OK, I know we have every bit of information known to man available on our smart phones BUT there is no substitute for a well stocked visitor's center and the Gulf Shores Welcome Center is a great asset to the entire Gulf Coast area. We made a quick stop on a recent first time visit to Gulf Shores, AL and met two of the nicest ladies ever! The Gulf Shores Welcome Center is super well stocked with printed brochures and maps BUT the ladies were the real gems. They listened to our questions and provided helpful information. They knew where all of the best parking spots were to access the public beaches. That information was golden. I would recommend a stop at this Welcome Center wholeheartedly.

A really good stop. Worth your time. This location is well lit, bright in appearance and bright in advice. Parking can accommodate a fair amount of people. Inside find: bubbly, friendly and personable guidance from folks proud of their town and region. Observed many different folks come in and all seemed warmly addressed and assisted. Good sign. We walked away with knowledge, maps and a plan for our vacation visit that enhances our stay. Bonus! Thank you Gulf Shores Visitor Center!!

This is a gem of visitors centers. The inside is bright and beautiful. This visitors enter is only about a year old so it's relatively new. The staff are sweet as a peach. They were super helpful and friendly in assisting us with our questions and things to do while in the area. They gave us suggestions for scenic routes to take and points of interests. They have a wide assortment of traveler pamphlets and coupon books for dining, shopping, and attractions. They also had free bracelets "leave only your footprints." This visitors center is not crowded whatsoever so you should definitely stop by when you're coming into the city.

Before my mom died her favorite story to tell was a story about me, at this Florida welcome center, when I was just 4 years old. One day we were traveling from my grandparents house in Louisiana (her parents home) back to our home, here in Pensacola. We lived here in Pirate'cola when I was a baby, my father was in the service here. Anyway, as the story goes, we were driving back from grandmas house about 2 and a half hours drive. Everyone wanted to stop for orange juice & I had to pee. I was 4 so orange juice was very important & I was very excited to get my orange juice. Anyway, back in those days I was a little majorette in Kindergarten. I was a very good baton twirler, had a snazzy little blue sequined one piece body suit & white cowboy boots that I wore on the field at the football game. Anyway, I was the smallest majorette with my tiny baton & tiny tiny little white cowboy boots. I was so adorable! I wore them to my grandmothers to show her how cute I was, obviously, and was still wearing my cute little white boots on the way home. So I waited & waited so excited to get my orange juice but it was taking longer than I expected to pull into the Florida Welcome Center. We pull in & I jumped out of the car, running to the bathroom to pee so I could go get my Orange Juice! But i didn't make it up the hill & peed in my little white boots. When my mom got up the hill to the entrance, I was barefoot sitting on the grass. She asked me where are your little white boots & I pointed at the trash can. lol After I peed in my little white boots, I obviously did not need them anymore. duh. Anyway, I did get my orange juice & a new pair of little white boots the next week as I was taught to never litter. Till this very day, every time I come into Pensacola & see that big Florida Welcome sign, I always remember how much I love Florida, my memories of my mother, her exquisitely untarnished love for me & the smell of fresh new white cowboy boots. Highest Recommendations.

One of the best places to visit during Christmas is in nearby Mobile County, Alabama, where they hosts "Magic Christmas in Lights" each year. Located on the grounds of "Bellingrath Gardens" it's one of the best Christmas light displays in the U.S. There is tons of info located in the lobby about all things Alabama. It's a great stop with a beautiful lobby with multiple Christmas trees for all your insta selfies & viewing pleasure. A beautiful large "park like" setting outside, with super clean restrooms inside. Highly Recommend.

They are at mile marker 65.8, so in essence, we know that I-10 through Alabama is roughly 66 miles long. My visit here was on August 25, 2022. The weather on this day wasn't so good. It would be nothing but rain all day long. Making this stop at the welcome center was totally needed to get out of the car for a bit, as well as getting off the rainy roads. It was coming down pretty heavy at times. It was great to get inside, use the restroom, and just check things out on the inside of the building. Due to the rain, I didn't do anything outside there on that visit. Even though it was raining, they do have plenty of open outdoor space here. Although the visitor center is open from 8 am to 5 pm, restrooms and such are open 24 hours daily. The Alabama Welcome Centers have all been very welcoming. The inside of the building was really nice. Let's start with the restrooms. The restrooms were in great shape. They were well stocked and clean. The rest of the welcome center was nice too. Each area of inside was broken down into different parts of the state. They were broken up into the Highlands, Plantation, Wiregrass, and Gulf Coast regions. It was very well organized. When traveling along I-10 West, you will go through the Wiregrass and then the Gulf Coast sections of the state. Overall, this was a very nice welcome center, which is something I have always experienced for the ones in Alabama. Even in bad weather, it is still worth making the stop to come inside. You can get maps, construction info for the state, and more. The staff there were great as well. If your travels take you into Alabama along I-10 West, you should definitely make that stop here.

There is an assumption that a visitor understands details of the various sights. Examples included 1) Magnolia Cemetery with its various unique burial places. We were lucky to find some of them without written directions. 2) The Mobile Carnival Museum's front door has a chain link fence across it because its entrance is on a one-way street that leads away from the museum (to reach it you have to drive around the block to find it). And, 3) the Museum of Mobile, on it literature says, open until 5 pm yet when you get there they open only to 4:30 on Mardi Gras Parade days. You will find the windows on the cites free Moda! circulator bus to be a disappointment. It is a mini bus where all expenses were saved on glass. There were windows on both sides of the bus but the windows, especially the front were small. Thr front windows seemed designed for the just the driver to see out. Very disappointed. I wonder if the city bureaucrat who ordered those busses ever rode in one? Will admit I missed and avoided downtown Mobile after just one bus trip.
