If I lived in this part of Kew, I can honestly say that ORA would be my go-to local brekkie, brunch or lunch spot. Yes it wouldn't be the preferred automatic choice of cafe for those who are commuting but it's worth paying this great little cafe a visit at least once. We had lunch there a while ago on Sunday and, as expected, it was very busy. The crowd was made up of a mix of local residents (and their pets!) and others (perhaps like myself) who'd decided to give this place a shot on the day. We managed to secure a window seat facing the street, which is actually my preferred spot in such a cafe. My flat white was really good and my Crumbed Pork Schnitzel Roll was also delicious. I really like their menu. It's a little fancier than your typical cafe but not too the point where they've ovderdone it. I've seen cafes who have complicated their menus so much that they couldn't come back to basics, and had to shut up shop. ORA is not one of those. I really enjoyed our lunch and shall definitely return!

Scrambled eggs, sourdough toast, fresh tomato side, with divine home-made breakfast sausage. Perfection!

Ora is emblematic of Melbourne's serendipitous cafe scene. I wandered down the street to find this gem sitting inconspicuously amongst a small group of suburban shops, where it enjoys cult status amongst locals (attested by the queue waiting for the 8am Saturday opening time). Their La Marzocco is always at full tilt, and while I prefer a more ball-tearing coffee intensity, the quality here is still top shelf. The artisan breakfast menu is exceptional. Highlights for me include the fresh tomato salad served as a side with eggs, the home-made breakfast sausage (divine), and the house-made pumpkin jam I just devoured with their a-grade fruit toast. The service is faultless, delivered by real people who obviously love working here. So they should - I LOVE this place too.

You must have a coffee otherwise the barrista boys will feel unloved. This is a fern with a love heart, though thend result is a bit weird.

This eastern suburbs hipster hangout serves up delicous gourmet delights with a south asian homestyle fusion mix. Dropping in for lunch in an area I don't usually find myself in (we bought some running shoes at nearby Runners World), we parked VIP style right out front. Yelp guided us away from the lesser alternatives available. After an awkward moment standing in the middle of the place we were given a table in the corner. The light overhead was out but the natural lighting was fine. A little while later we were greeted by our waitress who made our whole experience a lot of fun. Everyone in our group commented on how much they enjoyed her company during the meal. The menu is difficult to decipher without the aid of Google or alternatively a "what the hell lets try that". I had a rich egg on toast with kasoundi and potatoes. Every bite was delightful and the toast was full of flavour. Just how do they do that? We finished up the meal with a jam and cream donut ... Ok there is a gourmet name for it!

When out the other night we got heavily chastised by friends for living so close to Ora but not yet visiting. They were so insistent (almost bullying!) on their recommendation we decided to rectify that the very next morning. Very glad we did. This one's a keeper. It was a busy and bustling morning, and a public holiday, and quite a few people waiting outside. We were told there was a 20 min wait, but it ended up being about 5. A lot of that crowd outside must have been waiting for coffees as apparently this place is renowned for it. Inside is pretty tiny with a few communal tables, the walls all furnished with blown-up Banksy images. My peppermint tea came out in a cute little glass holder, which was new, but the smell of the coffee and the extensive and curious coffee menu made me regret not breaking my no-coffee rule and sampling some of their delights. Maybe next time. The food came out, plated up like a boss. (Strangers wanted photos of our food). The menu is short, but what they do they do very well indeed. There were some ingredients unfamiliar to me, but everything tasted amazing so my blind faith and culinary ignorance paid off handsomely in the end. A new favourite.

Eggs, Avo, Cured Salmon on Gluten Free Bread. Best version of this I've ever had!

After a great sell from the lovely waitress I settled on the Prawn Toast with Avocado Whip - something that I don't think I'd normally order.

I was wondering why such a popular spot would be so isolated? But all is well worth the effort to get here. The venue is brimming with natural lighting, classic charm and warmth. For my breakfast, I ordered the Pixelated avocado (on a sourdough toast) because it just looked so darn intriguing. I didn't expect anything else to be honest, and turned out this was GOOD!! Every single element in this dish has complex flavors that compliments each other. The chili dried air kale, diced pixelated avocado and the soft shell crab was especially stunning. The dish certainly performs to its Instagram ability. For my drink, I ordered their matcha latte; it was strong tasting yet smooth. I could drink this all day! The Light Years is certainly not disappointing in any way, from the beautiful venue to the outstanding food, supported with service and ambiance for days. Easily, my favorite brunch spot in town at the moment and much to recommend you :).

Recently opened at the bottom of a new apartment block just along from the Camberwell tram depot, it should not be confused with Lights in the Attic cafe which is a bit further down Camberwell Road. The fit out is the now common scandi/minimalist affair with a smattering of potted greenery. Coffee is from Dukes, but the star of the show here is the food. All the dishes I saw coming out looked great and were good sized portions. I had the bircher and it was a generous serve, looked pretty and tasted even better. Overall a good value and tasty option for brunch/lunch in the leafy inner east.

I'm a little surprised to see people queuing at Axil when this paradise awaits upstairs next door, don't get me wrong I love Axil, but this place is pretty stunning. But please don't tell them, it's rare to be able to get a seat outside on a gorgeous sunny deck under an umbrella surrounded by trees and a veggie garden in Melbourne without a queue. The food has never disappointed. From the porridge and oats to the cooked breakfasts, I always enjoy my meal. Good specials on offer too, on the weekend I had corn and ricotta fritters with heirloom tomato salad and avocado cream, it was the goods and I'd love to see it on the menu. Their coffee offering is pretty solid, from the standard milky affair to the fancy filter stuff I don't understand but order to impress our interstate guests with my Melbourneness. Their green smoothies are tasty too. The staff are great with a sense of humour that I really enjoy, the owners in particular are cool (banter with them is a highlight for me), they're friendly and it's a family affair and they welcome families alike. But don't worry this place isn't overrun with yummy mummies, it's not really overrun with any 'type' it's just full of people who enjoy good food in breezy, relaxing surrounding. They also do yoga on the deck on Saturday mornings.

Choosing a snack was difficult as everything looked delicious. The custard donut did not disappoint. I'll be back to try something from the breakfast menu or for yoga on the deck Saturdays!

Having had the pulled lamb on humus and lentils, their menu describing it much better than myself, it was delightful. The citrus zest dressing complements the slow cooked lamb and lentils which are too full of flavour. The brownie is very good. Not at all sweet and surprisingly much more creamy that what you would expect from a traditional brownie sadly it is quite small and seeing as brownies are my only vice there is always space for more.
