Rancho Santa Margarita is an affluent city located in Orange County, California. It is a beautiful master planned community set upon rolling hills. It is also a city with one of the lowest crime rates, which is a big plus in my book. I enjoy reading our daily local Patch newsletter and seeing all of the silly police blotter stories, which would be almost laughable at times in comparison to the murders and other high crime happening in many other cities. I'll take a police blotter filled with teenage and neighbor disturbances and citizens needing assistance regarding syrup being spilt over their car or their home's window being hit by a paintball anyday over what other cities are experiencing. The community also has so many wonderful things to offer such as excellent top rated public and private schools. Great schools give many of our schools a 9 or a 10, which was really important to us when choosing a city in California to raise our family and call our home. We also have a gorgeous, well stocked library that offers so many wonderful programs to the local children working with alot of the local businesses and companies such as Walgreens, Target and the Fire Department. Along with reading material, they are also a great resource place for all sorts of information in Orange County. RSM seems to have the most pristine and lushest parks that I have ever set my eyes on. The community is very proud of their local parks and take part in taking good care of their parks, unlike many other parks I have been to in other areas (and States, including Hawaii). I was so pleased to see how well kept the park grounds, facilities, playground equipment and bathrooms are maintained. No rust, filth, graffitti, and homeless, to name a few. There are also a variety of shopping available in the area for the residents, where technically you could get all of your shopping done without leaving RSM. I personally would like to see them put in a local Costco, then I'd say the residents would be all set. Some of the local favorites are: Trader Joe's, Target, Bath and Body Works, Pet Smart, Ulta, Ross and CVS. You can also get all of your weekly service necessities taken care of from your Doctor visits and physical fitness at one of the many Doctors or gyms to having your haircut or being pampered at one of the many salons and/or spas. There are also many different financial institutions to choose from along with dry cleaning or tailoring services, all within walking distance. And of course what city wouldn't be complete without tons of dining options? The residents of RSM have numerous food and dining options available from Thai food to Mexican food to American food to Japanese food to Greek food and Italian, to name a few. Some of our favorites are: Cinnamon Productions Bakery Cafe, Carmelita's, Wood Ranch BBQ & Grill, Subway, Embarcadero California Bistro, and Sake Sushi. He clearly explained that he was not experiencing an emergency and was simply there to express his gratitude. While one member of the station appeared welcoming and appreciative, the response from the other individual was unnecessarily dismissive. Telling someone that this is a "place of business" and that they need to leave when they are peacefully attempting to thank first responders came across as extremely unprofessional and contrary to the relationship a public safety agency should maintain with its community. I completely understand that a fire station is an active workplace and there may be policies regarding visitors. However, those boundaries can be communicated with basic courtesy and professionalism. A simple "Thank you, we appreciate the gesture, but unfortunately we can't have visitors inside right now" would have accomplished the exact same thing without disrespecting someone who came there with good intentions. I sincerely hope the department reviews this interaction and that some form of accountability or corrective action is taken. That does not necessarily mean severe discipline, but this should not simply be ignored. At minimum, the employee involved should be reminded of the standard of professionalism expected when interacting with members of the public and given appropriate guidance or training. On September 11th of all days, someone taking time to personally thank first responders and bring flowers should not have walked away feeling unwelcome or disrespected. The public deserves professionalism, and the many firefighters who represent their departments with compassion and integrity deserve to have that standard upheld as well.

I was asked to do a wellness check on someone and when I arrived I noticed 2 LBPD units parked up…read morethe street and then I saw a message that the person I was checking on was deceased. I needed to relay the situation to a family member that lived out of state and it was nerve wracking to say the least. The officers were there for hours waiting for the coroner and explaining to all kinds of nosey people with somewhat inappropriate questions. I have a handful of cops in my family but I don't get to hear about the slow days per se. LBPD contracts with a service called TIPS. They send counselors to calls where someone is impacted by a traumatic situation. These people along with the officers were amazing and they stayed till the last person walked out and I locked the door. Of course if I get a ticket from LBPD in the future I'm def coming back and taking some s away.

I dropped off some blankets, jackets, and dog food that will assist homeless and their pets this Winter. I started with one bag, as I wasnt sure where I was going. When I found the box, it was behind a desk in the lobby, off to the side. The woman at the desk was on the phone, so I waited. Someone else came out, and took my bag - and I stated I would be back with some more. When I returned, she was still on the phone so I waited. I didnt want to just drop the donations and leave. Someone else came out and helped me... everyone was very friendly, and working very hard. It sounds like there are a lot of events that go on here, and I am curious what all those are. I will do some research online. Not sure if there was a small library, or work space here, but it was nice and cozy looking.
