to the area where the type of trees we were looking for were located, and told us to call the number when we found it. They then drove an ATV up, cut & loaded our tree in, and drove us back down. Once there, they shook and baled the tree for us. I was happy that it was such a fun and stress-free way to get the freshest tree that fits our house AND fit in my hatchback. I highly recommend Hughes Family Tree Farm for both people who want the Full Family Tree Cutting experience, as well as those who just want a better, fresher selection than pre-cut tree lots.

We got to pet the 2 miniature horses which was my favorite part. The kids had a blast petting and playing with the goats. They are all so friendly and have loving personalities. I could have stayed all day. The happy come straight up to you and asked to be brushed and sit in your lap. Then you get to let the big huge pigs and feed the male goats. Lastly we got to feed the piglets. The property is well maintained and all the animals are loved and clearly happy. I would 100% recommend and will do it again. We all had a really fun time!
