    Lynn L.

On 6/10 I had been experiencing high anxiety, so I called my Optum doctor and he prescribed some anxiety medication. For the next  few days I felt better, but then a few days after that i started having major anxiety again with a RAPID PULSE RATE.  My normal pulse rate is 68, but now it was 106!!! (see photos) On the morning of 6/22 I called the Optum office to make an appointment.  I was instructed to go the Glendora office at 2:00pm 6/22 to see Jason Wagner, PA (Physician' Assistant).  I got there on-time, but was having difficulty breathing.  I was given a mask at the door and put it on loosely over my nose so I could breathe. I got to the receptionist and the first thing she said to me was 'put your mask on over your nose'. She said this to me as she herself had her mask falling off her nose.  I told her she needs to pull up her own mask.  She did not seem to appreciate her own hypocrisy as I took photos of her fumbling with her mask.  What they wanted was for me to have the mask tight across the bridge of my nose.  The problem was that having the mask that tight was interfering with my breathing, and I told the receptionist I was not comfortable doing that.  She called her manager since she was not capable of empathizing with their patient's medical conditions. Shortly thereafter was escorted to the exam room and left alone, so I took off my mask to get some breathing relief.  The girl that does the blood pressure came in with the same nasty attitude as the first girl and demanded that I put on my mask.  I put my mask on again loosely over my nose (in the same manner as the receptionist) so I could breathe. She refused to take my blood pressure and left the room.  I do admit that I  was getting irritated by this time.  Now the PA Jason Wagner came in and angrily demanded that I put a mask on tight across the bridge of my nose. I told him i could not BREATHE with it on like that.  Jason refused see me as a patient unless I complied with his demands for how to wear a mask, and brusquely left the exam room. I was now alone and desperate, and called 911 trying to get some emergency help for my difficulty breathing since no one at the Optum office would help me.  I ended up leaving under my own power without any treatment, but could just as easily left on a stretcher. Isn't it funny how the receptionist and other office workers can wear their masks the same way as I was, but strict compliance is only an issue for patients? There should be no mask mandates for patients which have already had Covid19 vaccinations, and I had the proof in my purse.  I have been going to Healthcare Partners/Opium for approximately 25+ YEARS with no difficulties until that day.  After the poor treatment I suffered there on 6/22, I checked the Optum Yelp ratings.  I am not surprised that of 17 of 33 reviews on Yelp are ONE STAR, and 3 are TWO STAR.  That is not very good. The doctors office is divided into two reception areas.  The area I normally visit (Dr. Ihsan Hakimeh and staff) are very nice and I have never complained or had a problem with them. That is NOT the case for the other area's staff, which I had the misfortune to interact with on this visit.  It amazes me the difference in professionalism between the two areas. Optum management needs to take a serious look at their staff hiring policies and training procedures if they intend to improve customer satisfaction ratings. My observation is that the fundamental cause for this entire episode is the unreasonable mask policies which are still being implemented at Optum even though the CDC and State of California have lifted mask mandates for vaccinated people.  I want to make it clear that I am not just a mask troublemaker.  I have been to Optum this year on my Doctor's side at least 3 times and have worn my mask as requested WHEN I DO NOT HAVE A BREATHING PROBLEM. My final message to Optum Management is that 'Flexibility in responding to patient needs' is severely lacking at this Optum facility

My first interaction was with Shant Tomassian and it went well, he ordered the bloodwork i was interested in running for the wellness concerns that I had. Never received a follow up call or contact on my blood results to guide me through what the results meant. I called the office and asked what the next steps were, they told me if I didn't hear anything then there's nothing to be done. But that doesn't explain the concerns that I'm having with my health and wellness. They scheduled me an appointment with Bianca, who is supposed to be specializing in women's health, but a day before the appointment they called me to reschedule and push it back a week. Her appointment times are terrible. She's only there on certain days of the week, there's no early morning or after work appointments. I specifically told them from the original booking that I would have to use my lunch break for the appointment and would have less than an hour to be there. The Office assured me that I will be seen when I arrive. When they called to reschedule my appointment, I reiterated all of that. I arrived for my 1130 appointment right at 11:30. At 12:05 I still hadn't been called back and checked with the front desk how much longer it would be. From what I could overhear it sounded like there were 3 to 4 more appointments in front of me. Which meant I would've been there well over an hour before I would've been seen. They asked if I wanted to reschedule. I told him to refund my copayment. Thankfully, they did. My initial experience did not outweigh the rest. Don't overbook if you can't see your patience in a timely manner. The least you could do is let them know what they expected weight is when they arrive for their appointment. I've now lost my entire lunch break, was late to getting back to work and have to find a new doctor all in one. If they don't care about your time, they don't care about you.

Mehta, responds promptly and carefully to prescription requests and medication orders submitted to my pharmacy, CVS. Dr. Mehta has consistently provided exceptional medical care and support--not only by ensuring that my medications are properly managed and by recommending procedures, treatments, and diagnostic tests as my health condition warrants, but also by taking the time to explain, in layman's terms, the nature of my medical conditions and the often difficult-to-understand results of blood tests and other diagnostic procedures. In addition, he has furnished the necessary clinical notes and documentation to durable medical equipment suppliers, enabling the timely processing and insurance authorization of medically necessary equipment. Equally deserving of recognition are Alyssa and Cheryl, whose dedication, professionalism, and compassion have been invaluable. They consistently go above and beyond in coordinating with pharmacies, medical equipment suppliers, insurance providers, and other healthcare entities to help ensure that my healthcare needs are addressed efficiently and without unnecessary delay. They also keep me informed regarding the status of my various requests, providing timely updates and diligent follow-through that greatly contribute to the continuity and effectiveness of my care. ***Complete money scam.***…read more Lets start off with my experience working in a physicians office, cardiology specifically, where it's even costlier to seek medical advice. Never have I held a patient responsible for a change in our contracted medical plans when they have been a serviced client in the past under that same plan and the office failed to notify them or charged them a copay in honor of their believed accepted insurance. We always waived their visit expense. We did not deceitfully take the money of their "copay" and later bill them the full amount because we didn't accept their insurance anymore. That would be a disgusting and dishonorable practice to let someone believe they had coverage (by accepting a copay and/or not telling them we no longer accept their plan) and then giving them a call back and insisting they were responsible for the whole bill. I'm sure a majority of clients would seek medical advice elsewhere where they had insurance coverage. You're insurance information is visible on your patient profile and that is how they know how much to ask you for a copay. The staff should immediately advise you before you see the doctor of the change, or even after the visit when once again they see your insurance. I had this happen before at another doctor's office (gynocologist) in the past where they accepted my copay and later dismissed my bill because they no longer had a contract with my insurance and they mistakenly didn't tell me of this. They had an understanding that the staff should have notified me when I came in for my visit and not have charged me a copay if they didn't accept my insurance. That was a proper way of handling the situation and keeping their practice's name in good standing which to this day I have a respect for. Not here. I would not have visited this practice if I knew I had to pay for my visiting full when I could have just paid a copay amount (an almost $200 difference) at another doctor's office. I had lost my insurance just after my visit because I lost my job, I couldn't afford this bill and although they gave me a discount on my visit, this shouldn't have ever happened to begin with because I wouldn't have seeked medical advice here if I knew my insurance plan was no longer accepted. I wouldn't have been able to afford a full bill then, and definitely not now. I have never been so disappointed in a medical group. I went to this office since I moved to this city, they had wonderful doctors that helped me through a bad ailment for that went on for months. To have that same group turn on me in another time of hardship, that was a disappointing surprise. A practice should take responsibility for their mistake and not point the finger at their client. Educate your staff better, keep your patients notified and put them first.
