    Combo platter starter :-)
    Conor L.

We got a combination starter, which was really good, and a fixed 3 main course dishes for two people consisting of; 'The Beef Fillet Cantonese style', which was good. 'The Szechuan Spicy Chicken', which was good. 'The Crispy Chicken in Salt and Chilli', which was ok. We also got 'The Crispy Monkfish in Japanese Teriyaki Sauce on a Bed of Asparagus', which was really really good :-) The staff were very professional and the restaurant was very clean. It is a white tablecloth, formal dining restaurant.

We went on one of our "lovely evening walk" walks. When we could literally end up anywhere. And we did! Moseying up Baggot Street Upper, we eventually happened up Orchid Szechuan on Pembroke Road. I remember this place being under a different name from way back when, but I had never been. We'd not had a Chinese meal in ages and gosh knows it's difficult finding a half decent Chinese in Dublin. Cue Orchid Szechuan Restaurant. Quite typical decor for an upmarket Chinese in Dublin, it was a tad dark inside but with lovely Asian floral murals and pristine table settings. We started with the pork and crabmeat dumplings, which we shared. These were excellent. Really delicious, but came with a fantastic chilli oil that really complimented the dumplings. It had a good kick to it as well, the oil. For the main course I had the crispy chilli chicken with steamed rice, as is my wont. And it was really great, I demolished it. My hubby went for a combo main of prawns with cashews and crispy chilli chicken, also with steamed rice. This also was demolished. We complimented this with a Trulli Pinot Grigio, a staple house white on the Dublin restaurant circuit at the moment. Staff were very attentive, everything arrived in good time. They did inform us the dumplings did need 15 mins prep time, which was fine by us. However they were a bit too attentive topping up our wine, which is a little pet peeve of mine. It was a great dinner, but the jury is still out on if it was worth 83 EUR for one starter, two mains, two steamed rices and a bottle of house white. However, they did give us a generous basket of lovely prawn crackers, with the offer of a refill on it. We will be back though. Definitely worth trying again methinks.

I have gone here many times with my office for lunch and the food is lovely. The staff are great - they always greet us as if we're regulars, even though we only eat here every few months or so. They do a great lunch menu - 3 courses for about €17. I love their butterfly sesame prawns and the last time I went I had beef in black bean sauce. It was great - really tasty. My only fault with this place is that it's so dark - you kind of feel like you're in a cave or dungeon, or some place equally dark. You almost need sunglasses when you go back into the daylight!

Ordered takeout. Food was mediocre but they are open late. Shrimp was soggy. Too much char siu in some of the dishes. Ribs were dry.

And I can't just come here and try one dish so of course I ordered far more than I can eat. Regrets? None. The Spice Bag was definitely delicious. The savory bites of crispy fries/chips and chunks of fried chicken tenders/chunks was a gut bomb bursting with that delectable asian flavor. I had to get the pickled cucumbers to help balance out the savory overload. Xian Famous Biang Biang noodles was my favorite though. So glad I ordered this dish! The hand-pulled noodles were pure perfection from the texture, thickness and flavor. The Chicken Satay was just ok. Good but outshined by the Biang Biang Noodles and Spice Bag. The lines can get pretty long here however, the service is fairly quick. The only issue most face is finding a seat in the small, cramped space. Most people take their items to-go or eat on the curb/street just outside. It was a cold day and I ordered too much food to stand around and also let my fries get cold. Fortunately, I was able to find a seat soon after I placed my order at the counter.

We ordered their homemade dumplings which was boiled dipped in a special soy sauce. Veggies, beef, seafood, pork were all very good. Saw many folks ordering their hotpot which essentially is a boiling clay pot with veggies and your choice of protein . Tea and beer were reasonable. Simple decor and just table and chairs laid out. I do recommend this place if you're looking for delicious Chinese food without breaking the bank!

Best genuine Chinese we've had in Dublin. Heck, it's probably up there too if it were in LA…read more We were famished after a 2.5 hr movie at the Savoy on O'Connell and Chinese places were the only ones still open at 10:30pm. It's what we would've wanted anyway, but by the time we walked over, it was 10:45. There was only 1 other table still there and we were still greeted warmly, as we sheepishly popped our head in. We were presented with Chinese menus, which were not an issue for me, but my husband doesn't read Chinese. No problem, they had English menus as well. I noticed that the Chinese menu had a lot of 家常菜 or 'homestyle dishes', (at roughly 14-20 Euros) which are usually meant for sharing as a 4-top, or a family. Therefore, they're a bit more labor intensive and is not just a stir-fry/takeout menu. However, on the last few pages, there were smaller individual dishes at around 7-10Euros, and that's what we went with as we didn't want leftovers and wanted to eat quickly and turn in. As shown in the photos, we got 2 noodle soups and they turned out huge!!! I got the 3 seafood with mushrooms rice thick noodles (三鮮菇米線)while hubby got the beef noodle soup (牛肉麵). They didn't skimp on the meats, seafood, or the noodles. We devoured everything in roughly 10 minutes and polished off the pot of tea plus some lamb skewers by 11:05. The staff didn't seem bothered that we had overstayed closing time, and were still very courteous. I may be biased bc I very much love getting stuffed on noodles and soups, but this was one of the best meals I've had in Europe.

They always keep space for walk-ins and we were able to snag a seat for just enough time to have the All In for 2. You essentially get small plates of EVERYTHING on the menu to share, and for €20 per person, we figured why the hell not? The food was delicious from start to finish and absolutely worth the gracious price point. The service was quick and friendly and we were walked thru each dish as it arrived. The portions were perfect for the two of us and we left full and happy for a night of drinking whiskey around town. When I came back on my own for the second time, I was both thrilled and surprised that the All In for 1 was a massive amount of food for one person. The first few dishes had similar servings sizes as we got for 2 people, with the dumplings and onion pancake being halved. Again, I ate very well and was entirely ready for the rest of my night out after. Now: this is NOT traditional dim sum, but it's still fabulous dumplings and related small bites. I could eat an entire jar of the kimchi on its own. The peanut slaw is unusual but tasty. And now I'm writing this review I don't remember what it was called -- but it was a toasted dumpling of some kind with pancetta???? To die for !! Things to know: they'll never have a phone number and, like much of Ireland, the hours online are generally a suggestion so plan to either book a reservation online or swing by and poke your head in. The dining space is VERY small, so be prepared to get cozy with your table neighbors.
