What's the best entertainment value in OC for $5.00? For many, it's CSUF Women"s gymnastics meet at…read moreTitan Gym. There are usually four or five meets per year at home. As of this writing, they have one more home meet and the conference championships (which will likely cost more) at CSUF in 2010. I found out about this program once when I was a student here playing tennis one Sunday. All of the sudden, people flocked to the parking lot and onto Titan Gym. It's a great place to take little girls who can see how beautiful and strong they can grow and maybe even have their Olympic dreams. There's few places where can you see fit strong and beautiful women defy gravity/ as they tumble, dance, and swing. UCLA has a gymnastics team also, but they're 60 miles or so away. NCAA gymnasts compete on the floor exercise. Watch for girls who flip in the air twice before landing and show off their personality as they dance to music. On vault, they also sprint down the floor then vault off a "horse", fly high, then flip or twist around before landing. On the uneven bars, they need to do ten moves, including a release when they throw themselves off the bar, re-catch, and pirouette on top of the bar while in a handstand, and swing out and flip or twist and land cleanly. The balance beam is where these ladies have to do a floor exercise routine on a beam that is 4 inches wide and four feet off the floor. It takes years daily practice for several hours to do a routine in a minute and thirty seconds. Gymnasts have the highest injury rate of any NCAA sport except springtime football training. They also have to always wear can't hide leotards during competition. These are beautiful and strong women, but as a friend of mine found out years ago, dating a female gymnast does have its drawbacks. For one, they are sometimes bruised and injured, and people might think their guy is abusive. They might say something like "Hey dude you're not a man if you have to hit your girl!" Truth is, these ladies are some of the toughest people you'll meet. I used to moan about getting kicked in the face during tae kwon sparring. These ladies instead of contacting a hand or foot, contact on the ground or an unforgiving piece of metal or wood while tumbling ten feet in the air. They get back up, and try it all again with no complaints. Once outside the gym, the Titan women are among the highest rated academic gymnastics teams in the country. Here is one of their gymnasts in action at a meet vs. UC Davis. Check out the double back somersault in the beginning and the end of the routine. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6QMnrEp-oqw&feature=related But you better try to see them soon because sadly, they're fighting to stay alive because of budget cuts. This is a storied program that had a one armed gymnast, Carol Johnston, who once was one of the best in her time. Disney even made a TV movie about it in the early 80's called "Lefty". They were once national contenders, more than any other CSUF team except the baseball team. They're still able to beat teams like CAL, San Jose State, and UC Davis, who were all ranked higher earlier in the year. But these Titan ladies fight with style. And hopefully they can succeed and remain part of the athletic landscape at CSUF.

I often accompany her to Ducks games and today was the first time this season. We sit near a mother (90-something) and son (60-something) who are there every game. The son has a huge bellowing voice to yell "Let's Go Ducks!!" No doubt the players can hear him from the ice rink. The Honda Center is full of adrenaline and pep and it's entertaining to watch people as much as it is to watch the game! The new parking structure is really nice! I didn't understand why my friend insisted on parking backwards but then it totally made sense as we left just now because it's much easier to join the line of departing cars if you're driving forward. ALSO, if someone kind makes room for you in the line. Thank you, kind person! Back to the Honda Center--we got some chicken tenders and curly fries for $15 for dinner because we were hungry after work. (Usually we just get Dole whip soft serve pineapple (yum))! Generous portions of real chicken meat in three huge tenders which were well cooked and seasoned, on a mountain of curly fries--very satisfying! You grab your own condiments to go, so I got ranch and ketchup. The Ducks played very well and it was fun sitting next to a 5-year-old boy and his dad--the boy was enraptured with the game, shouting things like "Ducks, do better!" To which his dad replied, "well, we ARE winning". I went to my first Ducks game back in 1996, 30 years ago when Paul Kariya was playing. It's still a super fun team to watch live!! I'm sure we'll be back!

We fell lower but went up to 18th. Hopefully we can at least try to get to 15 or 12 or 10th place before the season ends. Anyways ducks had a huge comeback this season and here's pictures from the 2024 season home opener. Go ducks!

I really hate being a negative Nancy but I do think people pay good money for these events and should be comfortable and healthy during their stay. [-1] This convention center is HUGE.. so the lack of adequate seating was extremely disappointing. The previous MLG events people were complaining that there were not enough seats because the hosts didn't expect such a huge turn out for a new game (League of Legends) so even after that mistake they still didn't have adequate seating! People LOVE league of legends guys.. it's not an unknown game anymore! Adapt to that! Meet the demands of such a popular game! [-1] Lack of real stores. The other League of Legend events had Teemo hats.. Rammus hats, what have you. This MLG event? One T-shirt booth. That was extremely disappointing! You could make BANK selling game/fan merchandise! Why do you think jerseys and sports merchandise do so well? People LOVE their sports (yes, even e-sports) and are willing to dish out $$$ for interesting souvenirs/keepsakes. I wanted a Teemo hat. D: [-1] Not enough televisions! BlizzCon held their event in the same -exact- venue, had massive crowds, and had arena/SC games running on more than 3 TVs in each area so everyone could see from different angles. Also, the camera that MLG used to broadcast? It kept blocking the view of people who were standing on the left side of the stage. That was a major bummer. Everyone kept screaming "MOVE THE CAMERA!" Again, very disappointing. [-1] Lack of food options! I don't know, but if your event is going to span the entire day, have some options for food that's inside! Anime Expo and other conventions all offered food options inside the venue. I mean, I know a lot of gamers usually forget to eat the entire day, but some others remember, dang it! Also had to pay $12 parking for each day that we were there which is really silly. If the event is 3 days, give us a pass, dangit! :P [+1] They had a lot of games to try out and other competitions to watch if you're a fan of the other games too. The noise from the other booths didn't interfere with the booths you're at which was nice (aside from the cheering, of course). As much as I love league of legends, I'm not sure if I'd attend another event hosted by MLG. I'd rather watch from my computer screen hooked up to a giant TV and be able to sit with my bf and eat my food like a fattie:D! I didn't attend the 3rd day because it was actually more relaxing watching from home! D: Don't get me wrong, I did enjoy my time there but they could have done a lot better! Tip: Get here super early for seats and don't stand where the camera will block you!

It was spacious, cool, and comfy. No food vendors inside the facility were open, however Dr. Pepper (one of their sponsors) was dishing out free soda's to everyone all weekend long. It was nice to get my hands on souvenir "Avenger's" cans featuring Loki and Nick Fury! The usual T-Shirt vendors were there, and it was a very nice surprise to see Gunnar Optix represented where my guy picked up a very snazzy pair of gaming glasses. Test area's for SC2 Heart of the Swarm, League of Legends, and a few others (Mortal Kombat / King of Fighters 13) were also present to add to the experience. The individual stages were set and the pro's were geared up to fight to the death (in game of course!) Seating was fantastic especially with the main event, Star Craft II, with 6 huge screens for many of us to see if seated waaaaaay in the back. The League of Legends screen was limited to just the one big screen, but I don't think anyone anticipated how big of a crowd they would get, with the game still being relatively new. The pools and finals of both events were amazing and had us all at the edge of our seats!! I can't wait to come back again next year! (Maybe Stephano will go all the way and win the SC2 title next time!)
