My family and I don't live close anymore but I still attend service when I'm not serving on my church and I'm in the area Returning to Maria Goretti after several years was a blessed experience. I came to ask for a special person's name to be added to the prayer list and to mass. A former co-worker that I haven't seen in over 19 years saw me and approached me. It was great to see her again after so long The community at this church is welcoming, kind and caring, I have never felt like this on any other church They have changed the interior of the church, still a small church community and they will notice when someone is new. This school will not do anything if your child is being bully or abuse by other students they will not do anything. I am so disappointed at this school my kid is traumatized for life he doesn't want to attend school anymore of everything this school did to him. My kid is taking physiology at this moment and, I will open a case of all the trauma my kid has at this moment. Principal is the worst my kid was bullied by the own teacher and the principal normalized this behavior until I have to speak with the priest and report all this behavior. The school itself is nasty they don't clean the outside bathroom and hardly clean the inside bathroom, if you are in the upper grades of 6th, 7th and 8th, you are forced to use the outside bathroom which is nasty as hell, it has a bunch of bugs like cockroaches and spiders. Staff is okay, they are nice. Food here is a 50/50, pizza on Thursdays (The pizza made my stomach hurt for a few days and many others stomach) the reset of food also smells like human poop ngl. Truthfully, he is the only one i connect with. I like Father Sam's homilies, but for me it's overall Father John. The way he puts things into prospective with life situations and bible verse, I love it. If only all of them do homilies like him, I will be in cloud 9 all the time. Sometimes I tune in to EWTN when i can't go to in person church and St. Raymond. And EWTN also gives good homilies. I miss the choir............the original choir with Jeannette but I know it will never go back to before. I guess i have to move on to not reminiscing of the past but i can't help it when i am at church. I highly recommend St. Raymond to attend Sunday mass in Downey.

I went hunting for a new school closer to home, and by chance was recommended to Good Shepherd. The difference is beyond words. There is emphasis on building character, honesty, tolerance, Christian values, and self discipline The classes are small and my child's test scores are always a grade above her current grade. I know a lot of kids that attend Union and they're so happy with their school. When I went to school here there was 30 kids in the whole school . All Seventh-day Adventist. So nice to get so much attention from your teachers . Much different vibe than public schools where there was 30 kids in a class . I loved pray together before lunch. It's important to have a grateful heart and to give thanks . Every once in a while they would make haystacks which is a very Seventh-day Adventist meal . Its like a taco salad just exchange the meat with Soy . Yummy! With only 30 kids in the whole playground Needless to say I was in charge. I recall picking what all of us we're gonna play at recess. A classmate of mine always reminds me about it. Now we're all grown and his kids have attended the school as well. That classmate grew up to be a pastor . So many things your kids are gonna learn in a public school . Subjects that don't align with your faith . You just want to protect your kids from things that they don't need to see , for as long as you can . I get it . I love that they didn't take God out of this school. He's just where he needs to be.
