Not only did my wife and I (we are a same-sex couple) feel verbally attacked and belittled, we also felt physically unsafe in an unfamiliar place at night in the car of a woman who, upon finding out we were queer, decided to launch into a hateful diatribe. I was in the wedding party and we all had matching blue suits. The night before the ceremony, I realized that I had failed to pack my pants. The closest place where I could hope to buy a substitute was Burlington, an hour inland from Anacortes. After taking the ferry from San Juan Island to Anacortes at 5:00am the day of the ceremony, I was very lucky to call Mike at A Cab for You. Here is a brief, by no means exhaustive list of the ways he helped me out: - After hearing my predicament, he offered to run errands in Burlington for an hour until the stores opened and then pick me up again when I had got my pants (which he then did). - As we waited for the stores to open, he even offered to take me to breakfast! Unfortunately Applebees was closed but it was a very nice thought. - As we were driving back to Anacortes, matching pants somehow procured at a Kohl's, I mentioned that it was a shame that I would be back at the ferry building at 10:30am but that the next boat wouldn't leave until 12:00pm, meaning I would still be cutting it quite close. Mike proposed that I instead fly - he had a pamphlet for San Juan Air in his cab. This is exactly what I did! - There was some question of whether the flight would take place due to cloudy weather. Mike offered to drop me at the ferry building but to pick me up again and take me to the airfield if I got word the flight would definitely happen. I again took him up on this offer and it again worked out perfectly. - As he dropped me at the airfield, Mike was extremely reluctant to take even a modest tip, and as he drove away, he stopped the car and shouted back, "The pants look great!" I wound up getting back to the wedding venue well before noon - hours before I would have had I not met Mike. I was completely in time for the wedding, with suitable pants to boot. This excellent man dedicated his whole morning to helping a stranger on some oddball quest. So, thank you Mike, and if you happen to read this, I am still thinking about your kindness and resourcefulness five years on.

Apparently there are only 6 taxis on the island, after a few of the other companies went out of business during the pandemic. The prices are steep, but fair given the situation. The Hotel de Haro had two recommended taxi services, as Uber and Lyft are not on San Juan Island....Yelp provided mixed reviews on one, only a few (very good) on Rhode Trips. But, as usual, we trusted in Yelp. A great choice it was! The owner and driver is Becky. She was super efficient and responsive. All we really needed was a quick ride, but she gave us deets and intel on things we could do on the island. All proved worthwhile. Most of the taxi services on the island are tour guides as well, and most reviews look at that aspect. But, even if you're just needing a quick ride.......think of it as an Uber XL......because her clean Chrysler van is pretty spacious.....Becky is now our go-to transport solution!

We don't give free rides.." --- "Not gonna pay? Then I'm gonna call the cab. Your 80 year old parents will just have to find another way at midnight. " --- "Oh you gonna leave a bad review? DO IT! I don't care!" ...well she dared me...so here u go. Luckily the owner of the business was driving....he was more professional and courteous and gave me the 'ol "she's new" line to defend his black-hearted dispatch.
