State Bar of Georgia - Toast, we screwed another member of the public and our member made a lot of money for doing it all unethically.

I guess people in Georgia like drinking so much that they even have a State Bar. Where everyone in…read morethe state can go to officially get drunk. It's a beautiful grand old building. Much like your grandfather. It looks shiny and new so they must maintain it pretty well. But then lawyers do have a lot of money so what did you expect. I definitely give it a 4 star for its grandeur and awesomeness. And I could have sworn I posted this already. Whatevs.

Grievances appear to involve violations may proceed to further investigation by the State Disciplinary Board, while matters that do not meet the applicable requirements may be dismissed. Because this process can have a significant consequences for both lawyers and members of the public, an important question is whether the system operates fairly and consistently for all complainants, including Black Georgians who submit grievances against attorneys. This question should be examined through evidence rather than assumptions. A complaint's dismissal, standing alone, does not establish racial discrimination. Conversely, repeated allegations of unequal treatment should not be dismissed without examining the underlying facts, procedures, and available data. Georgia's disciplinary system contains several stages. According to the State Bar, the process begins with screening by the Office of the General counsel. During screening, the Bar may request a response from the attorney and may seek additional information, including relevant client files or other records. Matters that appear to present violations of the professional- conduct rules can proceed to investigation by the State Bar Disciplinary Board. The Georgia Bar Rules likewise authorize the Office of the General Counsel to receive grievances and conduct an initial review. the rules provide for the dismissal of matters that are unjustified, frivolous, patently unfounded , or insufficient to invoke the Bar's disciplinary jurisdiction. The State Bar also explains that the Supreme Court of Georgia retains ultimate authority over the regulation of the legal profession and has the final say regarding public discipline. These procedures establish the formal framework. the more difficult question is whether the framework is applied consistently in practice. Research shows that black complainants grievances are dismissed without applying the formal framework. Which raises the question, are black complainants receiving fair and un-bias treatment from the Georgia State Bar regarding their grievances? I am calling out the Georgia state Bar to respond to this reasonable question after my grievance was dismissed without a specific written explanation of the reason for the dismissal.

I felt comfortable from the beginning even though we couldn't meet in person due to Covid precautions. Mr. Woody was honest in his expectations after all the due diligence, financials, etc. were in place as to what I would most likely receive as a settlement. He kept a calm demeanor, and even provided humor when needed. Mr. Woody was always on time for our scheduled appointments via telephone, Zoom, and responsive if I had questions to be answered later. After negotiations, two mediations, no minor children to provide for (just continued support for 1 through college education), Mr. Woody finalized my Settlement Agreement in less than 1 year. In comparison to other couples I know in ATL as to the duration, legal fees, costs, etc., I do feel somewhat lucky that I found Mr. Woody. To further put my personal situation in context, I divorced a lawyer so it was nice to have another, a team, a firm representing me. Invaluable! Mr. Woody's team included Stacy Smith, Molly Teplitzky. -DG
