Decent sized club that plays edm music mostly. The club has $2 drink specials which change hourly. Overall this place isn't the best but not the worst either. Crowd can vary depending on the night. Waitresses are nice but I felt the bar tenders were rude and didn't serve promptly. There is a smoking area/ outdoor area in the back that has fire pits. This place was a blast if you ever want to go out in the town I highly recommend this place it's a mixed crowd everyone's friendly and you just have so much fun. They had great music in the prices at the bar weren't too expensive nor the cover charge. My girlfriends and I wanted to go dancing last Friday. Being of a certain age (over 22), we weren't sure where to go. We decided on Orchid, because there was no cover, and they had $2 anything-you-want-to-drink. (hello, Gray Goose and tonic for $2!) We enjoyed several delicious cocktails. The bar was really crowded - everyone was taking advantage of the drink specials. After 11, the crowd thinned out a bit, and the dance floor filled up. They played an odd mix of music; mostly European techno and top 40 remixes. There was a nice mix of people there - all ages and ethnicities. Not impressed. Ripped me off of $30 at the door. Cover was $5 and I paid with a $50. I expected $45 back and saw 3 bills with a $5 bill on top. Thought we were cool so I pocketed my change. Next morning I find not two $20 bills and a $5 bill like I thought I got, but three $5 bills. I didn't spend any money in there that night and wasn't drinking so I know it wasn't me. This place could be gold if the music was less wack. This is Detroit. No one likes straight top 40. The DJ tried his best, but his bosses makes sure he only plays top 40 which is unfortunate for everyone involved. They also tend to play the whole song here with music videos. While the music videos are good sometimes, I'd rather there be a DJ who is allowed to read what the crowd wants and play based on that rather than basic top 40. This is my favorite place to kick it in Ferndale! While I'm not much of a club-goer, I do love spending time out and about, and Orchid seriously has something for everyone. Every time I go, I'm amazed that it's not 500% more packed... maybe it's just the best kept secret in the area. I would very highly recommend bringing parties here! Reservations are FREE (just me, or is that totally unheard of?) and when I bring parties here we ALWAYS take advantage of the $2 drinks at the beginning of the night. Not only can you get well drinks for $2, but legit $2 for grey goose, malibu, makers mark, even craft beer... 10 shots of peach ciroc for my party only cost $20. Even after the specials end, drinks are still very reasonable. I ain't even mad! I started coming here because it's soooooo expensive to go out every weekend in ferndale. Any time I try a new bar, I always wish I had spent the night at orchid when I get my tab... OMG... and if you make it to the end of the night, you can expect free pizza :) read more

$2 drinks from 9pm-11pm every Friday and Saturday... And even after 11pm, the prices are super reasonable! Especially for a night club! The music library is always being updated, so there are always fresh beats to dance to! Free pizza at the end of the night. The hip hop Saturdays are done, so both Friday and Saturday are just fun dance music now, with lovely go go dancers on Saturdays. The female staff also have a special costume theme every Saturday, some of which can make it feel like a costume party! And if you ask why the next theme is, you're more than welcome to join in the fun! In the warm months, the patio out back with fire pits and a full bar, so you can enjoy the warmth and a drink at the same time, or just cool off and relax while taking a break from the Dane floor! If you're planning a party, or just a fun night out, you can call or email and reserve a table or booth (if it's still available!) to have a place to set your drinks while partying on the floor. I may be slightly biased, since I work there, but I can definitely say that the few weekend nights I get off, I can't stay away and end up going up there to party! Visited on a Wednesday to participate in the salsa class included in the cover and the salsa party afterwards. The class was a little disorganized but good, clearly catering to the beginners. Party was very good, liked the music a lot. I would say about 70% salsa and 30% bachata music and a very few kizombas during the evening. They have enough space, biggest drawback is the floor is not really good for fast turns. Drinks were cheap and service swift and friendly. Racist club. My boyfriend and I came here to dance and have a good time, but as soon as we got to the door my boyfriend was stopped for having a "hoodie" on. With a fitted denim jacket over it. Only half the heaters outside work, the music was bass boosted stuff from the early 2000's all night, and they seem to profile people which seemed more like the owner power tripping rather than trying to facilitate a good vibe. Friday night my friend choose Orchid for a place to dance that wasn't in Royal Oak. Orchid had no cover and $2 u-call-it's until 11pm so our group of about 10 late 20 to early 30 year old's went to check it out. We got in right away and lots of people were there taking advantage of the $2 drinks. The bartenders were all very nice and they had Two-Hearted Ale in bottles! Yay! The music was great! A mix of top 40 and 90s hits, plus some other random jams that were super fun to dance to. Videos played on about 30 TVs around the bar adding to the atmosphere. So this all sounds pretty good if you are looking for a fun dance night out and don't want to deal with huge crowds, right? Now, about that crowd.... it is by far the most random combination of people I've ever seen. I'm not really even sure how to describe it, but it was awesome. Okay, so I went on hip-hop night. Oops. My friends and I came kind of late in the night, there so no cover charge and coat check was free. Great so far. The bartenders were great and friendly, the drinks were cheap and there were plenty of specials. The crowd that night was pretty awful though. If you weren't dancing like a trash bag then you were sitting on a stool on the side staring at girls twerking, maybe even recording with your phone. The music wasn't really mixed, it sounded like the DJ made a Spotify playlist and was clicking "Next"--kind of a buzzkill. The DJ started playing some mainstream electronic music and all of a sudden you see a bunch of Asian men (me being one of them) swarm the dancefloor. Unfortunately, it only lasted for five or so songs. A little later I realized that my phone had gone missing (discovered the next day that it was stolen, but I got it back). Some advice, if you play techno and house, it keeps the scumbags away! I'll definitely give Orchid another chance, perhaps when it's not hip-hop night. read more

i love it here. came back to celebrate my birthday and opted to reserve two tables for my friends and family. i didn't even know i was getting the big booth behind the dj booth but i'm glad i did! so cozy, private, and a ton of fun! i'm only updating my review because our waitress was amazing! her name was Emily and as soon as we got there she made it known to let her know if we needed anything. she also made sure that my party had lots of water toward the end of the night, which i really appreciate it. she made sure we were good the whole night and i did not have to get up one time to get any drinks at the bar! great place to have some fun and dance! read more

Wow, I can't say enough horrible things about my first (and last) 5 minute encounter with this place. I was with a group of 9 others for my birthday, and a friend suggested Orchid as a last resort. The minute we walk in, we were IMMEDIATELY harassed by the arrogant pseudo-security guard at the front. First he yelled at us for holding the door open (mind you, for 10 seconds only) then started badgering us for ID's and yelling at us to take our coats off and check them. Fortunately I was the "head" of the group and after listening to that jacka** badger us and continually say "are you staying or leaving" I told the group to leave and head to Public House where we were greeted with a warm, friendly host...you know, the way a RESPECTABLE business is run. The music trended towards hip hop that I did not recognize (probably poppish/thuggish stuff that I do not normally listen to), although the crowd did not reflect this. We had so much fun here! The crowd was so mixed it was crazy...everything from dudes in flip flops & shorts to ladies all done up for a night out. The age range was very broad & we made a table reservation which was free & because of the reservation we didn't have to pay cover so long as someone from the party arrived before 10:00. All drinks are $2 before 11:00 but pretty cheap otherwise...our total bill for 2 people was $28. We thoroughly enjoyed the music which was a lot of Top 40 but also some good dance music too. I go for salsa nights on Wednesdays and I like the place ok but it doesn't really feel the same as when we went to woodys. The floor is better for dancing but the weird center stage breaks up the room. The atmosphere is very club geared and it just doesn't feel as comfortable but the people who run the place are great so I give it 4 stars. Otherwise meh. read more

(typically I like it here but this is specific to the event at hand) So, New Year's Eve. I spent it outside the venue, freezing my butt off, covered in hives (not your fault I deal with this allergy but it IS your fault for keeping people out in the cold) Kind of sad that, instead of caring about the patrons, you obviously care more about the profit and let anyone and everyone have a chance to come in so long as they're ok with waiting for more than an hour. One person leaves, oh, yay, one more can go in. With such a small space, a specific number of tickets should have been sold for entry and nothing more. The amount of people that showed up would have been fine for a venue three times the size! But NOT here. And while your bartenders do an astounding job (like, seriously, have you seen how fast they work? it's almost supernatural), you don't have enough staff on hand to handle the amount of people who were at the bar. There was a crowd around the bar backed up into the space where people should be able TO WALK THROUGH THE CLUB. I'm sorry, I wasn't drunk enough upon entering to find that ok. And if you're selling tickets to this thing, why didn't ticketholders get first dibs on entry? What is the point?! $2 less?! That's not bargain pricing, people. Due to all of this, the place was an even bigger mess than it should have been. Floors wet as all get out, tables and counters covered in puddles (wtf guys) and so much toilet paper on the floor in the women's bathroom that it dragged out into the hallway (don't let me forget to mention the vomit in the bathrooms, lawd have mercy) Come on, man, y'all are nasty. Even three sheets to the wind, and I'm disgusted. (NO SOAP IN THE WOMEN'S BATHROOM. WHY.) It's time to expand if you want to host something that big, ever again. It is the sister club to Luna Royal Oak. In comparison, luna is way better, but this place is HUGE on the inside. The best bartender is Molly! The television screens that play music videos are enormous, and the dance floor leaves plenty of room. The area to smoke outside has fire heaters, which are a must in Michigan (and they actually turn them ON unlike most places.) I dig it, but the crowd is pretty consistently 21-23, so that knocks the last star off for me. read more

I went to the Orchid with a group of my girlfriends to go out dancing. We did not spend a lot of time at the Orchid but it was a very nice place to dance. I've seen bouncers inappropriately man handle patrons more than once, even had a drink spilled on me because they were so busy roughing people up to notice I was there. That being said, the number of belligerent idiots in here probably warrants some special force. What confuses me about this place is how UN-Ferndale it is. Not gay friendly at all, I've gotten some pretty rude comments about my appearance (a little butch, but seriously, just a little) which pisses me off when I'm supposed to be in a liberal haven. Best Friday night ever! We had never been but always walked by and decided to have a friend's 30th bday here. We reserved the big booth by the dance floor, so much room even with the 10 of us, and our waitress, Jess, took care of us all night long. I'm the first to admit that I'm not always a big fan of the dance-club scene. I always seem to get creeped on or grabbed by some weirdo. I'm also not a huge fan of the crowd at Luna, either. However, a portion of my bachelorette party was spent at Orchid, and I was pleasantly surprised. It was probably my favorite stop of the evening. I used to go here every saturday night with 2 good friends. On average we spent about 200$ in drinks every time and the bar staff knew us and loved us.... However, recently some disturbing things have happened... One time I was DDing for my other two friends as I had to work in the morning. I witnessed an extremely inhebriated girl I had spoken to earlier being sexually assaulted by a man that was not her boyfriend who I had also met earlier that night. I went up and asked if she was ok and she couldn't even formulate a sentence in response. I was then put in a headlock from behind by the assaulter and after getting away yelled at him. A bouncer came and stepped between us and told him to walk away. Even though this altercation resulted in a cut below my eye, HE WAS NOT KICKED OUT!! My two friends witnessed the whole thing and yelled at the bouncer and the aggressor and other people were shocked to see he wasn't kicked out either. After addressing the Bouncer that a woman had been sexually assaulted and I was asking if she was ok, he said whatever and walked away!!! A seperate experience, I happened to be DDing again for my same friends and another friend that came along. An off duty bouncer was in civilian cloths and being aggressive and yelled at me and tried to start a fight with me because he saw me watching him make a fool of himself. After watching him being buddy buddy with another bouncer, I just walked away. Later I addressed the Bouncer on duty and asked if he was an off duty bouncer and he replied yes. I said ok, good to know if I need to call the police later because it is obvious that you would have your friends back even if he was at fault. He replied with you got that right and walked away. Later that night I was outside and experienced a bloody nose as I have terrible allergies. I quickly had it stopped and nobody was affected by it. They asked me to step outside because they didn't want any blood on their property. I did while my friends were inside. Once it had fully stopped and I tried to re enter, the bouncer made me aware that I was "Done for the night". After explaining it was a medical condition and requesting to meet his manager, he refused both and said sorry oh well. Being the fact that I know the ferndale police very well, I will be speaking to them to file a police report and have Orchid Investigated. In conclusion, if you want to be sexually assaulted, physically assaulted, have bouncers not watching out for anyone but themselves, and want to be kicked out because of a pre existing medical conidition, this is the club for you. Otherwise, I would advise to stay away. Me and my friends determined after the most recent experience that we will no longer be going to Orchid for saftey concerns. Good luck. read more

I've seen someone say this club was racist, I didn't believe it until me and my brother got kicked out for a stupid reason... My brother got a phone call from someone so we stepped out for a second so he could hear, but once we try to go back inside they say we can't get back in because my brother had on a sports coat and hat so he's like "we can just put it in coat check" but once he said that, the bouncers changed it and said that he pushed the owner on his way out. Then the owner comes to the door and says your brother pushed me across the room you guys are out... but you're in a crowded club full of drunk people how do you expect not to get pushed... so we say sorry but I guess that doesn't matter because we still couldn't get in P.S the DJ plays the same songs and NEVER has rap music even when requested lol idk about you guys but 3rap songs a night out of 100 is not cool with me read more

UPDATE: 04/28/2014 I just got home from Orchid. To compare between 2 nights, I like Friday better. Why? Better music, not as toooooo many people as Saturday. It's a hugeeeee mixture to compare with yesterday. Now I understand why other comments said 'Hit or Miss'. To me, Friday is Hit, so definitely I will still come back, but only on Friday. --------- I left this place 2 hours ago. It was the first time I come here. At first me and my guy friend were hesitating because we planned to come to Boogie cafe club something, but they closed for some reason. So we stood outside of Orchid and looked in, to see if this is for our age. Gosh it was crowded! So we came in! Not to complain, we got there before 11 so I didn't have to pay and he paid $5 to get inside. I didn't expect it was only $5! Yes it was crowded, probably at the bar. It was our first time so we didn't know anything about special or whatever, my friend got me a beer. but through people's comment, now I know about $2 u-call-it (hehe).. I didn't expect this club has such a good price to enter in and have fun! I mean seriously! Music is great, although a few of them I didn't really like so i didn't really dance or anything. It was funny when they opened the last 3 songs were old music, probably old school or something, to ask people out. When I started to walk out to get my hoodie, there was a guy yelled: "what? That's it?" I guess he thought he opened a bit later, lol.. The only thing I thought what it should have was a DJ, like a real one and play it...
