I've heard great things about Orbit DVD from Reddit so I wanted to stop here while in town. The store itself is so fun to go into and browse. Tons of cult, classic, and art house films to browse from. And they had some really decent deals in store as well. Everything was very well organized and easy to find. I found a few things that I hadn't known were released as well as a few blind buys. They had a scratch and dent section with really great prices (and the boxes weren't really in that bad of shape). The staff were not that friendly, just okay. If I lived in the area I would definitely continue to support Orbit because physical media should always be available to people who want it. I will probably continue to purchase from them online - they run sales quite frequently which is nice - and I have heard that they pack their orders very securely to avoid damage during shipment. read more

This place is awesome. We went there in search of posters for my daughter's dorm room. We were pleasantly surprised by the selection of movie posters. Also the book selection was amazing. The books were unique and I haven't been able to find any titles quite like these. They have a Miyazaki shelf that is cool too. Nice staff as well. Will definitely be retuning!! read more

This is our 2nd time going to Orbit! Always have the best service and if you have any questions they'll help! It is a great place that has Blu-ray, DVD, VHS, and Video Games on the other side! Collectors beware. They do not play test any of their games nor do they clean them. They have decent inventory and some high end games here, but they are asking premium prices. Prices that are associated with cleaned and tested games. Why would someone pay top dollar for a game when They don't even know if it works or not and has brown crud and sticker goo on them? Add to that, their horrendous return policy and it's a hard pass on these guys. Save yourself a trip and just buy on eBay. You have better protections there. I just can't imagine selling vintage games and not having the decency to test or clean them before selling them. You know they are buying these for Pennie's on the dollars as well. They have a plethora of consoles so that's not an excuse. They sit on their butts doing nothing most of the day so it's not like they don't have time to do it. Pass on these greedy monsters. Wow. This place has an AMAZING selection of video games and consoles. Walking into their video game room is like walking into a museum. They have the best selection of movies to rent of any place I've been to since, well, Blockbuster (RIP) was open. Orbit has a ton of obscure movies and has some old Xbox, PlayStation and Nintendo (and others) games to purchase. I really don't understand the reviews claiming poor customer service as everyone I spoke with was helpful and friendly enough and communicated clearly. Orbit video improves my quality of life. No kidding. We like to watch 1-2 movies per night at home, and streaming services just don't provide enough choice in recent movies. There are few other options. Not only does Orbit provide a large and varied choice of movies, but the staff has been of immeasurable help to me.I go in with a wish list, and they are happy to help me find what i am looking for. This place is amazing!!! I've been a costumer here for almost 10 years and have had such great experiences. The people who work here are all super cool and helpful and are knowledgable about the movies they carry. They are also willing to suggest movies if you need help deciding. They carry tons of movies here, from the most famous to the most bizarre. The way that they organize the movies changes from time to time but is always exciting to hunt for a movie choice. Orbit DVD is the best place ever. Marc and my husband appear to have the same taste in movies. We have a rather *cough cough* large DVD collection (mostly horror movies and obscure cult movies) and Orbit DVD supplements our collection quite nicely! We always have great conversations when we go to check out our rental choices. These guys really know their cult movies! I'm also a huge fan of children's movies and I love that we don't need to own any of these to see them. The fees are totally reasonable (we always check things out for a week) and even the late fees are reasonable. It's so wonderful to have an "old school" DVD rental place in West Asheville. I grew up in the 80s and 90s. My family spent most Friday nights browsing our local video store and trying to convince each other what movies we needed to watch over the weekend. This place gives me that nostalgic feeling of family and simpler times. Even though it's more of a 'nerd chic' kinda spot these days, it's still relieving that enough folks prefer the tangible experience to the digital one that this place stays open. There's still hope!! I wish I had listened to the other reviews about their bad customer service, and unfortunately I can confirm it to be the case. I contacted Orbit DVD earlier in the day to see if they had an item in stock. They told me that they did, and confirmed that their hours listed online were correct. I drove over an hour, paid the $3.50 for parking, and then when I walked to the store, three people/employees were coming out the front door/locking it. They said they were closing the store for 20-30 minutes, but would be back if I just wanted to wait. They then walked into the back of an apartment down the street. I have no clue what was going on or why they closed, but obviously, don't tell your customers that you'll be open when you're not, and/or don't randomly close the store for half an hour during business. This was going to be my first Orbit DVD experience, but it turned out to be my last even before I could step inside. What a monumental waste of time and money that could've been completely avoided with a bit of honesty and customer service/business sense. read more

Orbit just ripped me off! I bought a Nintendo ds and some games spent $100. Only to Find out the charging port on the Nintendo ds was busted. Went to go return it an hour later and they said no refunds on open merchandise after the argument the owner said he would give me a refund but would take $10 for a restocking fee. Orbit DVD is a hip, independent video store in West Asheville where you can find a great selection of DVDs and video games for a good price. However, I have two gripes: 1. Their DVD selection is a bit cluttered and difficult to navigate. I suppose with practice you can navigate it pretty easily, but the layout doesn't feel intuitive to me. 2. I have had some unpleasant experiences there and I feel that customer service is not a priority. The "customer is always right" certainly does not apply. Customer satisfaction and cultivating loyalty has not been my experience so far. With those things in mind, I recommend Rosebud Video over Orbit DVD. Except for their large and regularly updated video game selection, I see no reason to recommend Orbit over Rosebud. read more

I'd have given them five stars except they hang onto their discs for way too long -- the discs get all scratched up and won't play properly. DVDs upon DVDs are in here. From time to time, there are running specials and sales. Theres a little kids corner so that your kids are kept occupied while you're shopping for that hidden gem. I absolutely LOVE Orbit DVD. I live about 45 minutes away and I make frequent trips to the store to browse the shelves. It never fails that I always leave with a good stack of movies to add to my collection. As an avid horror/cult movie fanatic, Orbit DVD is an absolute honey hole for weird and hard to find underground horror/cult films. The employees have been nice and helpful everytime I have been there and have never experienced any sort of rude behavior from anyone who works there, so I'm not sure where the few other bad reviews are coming from. With Netflix and other digital distribution channels dominating the way we consume media it is nice to see that a physical video rental store still exsists. Oribit stocks all the most recent releases in all the popular formats (if you own a HD DVD player you are SOL, that thing was never popular, you probably had a Beta player back in the day didn't you?), as well as off the radar indy titles and various B+ releases (Sharknado 1 + 2 I'm looking at you). The staff is friendly and helpful and will happily recommend films based on your personal tastes. But wait there's more! Orbit also stocks, comics, video games, and various other pop culture goodies. You could walk in looking to rent a copy of Sex and the City 2 and leave with your arms full of 10 cent comics and blind boxed Minecraft figures (because that is totally what I imagine someone renting Sex in the City 2 would be into). It is always a treat to go to Orbit whether you know exactly what you want or whether you have no idea what you're doing, if your visit doesn't leave you with a smile on your face it is probably because you opted to rent Sex in the City 2. read more

I am ashamed to admit it took me awhile to check out Orbit DVD, simply because I am not in the habit of renting movies and I assumed that was all that Orbit had to offer. How wrong I was! Orbit DVD is located in West Asheville, but as it is a part of the Bledsoe Building, parking is generally available. Orbit not only offers movie rentals - sorted into thoughtful and hysterical categories, including a WTF section - you can purchase movies and other pop culture items as well. They generally have a small selection of old gaming consoles, including the original nintendo system. They do offer a decent selection of comics, and their back issues are reasonably priced. If you are into collecting POP figures or the nintendo amiibo's, this is one more place to add to your rounds. They have reasonably priced used movies and games for sale, including games for the newer systems like Xbox One and PS4. If you haven't ever checked Orbit out before, I recommend giving it a look! read more

Make sure you are 100% on anything you purchase. I was buying a T-shirt and specifically asked if it didn't fit could I return it. I was told yes. I went to return it this weekend and was told I could only do an exchange. No refund. Fine. Put it on a gift card. Then I find out they also don't refund the sales tax. How is that even a thing? These folks know their movies. Good selection, great suggestions, and there were some comics and games, which was cool to see. The staff are very laid-back and not afraid to be real with you- definitely no pandering, and got some ribbing about my movie choices, which I wasn't a huge fan of honestly. I'm an avid vhs collector and I have been buying vhs tapes here since I moved here because they have a really good small selection of oddball horror and sci Fi. But twice I've gone in and found tapes with mold inside on the tape and that will mess up a VCR bad so I passed them up and one was priced at 10 dollars. Today I saw two tapes that had rewind stickers that blocked me from checking for mold. I asked politely if they could remove the sticker so I could check and the reply was "well.... That's just the risk" and I did not purchase those tapes. It's annoying because when you are charging that much for tapes then why are you making me risk screwing up my vcr selling me possibly moldy tapes? To remove that sticker would not affect the tape or value in the least so why is it a problem? Oh well.... I can take my business elsewhere. read more
