Library building view from the park

This Costa Mesa-Donald Dungan Library is conveniently located with easy access and right next to a park. Beautiful, spacious building. Helpful staff. Also, a few homeless people around the library

First, BEAUTIFUL library and grounds! Has a cool kids play area outside as well. Came here just to check it out. The friends bookstore selection was quite small and a few quarters more than others. Seating was okay. I decided to go through my emails and was sitting near the windows. I could feel the heat of the sun sitting there; they should really put a film or something, if they havent... anyways, as i was chilling, the security guard sat at 3 different chairs within 20 minutes. It was weird that he kept moving around and sitting. He was watching youtube videos. At one point, he fell asleep and was snoring. I get that he is bored, but he is still being paid, and that is unacceptable.

Every table has a note like this = no working outlets

I really do not want to post this review because this place is beautiful, but just as I would expect the same courtesy, I would want the most authentic and honest Yelp review on a location so that I know what to expect should I choose to visit. This library is BEAUTIFUL. Do not get me wrong. The views are spectacular and the upstairs area is perfect for studying. There are many two-person study tables available, but no working outlets! I am here on a Sunday Morning. Upstairs area is fairly empty (many tables available). I was debating which area would be most conducive for a colleague and me to study for our pharmacy board exams. I initially placed my belongings in the teen area, which is a separate room that includes a long table with outlets. The librarian upstairs asked me if I needed assistance since I kept wandering around looking for possible areas, and I mentioned that I was looking for an area that had working outlets. She suggested that I can book a study room for one hour. I explained that my colleague and I would be studying for an extended period of time and would need access to outlets throughout the day. I asked if the teen area had working outlets. She proceeded to tell me that there were some working outlets but stated "but that is teen only area". My interpretation of that was basically an indirect way of her telling me that I was not allowed to utilize the area. I was by no means offended because she was very kind and trying to be accommodating. I know the librarians have nothing to do with the construction of the building. However, I strongly suggest that whoever is in charge of remodeled libraries should take into account the current generation. People of all ages have technology nowadays. Most people come to the library and would like to have a working outlet because they will spend much longer than 30 minutes to an hour there and will need electricity to power up their devices. I'm sure once they get electricity, things will be much better. Again the library is BEAUTIFUL and the librarians are EXTREMELY nice, but at the end of the day, I am studying 8-10 hours for my pharmacy board exam and need a working outlet. If you need an outlet, I would call library first before going to see if they've resolved that issue - or when they will be resolving the issue. Hope this issue gets resolved soon so I can re-visit and write a better review.

Looks nice from the outside, but not very functional in the inside...haha, sounds like a lot of relationships, haha

This was a quick Yelp check in and check out. There are very few reading desks and the outlets are not working on any of them. There are modern reading chairs, but their low backs mean you can't lean back comfortably. There are very few books and shelves here...strange for a library!? Instead of a gigantic elliptical middle stair case or a huge help desk, how about more room for book shelves or seating? Even the children's area was unimaginative and limited. There are two study rooms upstairs, but you can only use it for one hour max per day. Am I a nerd for saying that students usually need a group study room for at least 2 hours? I guess they wanted to spend most of people's tax dollars on showy architecture instead of filling the library with content, functionality and readers. Probably never coming back.

Golden West College has a wonderful library and staff here to help out with books and resources. I…read morewent to this college for a little while years back, and I always felt comfortable studying here with my homework. There are good study groups too you can bond with, and make friends with in helping you reach your academic goals. Its just a wonderful library.

Awesome library! I think it's open to the community too, so it doesn't seem like you have to be a…read morestudent to study here (still gotta pay for parking though). This is a nice library - newer than the one they had closer to the middle of campus. I like the third floor (which is the library's 2nd floor - as the first floor is occupied by their computer center/tech lab). It's pretty quiet up here most of the time and the students keep to themselves. There are plenty of outlets on the third floor so you can plug in and recharge your laptop while you study. Plenty of seating as well - I like the ones that line the HUGE picturesque glass windows that overlook the parking lot, Goldenwest Street and beyond. You can see the mountain range far far in the backdrop on clearer days. A great plus is the strong wifi connection here and also that it was nicely ventilated/air conditioned - so it creates a nice refuge from the heat waves we've been having in the area lately. The staff/librarians here are friendly - I haven't had to use any of their services or expertise, but they're always cheerful/happy looking. Restrooms are clean for the most part - the ones on the 1st and 2nd floor tend to get messy throughout the door due to the traffic, the cleanest ones I feel, are on the 3rd floor as most students don't head up that high. Hours can be a bit better - maybe open later during the week and even have hours during the weekends if budget permits. Current hours - Mon/Tues/Wed/Thurs - 8a to 845p and Fridays 8am to 3p.
